Hi folks,
after seeing the new late war British infantry by Empress miniatures I would like to start a project about operation Infatuate, the Commonwealth assault on Walcheren in autumn 1944.
While the British by Empress seem to fit rather well, I'm not too sure about the late War Germans. These all seem to be wearing winter equipment, and the pictures of Infatuate I found so far only show Germans in Greatcoats, but no Zeltbahn or Camo Smocks.
Do you have any sources or images about Germans on Walcheren or the Netherlands in late 1944 wearing camo smocks and Zeltbahn?

I have the Osprey title which has half a dozen photos of the garrison troops after the surrender. All are wearing greatcoats.
I also have a copy of the Pen and Sword “Walcheren” in their Battleground Europe series. This has 17 photos of Germans almost all showing men in greatcoats. Amongst these photos of surrendered troops I can see only one soldier wearing a camp top. Pictures of the regimental commanders do have them wearing camouflage jackets.
There is a single picture of German cyclists wearing zeltbahns but there is no indication of the date or that it represents the garrison.
The implication is that, for Walcheren, it seems unlikely that smocks or zeltbans were the norm.

For the marines, you really want chaps in Denisons. You could use the WG paras with head swaps or just berets or the IMO much nicer Foundry British paras in berets.

Gunslinger, hope you enjoy the project in 28mm. I am having a crack at it in 20mm.
The links introduced by Carlos are excellent and many thanks. I will certainly watch the films a number if times.
The recent topics on “late war British infantry” and “25mm played in 1/48 scale “ have been tremendous. I feel I have been really learning something whilst creating enthusiasm and motivation. Congrats to all involved.
This has been a rare foray into positivity for me. I shall now return to my comfort zone of being a miserable auld............
