Hey Guys
We skipped last year, but if anyone is interested in a Secret Santa Gift Exchange, I would be willing to organize it again.
Here is how it works
Basically, its one of the only ways to ENSURE you get some cool Lead (possibly plastic) for Christmas!
Here is how it would work...
Anyone who wants to sign up, just says "I am in" on this thread, then PMs me their info* later. Once the Registration period is over... say end of November, I'll send everyone who is playing ONE address to send a Secret Santa Gift to. Each person is responsible for sending a gift of nominal value (determined by the group) to the individual he has an address for.... Everybody reports here in the secret Santa thread when there gift arrives, and what it was, and after everyone gets theirs, we can "reveal" who we were the secret Santa too.
The points to stress are
1) The person receiving the gift doesn't know who the giver is (until revealed after date specified by group)
2) You only buy ONE gift for ONE recipient (and you only GET ONE gift from ONE sender)
3) Gifts should have a value that is per-determined buy the group... that is, if we say $20 or so. Your gift can be worth more if you want, but the minimum value is just to make it equitable for all players. You don't even have to buy anything... You can grab a few figures (painted unpainted) throw em in a box and mail em off... done. It can be anything Mini/LAF related Paints, Brushes, Games, Rules, Dice, Figures, etc etc etc....
4) Gifts must go out by a certain date December 7, to ensure they arrive before Christmas. (hard to enforce, but try to meet the sending deadline.)
It usually takes about 10-12 to make it worthwhile, and I will try to keep US Folks Together and Euro folks together so there is no crazy transatlantic shipping charges to worry about.
If you are skeptical, take a look at the
2015 Secret Santa - Christmas Gift Exchange or, "How to have a Mini Christmas!" (Read 13450 times) http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=84096.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=84096.0)

Remember, this is an international forum... the more folks we have that participate means the chances are better that you get somebody close(ish) to you. We can keep registration open till the 26th or so..
If you are interested, just reply with "I'm in!" or "I've done it before, and I'll do it again!"

We have 13.... now we need a Burglar
Lets wait a few more days before we close... Sunday I will start the process.
If you are in, please PM Me with your
1 - FORUM NAME + REAL NAME
2- Delivery address As would be written on a package (Proper Spelling and Punctuation)
Hobby interest (Sci-Fi /Fantasy/ WW2 etc.) Not a wish list, just some ideas for your Santa
I can't stress enough about the mailing address. Every country seems to do it a little differently. What makes sense to you in Sri Lanka might be strange looking to someone in the UK.
So put each thing on the line as it should go... and if you spell "street" with a lower case, then make sure you show that....
The sooner I get all the info, the sooner we can kick it off!

-
I've replied twice, let me know if they have not got through!
-
Timescale on this is too short now to make a purchase for reposting out, at least for me.
I cannot be sure stuff I order now will arrive here in time for Christmas, let alone arrive early enough to repack, repost and guarantee arrival elsewhere before the 25th. I am left hoping that whoever I have to send to has a scope of options/interests that coincide with my (admittedly excessive) lead mountain.
-
Hey Guys...
Sorry for the delay... I fried my computer (motherboard) over the weekend, and just got everything back up and running.
I will send out the Santa in the next few minutes.
For the record... you don't "Have" to buy something brand new. If you got a pile of lead... you can go through that too and send some "vintage" Pieces. nobody said it has to be new stuff.
Cheers
-
Santa Address (and in some cases, a message) went out to all....
Check your inboxes and commence the Santa-ing!
Remember... this is supposed to be fun, don't stress about it. Just get it in the mail as soon as you can... Mail can be crazy this time of year, so save your tracking numbers (if you get em)
And again, you don't have to buy brand new items..... If you'd rather look through that pile of lead you already have, search your bookshelf or your game closet, that is cool too!
Cheers
-
We keep the $20?
-
We keep the $20?
I have no problem with that.
-
My gift went to the post office today.
Whether it gets to its destination before the end of the year (or in one piece...) is anyone's guess.
-
Package posted today
-
Yeah.... the 20 bucks/20 Euros thing was just to keep it with a "minimum"...
Now, if you want to send somebody MORE than that... its up to you.
And again, it didn't have to be new stuff... you could go through your collection and pics something out.
The first year, I sent a off a Ral Partha Lord of the Rings Balrog circa 1988 that I knew I was never going to get around building/painting.
Cheers!
-
Package sent 30 minutes ago...ish :)
-
Mine is on it's way as well. :)
-
Mine went in the post today.

Stars willing my package should reach its destination on time.

Mine went in the post today, hopefully it will be in time. :)

It sounds like stuff is starting to arrive!

Seems like I've got a festive-looking package here too. :)

Me too.
And my parcel was sent a few days ago.
:)
-
Mine has arrived :)
-
There was a package waiting for me when I came home today. Thanks Santa!!!
-
Well then, to my Secret Santa - thanks a dozen! Quite a delightful variety box t'was! :-*
I do particularly like the dice bag which is doubly welcome as I had none of my own.
And now to the person I was Secret Santa to, I fear that in addition to all the other trouble I had with it the package didn't even arrive on time. :?
This leaves me with but one recourse...

Can you show us what you got? :D
-
I'll show mine.
Santa sent me a box of new Pulp figures - including a bevy of female characters (looks like a League of Ladies is in the future!).

Thanks Santa!
say...is that a tentacle...? *

That is an awesome gift!
Every year, Santa seems to play with a couple of the gifts so they don't get delivered on time... (that is code for: Some of these gifts are crossing borders or continents... )
If you don't get something by Friday, PM me and I will check with your Santa to see if there is a tracking number.
Until then, post what you got!
-
Thanks Santa!! I must have been a good boy this year to receive such an awesome gift!! Even the packaging, removal and build instructions are a work of art. This is the second year I have participated and I'm blown away by the generosity and skill of the secret Santas. Looking forward to next year!! Merry Xmas One and All.
-
Thank you secret santa. Perry N American farmhouse and some 28mm figures that will be useful when I get to my AWI skirmish project.

Can you show us what you got? :D
As per request... :D

From top left to right:
Candy!
Dice bag (self-made!) (+ cool-looking dice!)
Reaper sci-fi lady
Stormcast (I think, these guys are big. :o)
The white chaps in plastic bags are Reaper orcs (coincidentally I was actually planning to get some orcs for Sellswords and Spellslingers but it seems like I'm set now :) )
The big guy beside the dice is a Mantic 1st Generation Plague Mutant (a lot bigger than I thought from Mantic's pictures, and also something I'd been planning to get - coincidence?)
Under the bag, left to right:
2 Alkemy Khaliman Republic minis
Orc pin!
Space Marine (assuming he's a Primaris one and he shall become a big brother to my normal marines)
-
A huge 'Thank You!' to my Secret Santa, who sent me some Celts and Egyptian stuff for OGAM, a quirky little sci-fi fella, and best of all, some handmade posters for my Mordheim-style set-up (which I will post pics of when I add them later this week: Very amusing and equally thoughtful!).
Thank you, Santa!
And another huge 'Thank You!; to Revfan for organising the whole thing. Again!
Cheers!
:D
-
My Pleasure guys!
Glad you are enjoying it!
-
Thanks Santa. Lovely collection of vintage Mithril and OOP LOTR metal characters to add to my collection - and as my Secret Santa pointed out one of the Hobbits could also represent Tyrion - I’m thinking the Pippin mini in Gondor armour would be best :)
Thanks Revfan for another fun round :)
-
It's incredible how spoiled I am by santa; I got lots of stuff!
Some Perry agincourt sprues, a box of GW skeletons and some other unsead sprue (I think it may be nightvault) and a few DnD sprues.
Many thanks Santa!! ( if the shipping price sticker on the package was correct, I think I should compensate you)
-
Did anyone not get a gift yet?
-
Did anyone not get a gift yet?
Unfortunately I did not got my pack yet, though I'm not surprised. Our postal service is err... subpar, especially during the holidays. :-I
-
Got mine, pre-christmas! Filled with all sorts of cool miniatures and bits.
-
Hope everybody's gifts have arrived by now?
-
It seems the one intended for me is lost in transit... or comes with snail mail :)
-
Thanks Revfan for organising this. The event seems to have been a success again. It would have been nice to see more pics of peoples goodies, but I'm sure we can imagine the best gaming presents ever :D
Please can we do it again next year? Maybe with a bit more notice as it was a real scramble trying to find a suitable gift in the short time frame available.
Thanks!!
-
I think everybody has received a gift... except for McMordain.
I don't know if it was lost in the mail or not at this point, I haven't been able to get the tracking number.....
-

What he said, it was fun and probably the only present I received this year that was a complete surprise.
-
I believe all gifts have arrived... we should get confirmation later.
If you want to "reveal" yourselves (if you haven't already) - Please so!
If you can take a quick pick of your gift and post it, that would be cool.
And...
You are correct, I waited way too long (honestly, I just forgot all about it)... next year, we will start eary November... Gifts go out 15 November or so.
CHEERS!
-
It took a while but my gift waited for me at home today. :)
Thanks for the book, I was eyeing this for a long time now.
I was FionaWhite's Secret Santa. I'm really happy I managed to send you things that you wanted, because 28mm sci-fi & fantasy was a little vague as interest. lol
Also thank you, Revfan, to organising this, and count me in next time as well. It's always fun. :D
-
Eventhough I was not your Santa I'm glad your gift turned up! I agree it is always fun, so I'm pretty sure I'll participate again next time!
-
Well I was Santa for Chris Abbey, hope it got there and was some use. He was also my Santa, company postage markings gave it away lol , many thanks. Definitely in for next year.
-
It is kind of fun!
I started doing it because it was the only way I could insure I'd get some minis for Christmas (uhhmm... that I didn't pay for!)
ANOTHER IDEA That I'd like some feed back on
Many moons ago, I smoked cigars and belonged to a Cigar Forum.
One of the cool things we did there was a PUT-ONE-TAKE-ONE box.
Basically, it worked like this. The Box Starter (Player 1) would fill a modest box with cigars of all types and values.... So there would be $2 cigars $5 Cigars, $35 Cubans etc.... maybe 20 Cigars or so.
Player 1 takes a photo of the contents/makes a list and posts it. He then mails the box to player two. Player two gets the box and can take anything out of the box he wants, but has to put back something at least of equal value to what he takes. He then posts his "Puts and takes" in the Forum thread, and mails the box to the next player on the list (in this case, Player #3). Player #3 repeats the process, sending the box on. If there are 10 players, the last player, #10, then sends the box back to the Original Box Starter, Player 1 where the game ends. With Cigars, it gives you a chance to try stuff that you normally wouldn't or turn other folks on to some of your favorites.
There is a "Spirit of the Game", so, it isn't fair to pull one $20 item and replace it with 20, $1 items, and its best to swap just a couple of items.... because always having some show stopper big things always keeps the interest going.
We could adopt this for Minis here and It would probably be pretty cool. At least, I am willing to take a chance and start a box if we could get about 10 folks
Anyone interested? You guys are the most adventurous as you are already at an unusual thread....
What are you thoughts?
-
Hi Jabba, glad your stuff arrived OK, and many thanks for mine.
Skaven standard bearer is going to serve in my Burrows and Badgers warband, and lovely painted character will be used as a D&D character. I need to take a photo but was away staying for relatives over Christmas and then on holiday in Malta from 1st - 14th January, so just getting caught up now.
-
PUT-ONE-TAKE-ONE box.
Revfan, I like the idea but with the ever increasing cost of international shipping this may work better confined either within the borders of one country or countries that have sympathetic postal rates
.
-
Also there is already such a thing going. With varying succes. Some boxes got lost i transit this year.
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=89892.720
I missed the Santa bit this year but would definitely be interested in joining next Christmas.
-
Yeah, was going to say . . . we have a box of many things that gets sent around. It has been running for several years on the trot (at least 3-4 I think).
The USA and Canada have managed to do their own from time to time but with more mixed results I believe.
-
I was FionaWhite's Secret Santa. I'm really happy I managed to send you things that you wanted, because 28mm sci-fi & fantasy was a little vague as interest. lol
Heh, sorry about that. First time so I had no idea as to how specific one should be and decided to err on the side of caution. :D
But as I mentioned, everything was most welcome so thank you!
And thanks to Revfan as well, for organizing this.
I was LordOdo's secret santa (and boy did I run into unfortunate circumstances trying to get your package out, though 'tis a tale for another day), so hopefully you can find something useful in there! :)
