Are there pictures of the sprues already?

I can see a lot of potential with this box...would love to see some sprue / example build pics.

Not that I have found.

I saw it first on Wargames Terrain.
http://wargameterrain.blogspot.com/2019/01/breaking-northstar-miniatures-new-hard.html (http://wargameterrain.blogspot.com/2019/01/breaking-northstar-miniatures-new-hard.html)
Then on https://www.beastsofwar.com/news/plastic-wizard-kit-frostgrave-north-star/ (https://www.beastsofwar.com/news/plastic-wizard-kit-frostgrave-north-star/)

The question is, what would be in the box? Twenty wizard figures? I would suspect something more like the GW wizards kit, limited number of bodies, lots of options.

Of course it could all be some clever photoshoppery.
Title: Re: Plastic Frostgrave Wizards
Post by: Lost Egg on January 23, 2019, 09:09:59 AM
No photoshoppery...it was in a NorthStar email too.

From the box art I am assuming there will be the option to build apprentices too. Usually FG boxes have 20 minis in them and say so on the box front but the Wizard one above doesn't specify a number. Perhaps a smaller sprue with only a couple of bodies on it as it would be cheaper to have multiple small sprues rather than fewer normal size sprues.

I would think that 20 wizards per box would be a bit more than what most customers are looking.

I would also assume that the box is likely to include equal amounts of wizards and apprentices.

It could be 20 to represent the Wizard Conclave to coincide with the release of the book by the same name. Or it could be a normal sprue, but instead of getting 4 sprues with 5 bodies you just get one sprue. Who knows. But I am very excited to see the sprue and get an idea of when it will come out!
Title: Re: Plastic Frostgrave Wizards
Post by: Lost Egg on January 23, 2019, 12:16:52 PM
I wonder if it will be a smaller sprue with 2 bodies plus bits and if you get maybe a couple of those in a pack.
Title: Re: Plastic Frostgrave Wizards
Post by: Coenus Scaldingus on January 23, 2019, 03:42:27 PM
I would expect comparatively fewer bodies and more bits than on the normal Frostgrave sprues.. but how many bodies and how big the pile of bits from one box will be remains to be seen, but I'm certainly looking forward to finding out!

Wonder if they'll put specific bits in for all of the Frostgrave schools of magic, or more generic wizardy parts.
And a mix of male and female? After all, there was a plastic box with female warriors recently, and the metal wizards/apprentices have always been a mixture.
Not sure if the difference between wizard and apprentice will be as pronounced, maybe have some older and younger heads. Other than that, any apprentices can just get fewer decorative bits.

Post by: Lost Egg on January 23, 2019, 03:48:47 PM
That's true... maybe the bodies are interchangable with young / old heads. Not sure about female minis...I would have expected them to make one of the figures on the box female if ladies were going to be an option; it'd be cool though.

The fun part though, if you left any Soldier or Cultist bodies unassembled, you could easily use those bodies too for an additional wizard or apprentice. I've already seen some people use them for a wizard and they look fantastic!

I was so inspired by that, that I have put a cultist Wizard together.

This one is built using the Cultist sprue for the body and head, and the arms (and boat hook/two handed weapon) from the Ghost Archipelago Sailors. The Cultists sprue also provided the accessories. The boat hook has two pieces from the knife and fetish component, the knife is attached to the figures front behind the staff. There will be a bit of Greenstuff work to secure it.

This one and the barbarian wizard use the same mail order company for their staff.

Very nice. I will need to look at the staff from the original soldiers' sprue again.

Did he cut the shafts and fletchings from the quiver to make a scroll case on the apprentice?

Any "official" hints on the original reason for this thread?
Title: Re: Plastic Frostgrave Wizards
Post by: nicknorthstar on January 26, 2019, 07:12:27 PM
Yes, that is how the scroll case was made. The staff is two axe shafts. The doobre on top of the staff is the only non-Soldier frame addition. I can't remember what Kev said that was.

Official announcement is that there isn't an official announcement yet. But between us, the plastic frame that has 4 wizard bodies and LOADS of arms, heads, accessories on is finished. We're planning to put two in a box. Hoping for a February release.

And before anyone asks, they are all males. The good news is we're planning the female wizards next. We don't believe in mixed frames. I'll be brutally honest, aesthetically we don't believe sticking a womans head on a man's body makes a female figure.

If it is a February release, will it be a Nickstarter to coincide with the Wizard's Conclave book?

I don't think so. We may just release the wizards and the book.

Excellent. Good aesthetic point.

So there will be eight bodies in the box?

Was more thinking the 4 (as it turns out) bodies could be 2 male/2 female, but that would only limit options (e.g. 4 heads each fitting those 2 bodies, rather than having 8 heads fitting 4 bodies). No complaints at all about the appearance of a second set! Very happy with North Star's plastic output and choice of subjects.

I suppose that you have already seen that but take a look at McCullough blog. There is more light on the future miniatures...

"Coming out soon after Wizard’s Conclave is the much-anticipated Plastic Wizards Box Set!!! I also got an advance sprue of these and… well, it is awesome. It’s all sculpted by Bobby Jackson and includes so many cool bits (potions, scrolls, a mouse, a spoon, an owl, just to name a few). I’ve already painted up my new plastic wizard, and I’m just waiting for permission to show him off."

That's a whole load of bits: 20 heads, 40 arms plus all the scrolls, potions etc.

Looking forward for the female version - the leftover bits from that would give a good excuse for purchasing the female soldiers kit.

What I see here is that now we can have a 2-player starter set to get new players in a convenient way. 1 sprue of Wizards, 2 sprues of male soldiers, 2 sprues of female soldiers, plus a booklet with a mini campaign and we are good to go.

I like this idea. Or 1 sprue of Wizards and four of any other sprues in any combination. You can't leave out the barbarians. That sprue is excellent!
