Hello everyone. Started a small Royalist patrol for skirmish gaming. Still fiddling the colour palette. As always comments and thought much appriecated

Lovely, you've got a nice handle on the highlighting. I just started work on some Perry ECW as well so this is inspiring.
-
very nicely painted, but they look very clean. Musketeers are often covered in crap (or at least gunpowder residue).

I do like them, very nicely done. The blue is outstanding 👍

Nice :)

Excellent work even if they are the bad guys ha
-
Beautiful work. I think the colours look bang on. That Perry pack of musketeers is one of my favourite sets of ECW figures.
God Save the King! (And a pox on the Parliament :D )

These are really great. The blue jackets and breeches look spot on.
-
Thanks everyone. The perry sculpts are a joy to paint.

God Save the King!
....because nobody else can! :-}

Those are really nice. That shade of blue is ace - what is it?
-
Very nicely done Sir! Did you use contrast paints on those?
-
Lovely painting. Much better than mine. Are they going to be Washington’s / Ussher’s dragoons?
-
I like those - crisp colours but not too crisp, great muted shades.
I'll take you at your word with comments thoughts, in the hope it's not unwelcome! Because faces and particularly eyes are kind of my thing, I have a nice quick cheat to paint realistic looking peepers without having to just shade them in. A lot of painters will just leave a dark line there, on the grounds that eyes don't show at long range, which is valid. I like to put them in where possible, but to make sure they're the right size and shape, I paint the eyes straight after putting a dark skin base colour on. Then I can thin and thin and thin the eyes down to narrow slits and put in the pupils, cleaning it all up with the dark skin shade. Then paint the face as normal after that. I also like to leave a darker patch under the eyes, then insert a thin slice of pale skin shade as a lower eyelid or bags under the eyes - it's so easy to do and really adds life.

Nice work so far. Looks like an interesting project.

Thanks everybody. Since getting back at my painting table hahave really struggled with painting eyes. Thanks so much for the advice. Back to work after a couple of weeks off but will take your excellent advice cubs.
-
That is indeed a great shade of blue! I think your color palette is spot on. Good advice from Cubs, I will try that as well.

Been real busy with life things recently but managed to paint two dismounted parliamentary scouts. Bad guys spying on my loyal lads.
-
Beautiful! Who makes the minis!
-
They are bicorne miniatures. A little bigger than the perry ecw but nice to paint. Thanks for the comment!
