Title: "Don't worry, Brigadier, people will be shooting at you soon!"

As Commanding Officer of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, Brigadier Jamie Holdbridge-Stuart, was enjoying a spot of well earned leave. While his wife Doris was baking, the Brigadier took a brisk walk round his country estate accompanied by his faithful hound, Flash. The Brigadier said.

"We'll take a quick look at Two Acre field Field Flash old lad, might get a couple of rabbits for the pot, what?"

As he crested the brow of the hill the Brigadier spotted something very amiss in Two Acre field. The Brigadier peered keenly and said.

"By the cringe Flash, that's a rum looking combine harvester, never seen labourers dressed like that either, what an absolute shower!"

With a thunderous crash the tree the Brigadier was piking from splits asunder, Flash lets out a terrified howl. Both him and the Brigadier set off for the farmhouse at a dead run. The Brigadier and Flash tumble into the kitchen.

"Doris, there's an alien spacecraft in Two Acre field myself and Flash have just been fired on. Get on the blower to HQ, I want Sergeant Benton and a Platoon up here asap, better invite the Doctor to the party too."

Doris put down her rolling pin and replied....

"Yes dear."

The Brigadier strolls over to The Doctor, gives him his field glasses, then says.

“Morning Doctor, what are those blighters, you ever met them before?”
 
“Yes Brigadier, they’re Bonkers.”

“Downright bally loony if you ask me Doctor!”

“No Brigadier, Bonkers from the planet Bonk in the Zooney Constellation. They travel the Universe collecting samples of other life forms to experiment on.”

The Brigadier draws himself to his full height…

“Well that game stops right here Doctor, today… Sarn’t Benton to me!”

Despite the Brigadier’s optimistic statement a squad of Bonkers drag Mildred the milkmaid from her hiding place in the telephone box, as two of them give cover, the third heads back to the spaceship with the captive…

Sergeant Benton and the lads deploy and a bloody firefight erupts on Two Acre lane…

The two Bonkers are riddled, but U.N.I.T. takes heavy losses Sergeant Benton falls, and there’s only one Tom left standing. But he’s got a sniper rifle and gets the Bonker who’s abducting Mildred in his sights… BANG!!!

He gets Mildred right through  the melon, but considering the unspeakables the Bonkers have planned for her every orifice it could be considered a mercy killing, his next shot gets the intended! On the Bonkers left flank they advance across the field, one of them puts an end to the U.N.I.T.  sniper’s guilty conscience. As the Bonkers close in on their next victim the Brigadier and Flash leap into action! Flash jumps upon a rain barrel and goes for the Bonker’s squad leader first stunning the alien then ripping out his whistlepipe in a savage attack! The Brigadier Shoots one Bonker with his 12 bore, but is then atomised by a plasma rifle on full auto. The same rifleman then does for Flash, the U.N.I.T radio op and bazooka man… the Doctor runs for cover!

A stunning, but costly, triumph for the Bonker’s who round up two subjects for experimentation and retire to their spaceship…

It was a laugh from start to finish and could have gone either way right up to the end. The Bonkers were some of Britains Deetail daftest figures from their Stargard and Aliens range, which just came out in time to be eclipsed by toys from a little known film called Star Wars or summat!
The Brigadier and his faithful retainers are from the Britains farmyard series, but the bestest toys are Sergeant Benton's lads from U.N.I.T., they're my original mid 60s, Britains Herald 'modern' British Infantry... that's why they look so scabby! I have some later 'made in Hong Kong' figures that are going to be painted up to their former glory, for future adventures agin Daleks and Cybermen.

Having just finished a solo Western using 54mm cowboys, I’m really in the mood to appreciate this AAR. very good fun.

It sure does - I love them and I have no qualms about using them as is, the painting on some of the Britain’s is very good and has a charm of its own. That farmer with the shotgun also figured in my game - he’s the sheriff.... :)

Have to agree with all that's been said regarding the Britains figures. And those aliens are wonderfully ridiculous...   lol
