Looks very good.I have one Russian movie,"Viking" which was very good.Of course I had to read the sub-titles but that was ok. You  guys  seem to be making better historical movies than us.Over here they are too busy making sure the movie is PC than being a good movie.I hope Tobol makes it over here.

What we have learned to shoot well is so teasers)))

For my taste, there are not very many good historical films (I mean the plot, the play of actors, the director). Although the battle scenes often look quite decent. But, again, I am often annoyed by the sacrifice of historicity in favor of entertainment. Many knowledge - many sorrows)))

But they can give an idea of some historical events, albeit superficial. Can tell the script for the game.

Many of these films are available to watch online for free or for very little money, but, unfortunately, they are very rarely translated into English. Sometimes enthusiasts create subtitles themselves, but this does not happen very often. I try to post links to such films here when I discover them on the web.

I watched this. I actually purchased this. It was pretty decent, better than the shit we get anymore .The Dzungars were the best part of the movie. I can't think of the title they called it. I'll have to look when I get home tonight.

For a better understanding of who the Jungars are:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzungar_Khanate

Once it was a formidable force in Central Asia, waging active wars with China, Central Asian states and tribes, sometimes they had border clashes with the Russians. The Dzungars knew how to make and use firearms, and were a serious opponent. The Dzungars were almost completely destroyed by China, the survivors merged with closely related Kalmyk tribes in the territories of present-day Kazakhstan and Russia.

The Asiatic nomad tribes really had a knack for war. Only gunpower and organization allowed the westerners to prevail over them. Plus they were very fragmented. If they joined together like the did under the Mongols they were unstoppable.

You can adjust the YouTube settings for auto-close-captioning (does not work great but helps), and set for auto-translate (also does not work well for Russian>English).  The  compounded post-modern poetry results will give a fair number of clues as to what they might be saying.

I saw this awhile back with subtitles.  I agree with Culprum, that it is a good action movie.  I liked the Peter the Great portrayal.

Thanks Cuprum. It's a good movie and I found I could follow it well enough with the subtitles on.

Watched it this afternoon.  The voice dub actors didn't help, but the movie certainly wasn't half good.

The film is, frankly, of average quality, although there are some good scenes in it. It must be borne in mind that there is a much more detailed television version - a seven-episode TV series. Everything looks much deeper and clearer there. The film attracts something else - the unusualness of the topic, which has not been touched upon by anyone before.

An article by one of the leading Russian scientists studying the topic of the military affairs of the Asian peoples – Leonid Bobrov, dedicated to the military affairs of the Dzungar Khanate (automatic translation):

"Dzungar Khanate – the last nomadic empire"

Thanks for posting the links. Unfortunately, I saw it without dubbing or English subtitles. Never mind.

I was intrigued and sped through the non-action scenes to get to the good stuff. It showed the disparity in weapons and tactics very well. My 10p bet said the other side would win but politics wouldn't allow that, haha.

Cheers.

In fact, the Russians, although they were able to repel the assault that is depicted in the film, left this fortress after a while and retreated. The cause was an epidemic that killed almost two thousand people.

I liked the movie as it gave me lot of ideas for some unusal games.  I hope that there will be more recommendations coming along.  Thank you.
