Time for another thread hopefully encompassing everything for my personal samurai project. There’s a 30min a day ‘challenge’ on Facebook at the moment and it’s a good impetus to get little batches of figures done.
First off are three Murakami samurai. Gone a bit of a ragtag look for these so the ones without sashimono can double as Wako.

Typical, the pictures are different even though I only turned the figures round ::)
-
Wonderously painted! You have an eye for detail. I love how you painted the weapon shaft for the dude on the left in the first picture.
-
Nice figures. This should be a good thread.
-
Very nice 8)

Really liking the head swaps, very effective, might borrow the idea

Really like the effect you have on the armour :-* :-* :-*
-
Thank you gents :)
You’re making painting Samurai look easy 8)
It’s only because I’ve been painting them for years.
-
Yes, I agree with Colin, very nice effect on the armour. I imagine it's very easy to overdo it.
-
Fantastic stuff!!!
-
Belated thanks :)
Carrying on with the 'challenge' into 2019 and I got some Shogunate troops done for the Boshin War. Bac Ninh figures for the win :D

Thanks chaps :)
-
Bingo, bango, bongo! ;D
-
Well done mate!
-
It's been a while since I even looked at my figures and doing the rural temple has gotten me interested again.
I went through my figure boxes and found (I'd forgotten) that most of them were in the process of being re-based from squares to pennies...
Below are the photos of what needs to be done. There are quite a few figures that have been based but need a touch up and a new coat of varnish but I'll do those later once these are done.
I'm going to try a little bit in the morning and a little bit a night and see how we go. The first ones were finished last night as they didn't need much doing at all.

I've got some cavalry as well but they'll probably be the last to get sorted.
-
Nice!
-
I like a bit of titivation 8)
-
Nice work :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks gents :)
Another eight down, a couple of hundred to go ::) lol
The advantage with these ones is that the sand was already on. Most of the rest, I’m not so lucky.

Got enough superglue? :D
-
Cheers fellas :)
Got enough superglue? :D
Wall filler and wood glue. Ner Ner Ner ;D
-
Nice work, as always!
Do you paint the edges of the pennies? If so, is varnish needed to protect the paint?
I look forward to seeing your cavalry basing - are you going to use 40mm diameter Soviet 5 ruble coins? lol
-
Just a few more done. This is pretty much it for the easy ones now, have to spend a bit more time on the rest.

I do and yes although they need touching up every now and then. Not a massive problem though.
Just normal 25mm x 50mm ovals I’m afraid :)
-
Looking good Jim
-
I always think ashigaru are visually just as much of the appeal of a Japanese army as the samurai are (quite apart from being more important in army composition). Like those.
-
Lovely looking additions Jim 8)
-

Well the easy ones look quite nice. The others...
-
Thanks :)
-
Do you need some peasants or archers to go with those? I think I might have some.
Splendid as always. Makes me want to get some of the old chubby Dixon miniatures ones for old school fantasy uses. :D :D ;D
-
A few samurai done now, armed with nagai-yari and a couple of messengers with horo.
Got some archers on the go now.

Yeah, can do. Drop me a message.
-
Archers are done but there's still a way to go before a clan group photo.

Great thread! So much to compliment, hard to decide which I like most.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Should have a few more done tonight as long as the varnish dries.
-
Very nice. Your Sammies always tempt me to assemble a small FFOL sized force.

When this clan is done (another 20 or so figures) then I'll do a little set up.

Got another large unit on the go but haven't decided as to which clan to do them as. The mon is already done but there were several clans that used it and I can't remember which one it was when I started them all those years ago lol
-
Lovely brushwork there James.
-
Top job on those minis James 8)
-
Thanks chaps :)
I found another 20 odd archers that need some work on them. And I thought I was done ::) lol
-
Nice one! Where do you store the thousands of these great miniatures you paint?.......wait......is that what the wizards tower was for?.....ahhhhhh, it all makes sense now! ;) lol
-
Shush you lol
I told a bit of a fib, I had another 20 or so figures that needed some work doing to them and here they are with the full clan shot.

Love your Miyoshi clan warband!! :o

Forget about some casualty markers I had. I think I can use them for shock in FFoL Bigger Battles.

Most excellent titivation James 8)

Lovely :-* :-* :-*
-
Cheers fellas :)
-
It's always fun to see what you're up to. I recently used your Devon? Boards as guide lines for some cliffs I made for Sails of Glory, so thanks for that.
Just a thought on the casualty markers, insdead of dice I made some counters using penies as bases, and glued brown lentils in the the basing material., 1 through to 6 lentils, they blend in much better than dice and cost - well - pennies ;)
-
Thanks and I’m glad the Devon cliffs were inspirational :)
I have though about using stones etc to represent the number but I actually quite like the look of the dice. The dice are loose as well and will be used for Starfighter groups in their bases.
-
Nice work, sir.
-
Megasexytastic ;D
-
Lovely job on those casualty markers
:)
-
Very nice casualty markers.
According to secret information you dont dice 6´s... ;) ;D
-
Many thanks chaps :)
According to secret information you dont dice 6´s... ;) ;D
Ain’t no secret mate, I’m f****** rubbish at dice rolling lol
-
lol lol lol lol lol
Join the club. ;) :D
Usually 1 and 2 are my best.
-
Me too! :D
Titivated another clan, Satomi this time although there were several clans using this particular mon. They were started quite a while ago hence the bright blue armour. If I were to do them again I would make them a bit ‘greyer’ and darker. For some reason I never painted the actual drummer ::)
I’ll need to paint some fresh missile troops and a few more samurai for it to be complete.

What does the lettering say? :)
The single, badly drawn one is the kanji for sake and the double one is Sanada (the ‘donor’).

Thanks chaps :)
The single, badly drawn one is the kanji for sake and the double one is Sanada (the ‘donor’).
So it’s the Japanese for “can you spare a quid for a cuppa”? ;)

Wow! Stunning as always!

Nice :)

Thanks chaps :)
So it’s the Japanese for “can you spare a quid for a cuppa”? ;)
lol Not quite :)
-
The blue looks good, but what is it meant to be?
-
Got a samurai painting commission on the go and it has been a good opportunity to titivate some more of my own troops.
This time it's the Murakami clan. 'Pirates' of the inland sea. I've got a few bune for them and almost started and island fortress for them as well but that won't happen until I gain a bit more space lol
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/49/2619-041120185602-491101864.jpeg)
-
Cool-o! :-* :-*
Like the way you painted the big flag.
-
Every one loves pirates. lol
-
Looking good, as usual!
-
Thanks chaps :)

Last of the Murakami have been titivated :)

Are they for 15mm? What size of base are those infantry mounted on?
15mm figures and 25mm square bases.

Just varying degrees of brown up through tan getting softer with the drybrushing as the colour gets lighter.
-
Thank you.
Robert

Long overdue an update here but I’ve finally gotten round to painting some Honda to go against my Sanada. I’ll also be doing some Dutch and Shimazu at some point in the near future (I hope lol).

Excellent work 👍

Excellent, only just caught up on this, amazing thread. :-*

I'm not normally a fan of buildings on bases because they stand out against the table base, but yours are pretty exeptional, vignettes in their own right.
Just lovely. :-* :-*

Ncely done there Mr Bibbly
