To match the sillines that is the independent - I've started on the Krupp (I think) Grosstraktor II
It's a bit more of a sensible design than the independent and I've not seen one in 1/56.

I like the fact that your following an interesting historical thread with these builds
(It just show what forty quids worth of nicked blueprints will lead too.)
I do think you should mention the intrigue and correlation of the original vehicles, behind your builds as part of your marketing(especially if you go on to do the Russian interpretation) As it'll increase they're use and interest in have one of each.

Good idea ;)
Yes I'm enjoying the glory days of tank design where anythign was possible.
Got to get into the tank archives and see if I can find anything similar in Russia, I'm thinking a BT-2 might be a good match or a T-24 tank?

T-24!!! DO IIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!

You are my hero...I want one ASAP!
-
;D

Any chance they could also come in 1:100 or in English money 15mm, for us who nedd our tanks a wee bit smaller? :)
-
Grosstraktor. Nice!
My suggestion would be to do a little and large collection. A teeny tank to each. The Leichttraktor is actually a rather cool looking vehicle for its time and a T-18 would make a nice complement for the T-24. The T-18 even saw some active service and would be marketable to the BoB crowd as they were used in action on the Chinese border.
-
T-18 would be cute - they did see some use

Yes that was sort of the vague plan. ;D
The GT was driving me up the wall last night... loads of problems with the turret, the drawing is different in the 3 axis of the drawing... >:(
-
Love the Grosstraktor! I would second Carlos' ideas for the T18, been thinking of one (or three) to go up against Chinese FTs...
-
I'll bump the T-18 up the list then if I can find a drawing. Seeing as it actually got used in combat.
-
The Independent and GT need a buddy, so my vote is for the T-24 before any of the 'tiny' tanks. But whatever you decide, I'll be watching...
-
Looked at the T-18 and it is a bit tiny... I'll toss a coin once the GT is done.
also got a ship to draw too.

Multi-task man, Multi-task!

Looking good Rich! Where will they be available for people without 3d printers? :o ???

The wonderful silliness of interwar tank design matches the similarly colourful and varied history of interwar aircraft.
It was a time for designs to be worked on within an atmosphere of competition, but also with a good deal of freedom. Many suspected war was coming, so the money (and pressure) was there to fund designs in plenty, but as war was not actually imminent yet, there was room for wild experiments and flights of fancy.
There was such a varied history of design... some were obvious duds, some were great for their brief heyday only to end up as design dead-ends, while others started with teething troubles but proved amazing and versatile platforms over the long term. Parts were stolen and copied from design to design and between nations in a wild form of mix-and-match to build things which suited each nation's individual rearmament goals.
It's such a fantastic era for design. The art of the age matches that spirit too, with different schools of wildly different thought exploding all over the place.
As for more concrete suggestions about tanks specifically, well, the Soviet T-28 and T-29 have been suggested. Others which come to mind are the freakishly vertical open-topped American M2 Medium or the sporty-looking French D1 (or even its predecessor, the Renault NC1 with its lovely exposed and massively sprung interwar running gear),
The D1 already exists as a mediocre-quality Warlord model. Not sure about the others.

Bit more detail added
-
Hope is to get this finished this weekend.
I think I've got most of it sorted... Rivets and tracks to go really.
Wheels might get a bit more detail but the real one seems to have had pretty plain wheels anyway.

The Grosstraktor has come out splendidly and that looks rather promising for the T18 - top notch! :-* :-* :-*
