Title: Jewish revolts: what models can be used?
Post by: Antonio J Carrasco on May 28, 2019, 10:20:32 AM
As, regretfully, there are no plastic sets of Jewish warriors (which is a pity; hopefully, some manufacturer will realize how much potential a set of plastic Jewish warriors and sicarii/zealots could have, comercially speaking! :D )  I was wondering what else is available if I would decide to build a small skirmish force to fight my Roman legionaries (Victrix, mostly)

Perry Mahdists & Victrix peltasts (and Archer/slingers) may be of some use. For cavalry Victrix hellenestic cavalry might be useful. Some amount of simple convertion might be necessary.

You're not the first person wanting plastic jews :)

That's a good idea. Still better, I have spares from the three sets, so I can explore some conversions.

I'd love to see some, but until they are a thing I'll eventually convert the following:

I am using a mixture of :

A) Wargmaes Factory Numidians (Out of production)

These are generic, tunic wearing guys, with tons of empty hands for customisation. They're old , ugly, clunky, and absolutely horrific. I love them and to me at least, look generic enough to be anything in the Mediterranean.

B) Victrix Numidians with head swaps

Victrix offers a lot of customisation. Sub out some of those numidian heads and throw on some basic looking roman or greek ones, that can be used as Jews.  Germans might have more beards if you want that, though they're more wild.

c) Random victrix armored roman bodies with conversions

Just so it looks like the odd guy looted

d) Black Tree design minis

Black Tree Design has a bunch of ancients, and some of them are very, very generic looking. Persian peasants, phygarian infantry.. These could just be used as citizens

For capes and the like, I'm using victrix stuff I have left over from cavalry sets.

It'll be a big conversion project, because sadly there is nothing out there in 28mm!

I'm afraid I don't know much about the Jewish revolt and what they would be wearing so this might be a stupid suggestion but... Gangs of Rome fighters?

What about Victrix Carthaginian citizen militia with bare heads sourced from elsewhere? They look like fairly generic looking ancient middle eastern types.
