Hello everyone!
I'm in dire need of advice. I'll be leaving in a few days to a remote place. Does anyone could recommend me a wargame allowing for a solo gameplay other than Sellswords and Spellslingers & Rangers of the Shadow Deep? Thanks in advance:)

How much space do you have and how many figures? How much time do you have to learn new rules - short trip and simple rules or long stay and something complicated).
I find Dragons Rampant is Ok for solo gaming due to the activation system. Possibly Hail Caesar with a fantasy twist could work.
Do you have time to work out how to play Rally Round the King?

Heroquest
Dungeoneer

TwoHourWargames Swordpoint? You can ditch the bits you might dislike, I like the randomness it adds.

Look at Doom Squad from Alternative armies, I have it but not played it yet, but it looks good.
Plus it's controlled opponent systems look like they would easily bolt onto several well known GW and other game systems 👍
And its only £9😁

See what you think

Ps. There is also The Department

I'll manage to organise typical 4x4 space, learning rules isn't a problem, but the less minis I'll need the better. I've been thinking about using tokens, that should help:)

Paper figures may be something to consider if weight is an issue - rpgnow link (https://www.rpgnow.com/browse.php?keywords=Fantasy&filters=0_2270_0_0_0&x=0&y=0&author=&artist=&pfrom=&pto=)

Four Against Darkness springs to mind. It's from Ganesha Games if I am not mistaken. It is a solitaire dungeon crawler, no miniatures needed.

I would say that "Blood on the Blade" is worth a look.

I solo game with Two Hour Wargames' "Talomir Tales - Distant Shores" game (though they have a couple of similar games as well). It's basically a warband level game with your "Star" and cast of Grunts. The system generates all your missions and encounters for you, including NPC interactions, linking into a campaign system in which you can improve your figures' capabilities (or see them degrade if they have bad combat results).

Here's a scenario report. Full disclosure, I like the system so much I wrote a scenario book for them! My son was really into the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, and I wanted to do some gaming with him. DnD doesn't do solo or co-op/non-GM gaming very well, and he didn't like being one player against the Dad GM. But this system does do solo and co-op gaming very well. So I made up a campaign for him using the THW rules with his character as the Star and I played a supporting character in the Group he put together. I shopped the idea to THW, and they liked it enough to publish it as "The Druid's Children" (with permission from Splintered Light, who make great minis for a Redwall type of game). Anyways, here's a game report:

Now, of course any wargamer worth his salt would, in these circumstances, write their own rules. No pressure, but we are expecting a complete rules system in the next three months!

Not that its much help, but Zombicide (original) is my go to solo game as the zombies are controlled by the game mechanics.
They do a fantasy adaptation (black plague), which presumably does similar...

Palaeo Diet: Eat or be Eaten is a solo/co-op. Written for prehistoric hunts where all beasts (and rival hunters) are AI. Easy to fantasy it up, and in the Fireside Tales supplement there are even large hominids/yeti/trolls, and a hydra.

Here is an example that we played with no modding of the rules.

SB, how do these rules differ from the other Two Hour Wargame rule sets? I have bought some over the years and have liked some of what they have to offer but have never really gone on to play them in a major way. Could you perhaps start a new tread to tell us how these rules work rather than me hijacking this particular thread?

If anyone is looking for THW rules, there's a 25% off coupon on their forum just now - http://twohourwargames.proboards.com/thread/8/25-off-order
You do have to join the forum, but still seems to be a pretty decent offer. Valid through Sunday 21st April

Hi,
Sure, I'd be happy to. I'll try and get something up this week.
Cheers!

Five Leagues from the Borderlands is an awesome game, and is intended for solo.
Small space, limited figures.
I really enjoy it.

Hordes of the Things is a small play area, low figure count game; also works fine with miniatureless bases for counters. The pip activation system works quite well for solo play.
