Title: 2e REC AMX-13 suez markings?
Post by: seamoose on January 10, 2019, 06:43:03 AM
Can anyone help me out? I'm trying to find color scheme and markings for AMXs in the Suez and most of my google searches turn up really good examples for IDF and export AMXs but not much on the ones actually used by the French.

http://foreignlegion.info/units/2nd-foreign-cavalry-regiment/ Here's a starter for you. There are others on the site.

Also plenty of French AMX13 here http://www.chars-francais.net/2015/index.php/liste-chronologique/de-1945-a-1990?task=view&id=699 you might have to sort through them to find any specific to 2REC. However in general they look to be mono-colour, either green or sand, without much evidence of camouflage patterns, and markings largely confined to the matricule (registration number)

of a preserved specimen has the 2eREC badge.

Not particularly exciting then but easy enough to paint. Thank you for the links.

Military Modelcraft International had an article on the AMX-13 a few months ago. That included images of the vehicle in the field, and some colour profile images. I'll need to source the issue when I get home to till you which though.

Edit: April 2018's issue specifically.

Bison decals do a 1/35 sheet for Suez 1956 that includes an AMX-13. Judging by the sheet’s depictions of the M-47 and the Centurion and their matches to contemporary photos, it’s probably accurate. Like the others the AMX is in sand with the recognition stripe around the turret. It doesn’t look likecthey painted the typical ‘H’ air recognition sign on the turret roof.
