HI all just wondering if any of you 54mm gamers out there have played a star wars based game and what rule set/s have you used?
I'm resurrecting an old project of mine after looking at the wonderful SWMB threads here. My eyeballs can't handle that scale anymore but it's very inspiring seeing how SWMB encourages scratch building and proxy miniatures.
So has anyone adapted SWMB for 54mm?
-
I have the feeling South London Warlords did one, have a look om the Salute site.
-
Can't help with the rules, but have a look for "Star Wars Command" sets for figures.
The quality is acceptable, if not great. They used to be really cheap when they stopped the range, but are getting a bit more expensive now. They're still available on Amazon (and ebay, no doubt)
The most annoying bit is that they cover Clone Wars and New Era, but don't always supply the figures for both sides in the same era.
I have a stash of them that I hope to get around to one day (my eyes are heading that way as well :()
What other 54mm Star Wars figures are out there?
-
See if you can find a copy of inquisitor from GW. That was a pretty detailed rule set for 54mm and would work well for star wars too.
-
I game with them. I normally use my own rules, but there's no reason that any rules at all wouldn't work.
Unless they have "required basing", rules aren't really scale specific.
-
Great to see some interest in the Big Scale here on LAF. Doesn't happen very often! lol
Another great source for figures is the range released by Hasbro called Star Wars Unleashed: they are 54mm and pre-painted. The paint jobs are more than acceptable. Looking through Amazon or e-bay should turn up quite a few options. Here are some to give you a feel of what's out there: http://www.classictoysoldiers.com/cgi-bin/ctsc6/rtl/prd_d.cgi?category=Star%20Wars%20(54mm)
As for rules, anything could work. Just multiply movement and ranges by 2 (I usually do 1.5, actually, to help with space) and you're good to go!

Thanks Ultra I'll have a look

Yeah it's amazing i used to be able to handle 28mm now I'm struggling to paint eyes on a 54mm figure :P
There's a bunch of figures out there. I will eventually start a thread with some of my stuff. Star wars unleashed battlepacks have a decent range of figures some are closer to 1/30th scale and unfortunately they dont' match up that well with star wars command figures. Depends how fussy about scale you are,
Other than that there the deagostini die cast collection, a recent chess set, Plex from japan and a few other bits and pieces.
The real PITA is no one has made an endor trooper in the scale! driving me nuts I am trying to sculpt one up or kitbash something to make multiples

that's a cool idea I wonder if the guys on the conclave have made a SW mod?

Any pics? I've got some homebrew rules that are ok, a bit basic which is why I wondered if there had been a SWMB54mm mod done as I've it said that it captures the feel of star wars really well

yeah big fan of 54mm and of star wars so making them go together makes alot of sense.
That multiplier idea is a good one cheers Arundel!
I've got a bunch of the unleashed figures just no endor trooper sigh

here's a comparison pic I took a few years ago between the most common brands. Star wars Command, Deagostini, unleashed scout troopers with a tall unleashed officer on the end. The scaling and heft between these guys is not too bad
-
Thanks for the pic, I have a massive collection of the Command figs when they got dumped, and was never quite game to get the unleashed figs, having not seem them in the flesh to know if they scaled ok or not.
I'd say quite a few of the 3.75" accessory vehicles would also do on a table/yard, even if the technical dimensions aren't great. A Hasbro At-At, At-St, A-Wing and others would quite happily do me for a game.
-
I would go with galactic heroes, cheap, easy to play, plenty of star wars type powers and very adaptable.

I'll post up a few more if I can find any on my hard drive. I'd say it's a personal preference thing. For me so long as the heft of the figure is similar I don't mind a bit of variation in the heights but I have found some of the command figures to be too small for me. The unleashed figures tend to be a bit oversized (especially the rebel fleet troopers are a nightmare) but the deagostini figures are about right somewhere in between
Yes you're right about the hasbro vehicles they are a pretty good fit.
I don't have an Awing can you take a pic next to some figures?

cool idea I'm too invested in my collection but I do remember seeing some really nice pics online of galactic hero figs.
-
one more pic of some stormtroopers Action masters, Unleashed, Deagostini, Unleashed
Good news is the vintage action masters figures are a really good fit for 54mm and are arguably the first star wars toy soldiers made. The Han Solo figure looks like he's a dad doing a cosplay of han solo but the rest are pretty good
in hindsight that imperial officer isnt a good comparison figure way too tall!

I think he meant the Galactic Heroes rules, a relatively new set put out by Wiley Games: https://wiley-games.myshopify.com/products/galactic-heroes-rulebook

lol nice thanks Arundel

A Wing and Jango Slave 1
-
I think those work really well!

Seconded - Fistful of Lead: Galactic Heroes is the set we use for Star Wars games.

A Wing and Jango Slave 1
Thanks CDM for those pics. The ships and vehicles look really close would totally work.
What make is that smaller battlefront2 hover tank? That looks bang on to me I must get one (or two)
I did wonder about that rogue one tank too it looks like it would work better as a 1/30th scale tank than it would with 3 3/4 action figures

cool ok I'll definitely check it out. I noticed on the blurb on the website that it's roughful 6 to 8 models per player? Can you go higher than that or would it get too clunky?
-
If it's at a few models per person sort of level your looking for mutants and death Ray guns is what id recommend. That ruleset can be modded to do most anything. If you go on the song of blades and heroes Facebook group and ask how to make it into 54mm I'm sure they'd help make it work for you.

thanks Darathar I check that out too

ok thought I'd contribute some more scale photo's sorry for the blurry pics. Some vintage goodness...the troop transport is really well scaled and thanks to Rebels is back on the menu so to speak. The potf AT-ST is a reasonable fit too. Finally the unleashed snowspeeder is a good fit but I'd like to find another source of these
-
Who makes that Stormtrooper standing by the AT-ST's leg? I don't recognize him.

oh yeah I err cloned a stormtrooper and then chopped up a sandtrooper for the rifle. I quite like the pose on the resulting conversion but man they are quite tall at least 60mm. still if any figure is going to be oversized I think it should be those ones :)
-
here's a slightly less crap pic of my converted and cloned stormtroopers. Quick and dirty paint jobs as uaual for me
-
Both republican tanks are by Hasbro. The smaller is a simple one piece toy while the bigger has opening missile bays and driver hatches and has the recessed holes in the middle lower front hull.
I picked both up in a garage sale with no details.
-
nice that smaller ones looks especially good next to the commmand figures. I did a bit of digging yesterday I think it's this one here:
http://www.rebelscum.com/Republic_Fighter_Tank_Class_II_2013_Green_Yoda.asp
scaled down to easier to display? or cheaper? anyway I'm not sure how popular they were but I'll definitely be looking for one
thanks again for the pics!

okay well after a few days procrastination I think i will try out SWMB and double the ranges/ movement etc. I found all the rules and suppliments online through the SWMB facebook page. It's all public domain, designed for SW and has prerolled squads and scenarios etc.
I'll give that a bash at some stage.
In the meantime I'm going to start a SW54mm appreciation thread as there's no where near enough 54mm star wars in this forum!
I've got a bunch of conversions and scale comparisons to photograph and hope to get some feeddback/ critique/ ridicule its all good :)
-
I couldn't agree more that there isn't enough 54mm love on this, or any of the boards, quite frankly. Well done - can't wait to see what you show us!

Cheers Arundel I'm going to cross post with the littlewars revisited site as they are a dedicated 54mm forum and look like they could use a bit more traffic :)

Thanks for the heads up. Just posted over there as well (as gonefishing)!
