Title: Home Guard (WIP's ,from Laffer's Photographs.) First sets. 28/01.
Post by: tin shed gamer on January 18, 2019, 12:21:19 PM
A while ago I asked if anyone was intrested in having a likeness of themselves or of a family member added to the 20th century Follies range.(since its primarily base on real people rather than generic cannon fodder)
Today I've managed to find some time to post a few sculpts ,of some the photos people sent me.(Not all ;) )

Mark.

The fact the figures are getting their own category hopefully means that the 'Home Front' range will have a good number of figures and not just Home Guard.

Cheers chaps,
I'm genuinely glad you like them.

Marianas,
I'm not going to list who's who. Simply because thats not what I promised. I know a couple of people have mentioned which figures are of family members. Which is absolutely fine. It's also the point of the exercise.
Ewan.
Initially there's five sets of figures ( not all of the additional sets are finished or indeed will be in time for York on 3rd Feb.
I'm almost out of people to sculpt .( only two not sculpted.) So I'll probably return to period photographs and pick people / faces from them to continue with as there's still quite a few things I wish to explore that will fall under the new heading or the Follies.
Mark.

Interesting. Slightly OTT, a friend who is a professional artist and has won competitions to paint some government ceremonies in historic buildings/places, working on official photos or footage, has found that the real images can be sparse for the number of people present, so he solved this by adding people in that he knows despite them not being at the event. Now, when he has an opening display of his art of these official events, it has become a fun thing to "spot" the interloper.

Cheers chaps,
I'm genuinely glad you like them.

Very nice, but I do wish 1st Corps would get on with extending the 'proper' WW2 ranges  :D

Like a tripod mounted MG42 and crew, etc..

(Incidentally, it's not uncommon. My late father appears in a very impressive 'Tam o' Shanter' mural by a well known artist.)

If there's a choice (and there probably isn't) hold the "generic German MG42 on tripod" for just a little while longer to finish these fantastic and unique figure sets!! Congrats.

The Follies,WW1,and Home Front.
Are fully independent of the release / design rota of 1st Corps. So there's no point Bugging Simon or Mick. These are run to fit in with my commission rota.(As I'm free lance.)

I will be adding quite a lot to the pile though and well before Partizan. ;)

If your at York on the 3rd . I'll be happy to hear your ideas there.( probably more so once the bar's open :D )

I didn't know there's such a thing  lol
(I'm at York on Sunday so no doubt I'll be adding to the lead pile.)

Here's the first sets to be handed over at York.
A crew for the civillian Austin7.
An anti aircraft ring mount and gunner(the one in the picture is on a Rommfel from the WW1 range to go with my Follies figures. I was supposed to use it to gauge the Home guard gunner . But I got sidetracked.)It has twin Aircraft Lewis guns. Not the Vickers K's in the picture.
Plus twenty infantry figures. To get the ball rolling.
I'm officially out of mug shots for the next wave.
So ..... ;)

Now upto seven new recruits for the next wave. Since I'm all packed and ready for York. With elephant on its way across the pond and the armour picked up.
Im at a loose end so I've started a Cavalry Carrier. For my own table. ( mainly because I dropped the armour on a mk2 universal which sent if flying across the workshop.  ::) )

Andy,
As far as I know. They'll be on release at Hammerhead on the 2nd of March. You'd have to check with Simon and Mick to see if they'll be on the website before the show.

Picked them up yesterday at Hammerhead....

Initial impressions are that they are even nicer than the pictures. Casting is lovely, they're a smidge bigger than Mark's previous sculpts, I think, and it really suits them - it really is only a smidge and they'll fit fine with Artizan/Crusader et cetera.

There are some delightful little details like the one holding a crafty fag and the aforementioned slippers.

I'm away next week but couldn't resist getting started on them last night....

I bought them too, plus both versions of the Austin 7 and both motocycle combis, and a Universal carrier...in fact all the money I made on the Bring and Buy went to 1st Corps! They are nice figures and full of character.

How do they look next to Warlord? Not thinking of mixing and matching within units but they may work alongside each other!

Glad you like them.
The frist four packs may be a bit alarming for some as mentioned the majority are taller than 28mm foot to eye. Only one in four is.
This isn't representative of the entire range. Rather the fact that the Laffer's 'volunteers' are lanky compared to the average height of 1930-40.(roughly 5'8").Infact one Laffer's grandfather was 6'10" !
The figures in the initial release have all the kit scaled for 28mm foot to eye . So they look tall rather than oversized. This is easiest to see in the firing pack as the taller figures make the weapons look smaller and their kit isn't so conjested .
The majority of the tall figures are in these pack as they're the ones least likely to be mixed with other's
Guard duty etc.
The more active poses (smg's, advancing, etc) are all 28mm with the odd taller figure mixed in.
This range will continue to have real scaling rather than. Just be 28mm unit builders. Because people aren't one height. This varriation helps represent the odd ball mismatched nature of the home guard.
Plus there's a few un expected packs to follow  ;)
