Title: 20mm 'Nam?
Post by: tuco74 on February 20, 2019, 12:15:34 PM
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere...
I'm increasingly drawn to 20mm minis and fancy a break from WW2 and ACW. Can anybody recommend comprehensive ranges for 'Nam in 20mm? Ideally those that are compatible with one another. A good source for 1/72 Hueys would be nice as well.
I'm thinking of doing this as a diorama project, at least initially.

These two should go well together:

Brilliant, thanks!

I'm loving the Elhiem personality set but disappointed that the SHQ page doesn't include photos. Why would I be tempted to buy a product I can't actually see?

The Elhiem US infantry are some of my favourites in 20mm.

There's a handful of pics on the SHQ site, but I agree that a lack of images is a bit of an issue.

Here's some from google searching:

Just remembered there are three nice packs from Underfire too:

Those SHQ minis look really nice...what a shame they haven't got photos on their own site!

For the price I may well order one or two things from each and see what I get on with the best.

If you like 1/72 figures, Italeri produces US soldiers and vietcong sets. I've got the vietcong set, made in a special plastic, wich is quite firm and glue-able. Size and style is compatible with good 20mm metal figures, and details are good.

Ideally, I'd like to do this in metal because the cost isn't prohibitive at the scale. That said, plastic VC might be useful to keep costs down. I've seen the big Italieri battle set that they do and that does look very tempting.

There is also a very small range @ Under Fire miniatures. Some rather nice civilians which could be handy:

If you go for plastic italeri, choose the "ssm" range wich is a special plastic, quite firm, wich is easier to work with than the usual soft plastic most 1/72 figures are made of :

That's useful to know, cheers (scuttles off to check Plastic Soldier Review).
