Nice painting, please post zoomed pictures of the figures ;)
Nice basing too !
-
Sorry, I do not know what you mean by "Zoomed". Are the pictures to big?
And thanks :)
-
It would be nice to better see the finished figures, smaller groups or single base pics, for instance. :)

Thanks fred :) Bolt Action and Chain of Command

Cool. We’ve played a bit of CoC in 10mm it plays very well.
I’d expect BA in 10mm will look and play much better than in 28mm - it always seems rather compressed with the big figures.

Nope, I think it's great too. I'm just not good at coming up with anything to say beyond "What he said!"
-
there are a few threads on the boards here with top class stuff that I've noticed like that; not getting the response one might expect - no idea why - just one of those things - please keep posting.
Might be 'coz you're on the 'wip' board with a catch all thread.
-
Excellent work. I really like the textures you achieve with your distinctive painting style. Contrast is also great. Hard to describe it, but it looks like your own take on painting Goblins.
-

What he said! :D
-
'ello. :)
I really enjoy the look of your O&G. Kudos for putting all this work into them. All that bloody NMM with all the little scratches and brown reflections and all! Good stuff. I also like the unique colour scheme and overall that 'grainy' look, which makes them look proper menacing. I think that sort of texture is what is extremely lacking in GW figures especially now. At least in many, many paintjobs you see and certainly the studio paintjobs. Especially with O&G though your style works so great. It makes different textures visible, the earthy tones give the figures a certain sense of reality (as far fetched as that may sound).
Did you make the standards from thin plasticard, softened up with a hair dryer?
Also - chain of command in 10mm: That gets my approval. :D Good stuff.
-
@ Billchuck: Thanks!
@Peithetairos: Thank you very much!
@Spinal Tap: Thank you too!
@Sigur: Thank you so much! The brown "reflections" are supposed to be rust actually :D You are spot on with the standards. That is exactly how I do them, but instead of a hair dryer I have used a lighter.
I finished another batch of spearman. Still need six more, plus command.

Really fantastic painting.

....
Oh well, shine, rust... tomato/tomah-toe. :D I just thought it was some sort of reflections because the high-contrast NMM look on the spear heads is so spot on. Either way, it's a great look.

That’s a great looking mob of goblins! They might be some of the nicest paint jobs I’ve seen on the single pose plastic figures. The command group add a lot of character, too!
I missed your previous post, with the spearmen and character figures- they also look great!

I've just been going through this thread. Amazing work on those old goblin models and the highlighting on those WW2 Polish vehicles is fantastic.
-
I agree, there’s a lot of beautiful work in this thread. I like the edge highlighting on the WW2 vehicles, it helps make their shapes distinguishable especially on the camouflaged ones. I do something similar on my 6mm sized WW2 to help them “pop”.
-
Thanks 6mmfan!
Thanks again Pattus. Can I see your stuff somewhere? Do you have a link :)?
-
Batu, I don’t have any pics of my 6mm stuff online at the moment. I’ll take a few pics soon and put them in a thread here on LAF. It might be a couple of days before I get to it. I’ll provide a link.

great stuff.
and agreed on the edge highlighting. I'm increasingly thinking it's a necessity, one way or another, for figures etc to really come across well in your average table-top lighting situation.
-
Awesome looking 10mm!!!
-
Batu,
My WW2 post showing edge highlighting on my 6mm stuff is here: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=132936.msg1688470#msg1688470 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=132936.msg1688470#msg1688470)
The pics aren't as good as yours in this thread, but I hope the edge-highlighting effect shows up!

-
I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with these orcs, your goblins are excellent! I expect your painting style will also suit the sci-fi figures (old necromunda figs?).
I can’t help with sourcing the shields, but one possibility if you can’t find enough would be to use the blue heat-softened moulding plastic to make press-mounds of an unpainted shield. You can then use it to mould greenstuff replicas on a thin sheet of styrene backing and cut them out. They won’t have any details on the shield backs but folks won’t see that anyway when the models are assembled. Some won’t be as crisply moulded as the original, but with orcs that won’t be a problem- they aren’t known for their craftsmanship anyway!
-
I am looking for 20 of those. Maybe some one could help me out:

It might be easier just to buy some blue stuff and cast your own, I'm pretty sure those shields are long out of print

Completely agree, Codsticker, the ganger looks like whatever hit him in the face hurt! The orcs both look excellent, too. I like the shading/ blending on each of the colours, and the very pale edge highlights. It all pops!

Is big hair a sign of status in the Escher gang? The (I assume?) boss lady looks like she used a case of hairspray to get her hairdo to stay in place. Or maybe hairspray is to Eschers a bit like cigarettes for convicts, and serves as a local currency...
In any case, good job!

Fantastic! I love your painting style. Those cold colours work well with the bleak Necromunda style.

You’re welcome! It is easy to find compliments for your figs, you do a consistently excellent job on the ones you have posted pictures of.
Those buildings look good, had to do a quick double-take to notice that they’re card stock! I have been doing something similar, putting card stock buildings on textured bases and I like the effect.
Where did you get these ones?

Those are from the 5th edition WFB starter set from the 90s.

I completely agree, that’s a very cool paint job on the archers. The space marines look intriguing, too - are those 3D printed bodies with spare GW components? If so, that seems like a good way to make full use of extra bits.

Thanks Pattus. The bodies are resin sculpts from Tortugabay (Ukraine) and the shoulder pads are 3d printed. Most weapons and arms are GW, some 3d printed.

Ooh; those are Malal worshippers, aren't they?
A very cool take on them for sure! Where's the unit leader from? 8)
White Scar marines look the biz too; nice addition of suitable bits to fir the theme. But is that a chaos marine I spot in the back? ;)

Ooh; those are Malal worshippers, aren't they?
A very cool take on them for sure! Where's the unit leader from? 8)
White Scar marines look the biz too; nice addition of suitable bits to fir the theme. But is that a chaos marine I spot in the back? ;)
Malal indeed!

More stuff done. The first guy has a "jungle style" ammo clip. I have tried to sculpt Cossack style hair on the second guy.

The added details look great! I like the standard, too - is that a shield from the Oathmark Revenants set, tricked out with some spare skulls?

No, it is from a GW Undead kit.
All heads and helmets done. The only thing left are doing the details and the bases.

That's a beautiful style - really gritty and some great weathering, but it's the highlights that really blow me away. Your brushstrokes-visible highlighting almost reminds me of pointillism - a real piece of art.

Oh shit, I page turned. Here's a quote, so people can still see:

I’d love to know more about how you paint your figures - do have a step by step or any guides you could link us to?

Thanks Ragsta! No guides I am afraid. It is a rather chaotic process.
