Start trying to build a small stern wheeler paddle steamer for my upcoming wild west collection.
Part one: printing the wheel and the iron frame

You didn't specify target scale - as in 15 mm (the very best! lol) or something larger.

Luck wid dat. Here's a little theme music for ya:

Thanks for the comments and the music:
The scale is 28mm. Today I shaped the hull and started with the upper structure.

By the way, I live in the town where the sister to the Delta Queen resides, the Delta King - and the delta in the names refers to the Sacramento/San Joaquin rivers delta, not the Mississippi (some miscreants 'stole' our other boat and moved it to the wrong river! :o).
Just google Delta King for images. You'll want the paddles a lot more inboard of the stern - though I realize that is only a temporary layout. Smokestack should - absolutely - be further back, behind the wheel house, ditto temporary layout though. Why? Pilot can't see through the smokestack, some had two smoke stacks forward of the pilot house but the gap between gave the boat pilot a view ahead.
Good progress. Awaiting the finished product on display in a game.

I have now finished the overall layout of the steamer.

Looks good to me. I don't think you need to worry about historical accuracy on something this fun. It looks the part, and that's what matters.

Nice progress - though I predict some nasty wrecks are in the future for this river boat! :o lol
Pilot won't be able to see dead ahead, shaft to the wheel is going to be a mechanical nightmare. I speak as a US Navy machinist's mate once upon a very long time ago.

These are some I built for gaming that are on this site.
I built three 28mm scale river paddlewheelers and the Hunley for a ACW scenario where the Union attacks a Confederate shipyard where the Hunley is being completed, to prevent it from being launched. I do not have pictures of the largest riverboat (Allegheny), but the two smaller ones are seen below.
The roofs and upper decks all lift off to place figures inside.
Pictures of the Edwin Stokes (steamer) and the Intrepid (tinclad) are attached. I sketched plans and used a band saw to cut the hull/deck pieces for all three. Ask if you have any questions about the construction/features.
