I've just started a section on my hobby blog showing the development of my new Tavern terrain for D&D and skirmish gaming with Saga Age of Magic, Burrows and Badgers, Thud & Blunder, Otherworld and Lord of the Rings. I hope to get it finished by the end of the month and will be doing weekly updates.

I am planning to have the Inn and the initial tile completed by the end on June 2019. After that I will expand the gaming area to 3'x3' with the inclusion of outbuildings including stables and barn and some gardens and a courtyard area

Over the last week I have made quiet a bit of progress on my Fantasy Inn project.
Today is a huge milestone, as I have finally finished 3D printing and assembling the roof sections. Each of the 3 roof sections have 64 separate tile sections which are suspended on a framework of 'A' frames in a very similar way to a real roof. This completes the build of the Inn itself, it just all needs to be painted. The wooden plank sections on the ground floor have been painted and have had two levels of drybrushing applied to bring out the texture of the wood. Hopefully you can see the difference between the staircase that has been painted and the first floor wood work which has just been undercoated.
Here's a look at the first floor accommodation with the roof off. I love the wooden veranda. I can see all sorts of swashbuckling swordplay going on along it!
I also decided that an Inn was going to need stabling for customers horses, so a did a bit of searching on the Internet and found this rather nice design for medieval / fantasy stables. The 3D design files are from Infinite Dimensions. It was not a company that I had heard off, but as the design file was in the region of £11 I thought that I would give it a go, and I am very pleased with the results. There are doors to go in the openings at the front, however the sides are open as well, so I get the feeling that horses would just wander out. I am therefore planning to add individual stalls and hay and water provision by hand to complete the equine provision.

That looks fantastic Chris :D

Chris, that is looking absolutely superb, off to your blog to read more. :-*
-
Lovely stuff. Should all paint up nicely.
-
I enjoyed the blog! Can't wait to see more painted.
-
Very very impressive!
-
Cool!
-
Great job!
Dunno if you want more tavern dishes, but Tiny Furniture sells them at 60 pieces for $10 plus shipping.
Galladoria Games also has a kitchen inn furniture set, although I don't think you're looking for game tiles.

Wonderul project!

Last weekend I finally finished the core two foot square modular terrain board with the fantasy tavern on it.
My plan is to expand out from here. The next stage is to finish five one foot square terrain boards to be able to expand the Inn to a three foot gaming area with stables, barns, orchard, gardens etc.
The big plan is to continue working on the project using Tera-Former modular terrain boards together with 3D printed buildings to expand outwards to a fantasy village and eventually a small town. I would love to be able to cover my whole 5' x 12' table with a fantasy townscape that includes a castle and some docks!

That looks great! Should make for some fantastic games.
-
That's a bold plane, I hope to see it completed.
-
Stunning piece of terrain! It will make every tavern brawl an event to speak of for generations!
-
Looks fantastic! Love the attention to detail.

An excellent build Chris, will make for some interesting games

Glad you like it.
Here a peek inside the first floor living accommodation for the Inn keeper and his family.

What a great piece of terrain. Aside from the occasional bar brawl, I think it would be a great stage to set the beginnings of a larger adventure. Meet the stranger in the corner who tells you a tale, a bar keep who has heard rumors from haggard travelers, or the soldier who stumbles through the door only to fall dead clutching a bloody note in his hand. The Inn is a staple set piece for role playing!
-
Great work. Most importantly I appreciate that it's designed for game-play. The exterior staircase, many awnings/decks, numerous entrances and rooms, etc. I love seeing a large building which is versatile enough to almost throw a full game inside. Nicely done.
-
Very cool project there and kudos for sticking to it! Because a tavern like that can quickly become an endless endeavor I think. :D At the very least it takes a LOT more work than one would think in the beginning. It's looking great already.

Last week, I got to spend a couple of evenings working on my Fantasy Inn project
(https://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/WebRoot/Namesco/Shops/950003459/MediaGallery/Hobby_Articles/3D_Inn/Inn_Staff_6.jpg)
I had felt that the Inn was a little understaffed for it's size, and as we had some of the lovely Otherworld Miniatures NPC's in stock at work I painted a batch of them up to bolster the catering team.
The Inn also needed customers so I painted nine seated customers. 3 of them were Citadel Miniatures from the good old days, and the other 6 were Sally 4th 'The Crowd' miniatures.
I then adjusted some files for 3D printing chairs to reduce height and stretch width until they were the perfect size for the miniatures.
Further details and lots more photos on my hobby blog@

That is just so cool. I can practically hear the bard singing over the clank of beer steins from here.
-
The scope of the fantasy inn project has grown a little, as is often the way with my hobby projects..
I have just made the first YouTube video about the project....

^^
What he said.
Also, you do not have to limit it to fantasy terrain as, with the addition of period furniture it could used right up to modern day and beyond.
;)

Over the last week or so I have expanded the terrain around the Inn to include more yard, orchards and a kitchen garden together with an entrance to the beer cellar.

Love you work. On 1st page picture of lady with rolling pin. Any idea of who makes her. I have perfect hen pecked man for her.

beautiful work! Excellent attention to detail.

Scrubber,
The lady with the rolling pin is 'Old Crone' from Otherworld Miniatures NPC range.
I have most of them working in the Inn!

Magnificent project, really nice painting!

Glad you like it.
I am just about ready to film the next video where we expand to 4' square with the start of the village.
I've also just added a 3D print service to what we offer at Sally 4th for people like me who have been collecting 3D print files for miniatures including some great free ones but have not had the facilities to print them out themselves. http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/3DPrint (http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/3DPrint)

Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy building new boards for the start of the village for Blackstone Heath.

I am planning to shoot a new video in the next couple of days, but for now here are a couple of shots I tokk on my Iphone at lunchtime.

Wow! :o

Just posted the latest Blackstone Heath terrain project video.
This expands the gaming area from 3' square to 4' square and adds the start of the village together with a couple of hill and forest boards.

This is looking stunning :-*
-
Just posted sixth video about building Blackstone Heath.
This takes the table from 4' x 4' to 4' x 5' expanding the terrain with two additional village and two forest tiles.
https://youtu.be/ijo6Dgz-704 (https://youtu.be/ijo6Dgz-704)
-
Man, I love this so much. I would love to do something similar, but I just have too many different ideas floating around... At least I finally said goodbye to my plans for a Mordheim table.
-
I think they key to me getting this done is starting small, building something that could be played on and then adding to it. Although I have drawn a map right at the start for the whole 5' x 12' table, I started by building a 2' square tile and played some games on it before adding tiles to expand it to a 3' square gaming area.
-
Yeah that is how I approached my dungeon and cavern builds too. It's just that with limited space and even less time to actually get stuff done, what I would like to do and actually can do are a world apart.
One thing I am certain of is I want to get a Necromunda table done, and add to my dungeon. Besides that, it has to be either a pure Frostgrave table or something more generic, but then it's a toss up between village and city... So many choices... So little time and space.
-
Cool project. I really like the look of this whole table together. Not hugely into videos when it comes to miniature things, but the explanations help. Good stuff.
-
Just posted the seventh Blackstone Heath video.
This expands the terrain from 5' x 4' to 5' x 5' by adding a 5' x 1' stream section with a watermill, rocky crag and a couple of bridges.

I am just working on editing the next Blackstone Heath video at the moment.

The two things that we have added is some Hobbit Holes and some village folk.
I've added a write up to my Blackstone Heath Hobby Blog with loads more photos of both.
