Saw on warlords site today new minis to go with their Rorkes drift set, not bad renditions (holding out for the InDuna and witch doctor as a separate pack) but it got me wondering, whatever happened to the warlord/Empress miniatures collaboration?
It used to be you could get metal empress stuff packed in with warlord plastics and then they just topped with no fanfare and repackaged them, also I recall empress announcing new packs a little while ago but nothing since.
Pics for your delectation.

For Empress I recently did Highlanders and Naval Brigade. Those were the sets that they had advertised doing.
-
Empress Miniatures agreed over two years ago to stop our working relationship. Nothing dramatic we just both agreed to work separately. Different companies different styles. ;)
Since then our range of metals has continued to grow with various wagons, Naval Brigade, Highlanders, personalities etc.
We would love to grow the range a lot quicker but despite the skin grafts the extra sets of arms we put on our sculptor Paul Hicks just did not take.
However more AZW in the pipeline.
Cheers, Paul

Ooh, these look very nice 👍!!!
-
Hopefully they will release these as separate packs and not just part of the Rorkes Drift set at some point !!
-
Thanks for the info all, it's a shame as I quite enjoyed being able to combine postage on empress/warlord stuff, the naval stuff I loved and i recall a vague mention of some day doing commissary officers...although tbh what i;d really like to see is some colonial civvies.
I'm hoping for them as a separate pack too, I recall the badly photographed warlord display had a few rorkes drift characters we haven't seen yet as well as a NNC-looking officer with sword a a nnc trooper with a knobkerrie so here's hoping too.

Or buy the Empress Miniatures film or historical ones:)

I am tempted you cheeky fellow, if you don't mind me saying I find that your miniatures are sometimes too finely detailed for me, lots of bent swords/bayonets as I am a clumsy git....that said it hasn't stopped me from buying them before...

Got all the Empress Rorkes Drift figures and very nice they are too !!
Pics of mine attached!!

Fantastic job :-*

Cheers Paul 😀

Cool! But I don't think that's quite all the Empress Rorke's Drift figures. You need to show us the rest, too. :)
I really like that Warlord inyanga/isangoma (or whatever it is meant to be). Lovely pose. I already have a Foundry inyanga I need to paint, though, so I guess he'll have to wait.
-
Here you go Plynkes, you can pick some of others out amongst this lot !!
-
Thanks, Mike! That was a fast response. :)

That's brilliant. :-* :-* :-* :-*

A quick query, how do the new Warlord figures compare sizewise to other ranges? My Zulu War is a mix of Redoubt and Black Tree design, I like the Empress figures but I sold them off as they were a bit smaller..
-
No idea but the warlord plastics were bigger/chunkier than the empress stuff.
Also more stuff out for them, including a fellow called ''Dan the Yank'' whom I've never heard of.
-
Not very good are they? :?
-
I like them apart from the poses from Dan the yank and private hitch(his right arm looks too long) hoping they come out as a separate set.
-
Dan the Yank was an American civilian called Mr Daniels. He was in charge of the Pont at Rorkes Drift. He offered to defend the pont with his weapon of choice which was a sword when news of the Zulu Impi moving on Rorkes Drift broke out.
I like the new figures but as stated some of them are a little odd !!
Still buy them though if they come out as separate packs !!!
-
Difficult to know what to make of them really, with relatively small photos, but they seem to encapsulate the goofy comicbook style that I have no enthusiasm for. Some are okay and it's obvious they've used paintings as their inspiration for some of the better poses, but frankly I think there are better versions out there. Not my bag.
Dan balancing a cutlass on his head is something that makes you wonder what the sculptor was thinking.
-
Not impressed, actually. The poses look odd.

Why you uncultured plum, that is the commonplace tradition of a game of pin the horn to the rhino. ;) lol
I agree however, looks odd. Maybe he means to swat away a mosquito.

The spelling of the name of the figure at top left in the first image is rather unfortunate.

Blimey had missed that! Laughed out loud!!!

Chaplain Smith did not win a VC as stated on the picture of his model !!

Aye, it would've been a bit difficult since he was technically a civilian non-com!
-
Indeed he was Cubs !!!

Nope :(
Like, I’m afraid, quite a lot of Warlord figures. They have a style, but it’s not a style that appeals to me. Slightly cartoony caricatures in overwrought poses. I have both the ‘movie’ and historical versions of Mr Hicks’ sets for Empress, and they are in a different league to these.
My ones...

Was chatting to warlord staff at great game, apparently the minis with the rorkes drift boxed set will not be released separate but new command stands are being done for the AZW.

Clearly you are being too gentle with him, allowing him to sleep and things like that.

Agreed! a damn good flogging is in order!
-
I strongly disagree. Kindness is always the best encouragement, combined, if necessary, with intravenous feeding.

Ah, I see, I get you now...more like this?

Umm...maybe you should let him up now? The dip should have refreshed him, but long-term deprival of oxygen won't help his productivity.
-
Is there any more info on Warlord releasing their new figures for this range ??
-
Nothing on their Web Site !!
