In anticipation of playing the cutest game of Rangers of Shadow Deep ever with my little daughters,
I've been painting Toon Realms minis, from Lucid Eye. I'm totally in love with this line.

They're great, cute minis and nice paintjobs. Have fun crafting and playing with your small ones, whenever I try to paint something with my 4-year old she just wants to play with the horsies and isn't bothered by the fact that she keeps them from getting painted.
-
I haven't purchased any yet, but I agree the line is great!
-
Superb!! Fun looking figures and have loads of fun when you game with your little ones. :)
-
Not generally my thing (although I can see them being popular - Reaper's equally cute mouslings sell like hotcakes) but I quite like the angry fungi there. Never too many fungus-man minis on the market.
-
I really like this line.
-
Busy, busy! Not a well-received post, but what the hell!? I love them, and my girls are totally excited about their characters. The plan is to collect and paint up the whole damn line!

Great paintjobs! Nice pics. Looks like a lot of fun! Best of luck to you and your girls as you explore the Shadowdeep.
-
Great little project. I love those beetles!
And the pipe smoke! :D
-
Those look ace, are the bugs having a dance off with the knight?
-
Collection taking shape really well, figures look super! You are going to have great fun with them that's fro sure! :)
-
Lovely little characters...tempting range of figures, keep the pictures coming please
-
Very cool. Nice work.
-
I'd recommend a slight change to the title including there intended use.
I understand your logic for using this style of figure. Honestly through with a lead pile full of halflings (citadel/gw,and early Copplestone.) This style of figure passes me by.
For a little inspiration for styling and scenery have you and your girls watch Boo zeno and the snergs.or
Arthur and the invisibles, Epic.?
I'd add dark crystal but that scared the living daylights out of my eldest ( she didn't watch it until she was ten.) Still can't watch it now and she's 23.)
-
I wasn't aware of that range of figs. They're fantastic. Good luck with the project.
-
There's something very endearing about those figures and your paint jobs really make them pop.
-
Nice work on a very characterful range of figures.
:-*
Have you considered looking at other toon-like ranges to add to them once you have finished this line?
After a bit of recent research following making my cave-folk I have found a few interesting options that may work well, the Warheads range for one, although I do not know how they will look side by side...
http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=221_222_207
I am certainly eyeing up their boars.
:D
-
Lovely work as always from you.
Could you photograph a toon next to a regular miniature, I'm looking to buy some but I'd like to know the actual size before I plump for this particular line as they're pricey.
-
How old are your daughters? I've been trying to come up with a game that will get my 8 year old grand daughter interested. Those would work perfectly with Song of Blades and Heroes.

There are already a number of Nightfolk from Northumbrian Tin Soldier that play with this gang.

They are 7 and 8. The older and I have been playing SoBaH for a year or so, but we switched to Rangers of Shadow Deep to get more of an RPG feel.

I'l try to get one tonight! The heroes are pricey, but the troops are not too bad.
Thanks for the comments! More to come, including a proper BatRep soon!

Thanks very much, that's very helpful.

Nick,
I have five kids (three moved out and number 4 off to study law in September.)youngest is 7 .
We also Foster . My go to game was always heroquest.small game on dungeon crawl tiles rather than the board. OP the characters and play to loose with dozens of monsters be over dramatic when your horde is being annihilated.
We still get strange looks from social workers (new ones.) When the kids say they've been playing D&D.
My older kids still game even after discovering alcohol and the opposite sex. ( infact they've found a boardgaming pub!)
Lead Asbestos has found a way to engage with some charming little figures.which he's putting a lot of effort into and no doubt they'll be loved by his girls.
A word of warning if your kids are as competitive as mine NEVER play monopoly. There will be blood.

Rangers of Creepy Deep, Scenario 1: The Deserted Village. My girls are loving Harry Potter right now, so I knew it was time to strike, while the iron is hot! We are going to play a gentler version of the campaigns from the excellent RPG-lite Rangers of Shadow Deep, made less scary and more kid-friendly 😉 Mom played too, while I took the sorta GM role. Everyone had a fine time! Next up, the Spider Trees, and then down into the Caverns of the Frog King. Minis are from the amazing Toon Realms line from Lucid Eye, all but Aventine and the rats.

Gorgeous paintwork on some really characterful figures. I have to check that range out!
-
Hell will come to Frogtown :o
-
Thanks for the heads up on this rage, you’ve painted them wonderfully. Maybe when mine are a bit older I’ll do something similar with them.
-
Fantastic stuff 8) 8)
-
Great job! Fantastic painting and a wonderful way to keep the kids involved. They are beautiful, by the way, but I'm sure you know this, already. :-)
My daughter likes the mushroom men from the Toons line.
My son keeps taking all the knights and painting their shields his way.
I have his Green Knight on my desk at work.
-
I love this thread!

Spiders for The Infected Trees scenario. A little tribute to the Rankin & Bass The Hobbit that I love so much.
-
Superb :-* 8)
-
They look spot on! Any chance of an AAR once you get around to that game? I love what you are doing here...
-
This is so awesome. I've got my daughter (age 8 ) hooked on Dungeon, and we played some Temple of Elemental Evil (board games) but I've been wanting give Rangers a try & maybe try to recruit my wife as well. My daughter is also just discovering Harry Potter (watched the first three movies so far.)
-
Sweet beans of mercy, that looks great!
-
These toon miniatures and paintjobs are fantastic! I hope you will enjoy them with your kids in many future gaming nights! :o
-
Lovely work on the spiders.
These Toon Realms minis look great...I am tempted to pick some up for HeroQuest with the kids...how do they scale are they 28mm (or similar)?
-
Great thread! The table looked very cool too!
-
Wonderful simply wonderful.
I must add I think your board is beautiful!
Excellent job on that. You are giving your girls
some great memories with dad.
-
Aw man, this is super fun! Love it!
-
Nice little figures brought to life. Terrific painting.
-
Thanks everyone! Battle report #2 coming up!
-
Well, I hope you are happy.
I knew nothing about this line of figures until I saw your post here on LAF.
Now I just dropped $120 on the figures!! ;D
-
I'm considering buying the Toon Realm figures to redo my old warhammer scenario packs like Terror of the Lichmaster and Orcs Drift. They are great figures.
-
Inkpaduta: "Well, I hope you are happy...."
LAF is a dangerous place that way, I find.

Amen to that brother!

I hope you name dropped me! I keep dreaming that they will do one of their mascot sculpts of me! An Ogre, I think, would suit me best!

Scenario 2: The Infected Trees
A few shots from our last adventure, which went without much peril, and so was greatly enjoyed by all! The girls enjoy giving the Creepy Deep a good thrashing!

-
Plus some new minions of Lord Voldymort, the Ghosts! Tried to emulate the colors of a certain video game from back in the day, but my color-blindness may have failed me this time! Oh well, you get the idea!

and Sir Boyfriend
lol That shouldn't amuse me as much as it does.

I was stuck for a name, and suddenly, there it was! :D
-
What a great thread. Man, you nailed it for "cute" kid friendly gaming! Hopefully your daughters enjoy gaming with their Dad for years to come.

More coolness. Love it.

Wonderful miniatures and great painting work! I have found the wolf I need for my games!
