Hey all,
Many many moons ago (the late 90's) I bought a load of Wargames Foundry Vikings with a view to playing Warhammer Ancient Battles.
That never happened. I primed a few and painted even less.
Many moves, projects and children later, I figured I'd maybe rectify that.
Won't be WAB this time, I'm looking at SAGA (Age of Vikings/Magic) plus a few other games revolving around (fantasy) Dark Ages.
So, I set about cataloguing which figures I had, turns out I stupidly sold a few, and they seem to have changed the packs since I bought them...
And then I made a start.
I figured an all Hearthguard Jomsviking force was the best way to go, as it was the least amount of models to paint to get started, so, Warlord and 6pts of Hearthguard were sorted out (4 x HW/S, 2 x Heavy Weapon) and painted up in short order. Been painting more up, and the plan is to paint one of every Wargames Foundry Viking sculpt. I've rattled out a few over the last few weeks, and there is more information about it on my blog (http://studiogaarewblog.blogspot.com/).
I have the 2005 Catalogue to keep me right, but if anyone has any images/fliers of the packs before they went to six figures, that would be hugely appreciated.
Enough waffle, time for pics!
Enjoy :D

1pt Hearthguard with Hand Weapons and Shields.
I'm using the shields with embossed details for these guys, and most of the figures should have mail coats.

Took a break from painting armour to do a unit of Berserkers so that I can also use the models as "standard" Vikings as well as Jomsvikings.

Gorm the Pious Priest, who will be my Priest funnily enough.

Compact but deadly, the original 6pts of Jomsvikings.
Yes, that is Odin leading them... But not that Odin. Obviously.

Father Liam (VIK4/8 Viking Raiders)
Yes, I realise he isn't actually a Viking, but he came in one of the packs, so can be an objective marker if he isn't standing in as a Norman Priest.

Figured I should add a couple of Command figures (VIK2/1 Viking Command)
Slightly annoying neither of the horn blowers has mail...

The latest addition to the force.
1pt of Viking Archers. Made up of 2 sets of 4 figures from VIK1/4 Archers and 2 unlisted ones that I suspect originally came in that pack. I'll have to pick up a pack for the 2 sculpts I am missing though.

Very nicely done, I like the strong vibrant colours. Having mis-read the title I came expecting slightly wonky looking plastics, but found lovely metal figures!!
Do you have some mythical creatures for Age of Magic version of the force?

Cheers dude, hahahahahahaha, no, as I get older I think I've come full circle and rekindled a love for metal sculpts (well one piece ones anyway) for the exaggerated detail that I don't get in plastic, so, no worries, there will be no WGF plastic Vikings here.
I have a plethora of mytical creatures to add to the army, I just held off posting the pictures as I was under the impression that would involve getting my knuckles rapped outside of the Fantasy boards.
I should probably stick a thread up there in any case.
Cheers,
John

Good stuff.
I too have had my Foundry vikings sitting in the lead pile after I got more enthused about the early dark ages. Given their more fantastical style I thought they'd be best used as Jomsvikings in SAGA too, so I'll follow your project with interest.
