Title: Ancient 1:1200 Galley size?
Post by: marko.oja on June 05, 2009, 07:17:55 AM
Hi,

would anyone happen to have any Rod Langton ancient galleys so they could tell me how big those are? We've been talking about giving ancient naval gaming a go, and as I'm pretty sure I found someone to buy one of my 40K armies I thought I could spend half of that on tiny little ships.

A picture of a trireme (or any other ship) next to a coin of recognizable size (€ or £) would be extra useful.

Cheers,
Marko

I don't have any Rod langton, but do have the Navwar ones and they work out at about an inch long.

I'll see if I can get a photo done of the Navwar ones if you want.

Thanks,

just over an inch is what I came up with using a calculator too. Don't worry about the photos, I have a bunch of Navwar 6mm WW2, and qualitywise I'm hoping the Langton stuff is - to put it bluntly - less bad. Navwar is cheap and looks ok painted up, but its just not that pretty to look at...

I have six Langton quinqremes and a frumentarium (sp?) and they are in the 3-4 cm range. They are also very lovely models. I do not think you will be disappointed!

Well,

I'll see the rest of my gaming group in a week, so I guess that the question is just how many of these we will order then. I think this is best decided over several pints of refreshments :)

I think the ships are possibly better than the 6mm WWII
