Hi
Just to let you know that Flags of War has activated its Kickstarter for the Government forces for its 1745 Jacobite Rebellion range:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/government1745/1745-jacobite-rebellion-british-government-troops/comments
I participated in the previous KS (Jacobite forces) and it was a good experience. The models are excellent, very well casted and very dynamic. Also very important in my opinion, the pledges were sent after a very small delay from the date mentioned in the KS, barely a couple of weeks (if it was that long!).
Best!
-
Thank you for posting Antonio.
We are over halfway and that is a fantastic start :)
-
Backed - the Jacobites were great and these look superb.
-
Backed the Jacobites & they are excellent.
Unfortunately bought a Government army in the meantime.
Greatly tempted by the Government Scots though.

Yield to temptation! You won't regret it! lol
-
To quote Oscar Wilde, ' I can resist anything but temptation'
-
I bought into the Jacobites, though much to my shame they are yet to see a lick of paint. When payday rolls around, I will be buying into this one too.
-
Don't miss this Kickstarter.
The figures are superb and Iain is excellent to deal with.
-
Iain has updated the KS. Photos of the minis, "in the metal"

Just shy of 74% now. Some promotion work going out today hopefully from WS&S and WI. I have submitted details to a couple of other sites but have yet to hear back :)
-
Fingers crossed, Iain!

Some notes from Iain about wargaming the 45.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/government1745/1745-jacobite-rebellion-british-government-troops/posts/2602903
One of the things that attracted me of gaming the 45 (besides enjoying the opportunity of painting tartans, the BDSM of wargaming) was precisely the myriad of potential scenarios, from small skirmishes to Culloden. By the way, although Iain doesn't mention it I think that the black powder variant of Fistful of Lead also fits perfectly in the 45

lol Bloody hell! Is there anything Fistful of Lead won't stretch to?
-
As you know Vodkafan it is who you play with & not the rules that is the most important.
A nice (i think very nice) set like FFofL or Reb & Pats played with mates is a fun afternoon,
but a perfect set of rules (if there is such a thing) played with:-
Rules Lawyers; Numpties; Time wasters & such
is definitely not fun.
-
One of the Lardies supplements, (summer special 2017) includes rosters and info to do the '45 using Sharp Practice 2. It would seem to be ideally scaled for many of the small actions, and very character driven events of the period.
That's my plan anyway...
-
That will be my approach - Sharp Practice. Used v1 for some ‘45 action before and it worked well. Most of my Jacobites are painted, so in theory it’s the easy bit from now on :)
Mind you, quite tempted by FFoL - they read well, I just need to get some practice games in.
-
Oddly, I have decided for a more formal approach. At first, I wanted to collect two Sharp Practice v2 forces. It looked a logical approach, as the 45 is well suited for skirmish games. Then I realized that the size of the battles was such that even Culloden could be fit in a common wargaming table, and I switched to organize my models into battalions/brigades.
I am using a basing system inspired by the one used by Barry Hilton in Beneath the Lilly Banners, which gives me an approximate ratio of 1:20, with 18 models per unit in 6-figures bases of 60x60mm, which gives me a frontage of 18 cms per unit. In a pinch, I can use it with Honours of War or Black Powder. I know that, technically, either ruleset uses different basing systems than I am using, but after reading both of them I don't think I'll need to make too many adjustments to use them.
Anyway, just a few more pounds to go and George II's lads will be ready to fight the Jacobites!

Like a couple of others I am planning to get soem of these for SP2, I have the rules already and really enjoy them, the 45 will I feel be a great use for the rules so I ahve stuck my pledge in and can see that the goal has been reached already so hopefully soem stretch goals going ot be hit soon.

Iain has uploaded the army lists (with TooFatLardies permission, of course!) for SP2, that appeared in the Summer Special 2017.

Thanks for that, downloaded it and also bought a couple of books, interested to see how best to portray soem of the loyalist troops.
-
Just 4 hours left!
-
I just became backer #100 - I reckon that has to be worthy of note. lol
-
Noted!
I think its a grat kicksarter, justa little short of the Dragoon Command Stratch goal.
-
Hi Everyone
I just want to thank all of you so much for helping to fund this project. We have hit way over the target and unlock two stretch goals.
Unfortunately, we haven't reached the target to unlock the Dragoon command but once the funds have cleared I will be doing my best to see these released. It does take a lot to fund even a simple pack of figures but I like you guys want to see the Command too.
Nick is already working on the figures and I will be keeping you all up to date with the figures as I get updates from him.
Thanks once again :)
Iain

Excited now so I will be harnessing my enthusiasm by painting buildings for the highlands.
-
Good to see some of the greens starting to coming through. Sculptor is working on finishing off the Command and Dragoons.
-
ooh.. very tasty.
-
Looking good Iain :-* :-* :-*
-
Great looking figures :-*
-
Started planning the next phase with Irish Piquets, Jacobite Cavalry, artillery and some dismounted troops. Plenty more to come :)
-
Brilliant news. Keen to see the Bagots Hussars and dismounted Govornment Dragoons.
-
A little preview of the next phase. 3lb Galloper Gun that can be used for both sides.
-
Rather nice too..
-
Ok it's too hard to contain my excitement. Here is a quick preview of the dragoon command for our 1745 Government Troops. I'm so pleased with these and i can confirm that all figures have been completed for the Kickstarter. Once i have them i will get pictures of them all and sent to Griffin for master casting.
-
Brilliant figures. Really looking forward to February!
-
Those look really great. Looking forward to getting them.

I received the masters from Griffin and they are all spot on. These will be going back to Griffin and once all casts have been completed I will start shipping.
I've also had confirmation that work will start on the next phase of sculpting with Irish, Bagotts Hussars, Artillery and new packs to supplement what we already have.

When you get bored making all this wonderful stuff can we have:-
Civilians (Highland/ lowland/ English), Rickety wagons (4 & 2 wheeled), Animals (especially
McMoos, Highland cattle) and bases of supplies (Barrels/sacks/cannon balls with gunpowder etc.)
Wouldn't it be lovely if there were buildings too?
Don't want much do I?

Cheers mate. I hope you are feeling better.

Quite a lot of that is already available. Granted not from me but there is certainly plenty of it around.

Getting there thanks
no lasting effects
-

Yep, McMoos available from Warbases, though those ones look like their summer coat, and in most cases the cattle should be the smaller black cattle or Highland stirk. Lots of the Perry/Foundry AWI civilians would be suitable for 1745, Supreme Littleness do a Culloden Cottage, and battlefield clutter is available from loads of sources if you have no ckils with ball bearings and milliput..
-
Yes guys I do realise other suppliers are available, I even have
some of it myself, but I am really taken with the look & feel of the
Flags of War stuff. I feel that stuff they would produce would 'go
the extra mile'. There is a genuine love for the period. For example,
when the Jacobite army marched past Carlisle it was reported that
it included wagons with cheese & biscuits. That is the kind of thing I want.
-
Baggage always makes a great addition to a game.
Personally I find the Hudson and Allen range is a really good look and fit for the Flags of War range, worth a look if you have no seen them already.
Gripping Beast also do Mcmoo's if you havent seen them yet.
-
Thanks Rogerc.
I do have some Gripping beast McMoos (but some variety would not go amiss)
& I most certainly will have a look at 'Hudson & Allen' (Not heard of them before).
-
H&A unfortunately don't seem to have a UK stockists as far as I know, making them prohibitively expensive for UK purchasers with shipping and import costs.
-
I managed to get hold of H&A buildings a few years ago, I think they’d be very suitable if you can find them:
(https://i.postimg.cc/CLxNXYJR/IMG-1481.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/dDgrZbbF)
All buildings are H&A except the church on the left, which is Grand Manner. Their medieval range contains some very suitable buildings but now only available pre-painted and consequently expensive.
Looking forward to the FoW figures, I might even get to finish my 1745 project :)
-
The H&A buildings are great and they have specific Highland crofts, below is their Inn and a couple of other items.

That whole thread’s a bit inspirational :o

yep, I read it through last night while hot-gluing gravel to MDF. (Don't tell me I don't know how to live the high life.)
The tower is especially nice, and the mix of autumn colours very convincing.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN!!! Him and his brother have a way of making out this stuff is easy but they are liars. They are two seriously talented gamers and will lead you into false pretences. :)

The Hudson and Allen building are awesome. I have a good number of them now and they look great on the table.

My Kickstarter pledge arrived yesterday, and I'm absolutely blown away with the figures.

Thanks for all your hard work Iain. And thanks for all the Kickstarter updates letting us know what's happening. I am very bad at replying to them on Kickstarter but they are appreciated.
-
Yep. Been a very good kickstarter. I do wish I had more cash when it was released, and with other stuff happening, not sure whether I will be able to buy into another, but I'm staying optimistic as the figures are great.
-
Iain I have still been getting the regular updates by email but I have not had anything about a pledge manager?

Iain I have still been getting the regular updates by email but I have not had anything about a pledge manager?
Let me check it for you mate as It was sent months ago to everyone's email. I hadn't seen your name on the list from the pledge manager orders but i do a sweep when they are done to let folk they are still outstanding.
-
Do you know the date it was sent so I can check?
-
I got my email on Tuesday 5th November in the vening if that helps.
-
Thanks Rogerc I found out
just need to work out how to do it?
-
Hey gamer mac, I am pretty technically inept but I found it fairly straight forward just following Iains step by step guide, give it a go and see how you get on.
