Hello again all,
People often ask me how I scratch build my vehicles.
Here is a simple way to scratch build a grav one. It should be easy to follow.
Even if you draw & take measurements , it is a trial & error exercise.
It is not difficult , you just have to imagine the final ( sort of ) shape.
I have also finished the one which I converted from the rogue one cockpit ( previous posts )
The turrets are made from PVC ( like the ones that are used for notice boards )
More pics at the link.
If you have questions just ask

One of these days I'm really going to sit down and figure out your way of etching/embossing (not even sure what the term is) card. When I do it I don't seem to get the variation of shapes and impressions that you do. Beautifully done, as always.
-
That's very impressive. Similarly I'm a bit clumsy/impatient with trying to create anything other than very basic buildings, but that vehicle is excellent especially considering the angles on it!
I've always wondered about creating some dropships in a similar way; thought about scratch building the Mercenary dropship from Elysium as its fairly basic in shape, but easier said than done! lol

Very nice work :-* :-* :-*

Thanks for posting this. Not very handy with tools, but this looks like something I might be able to make work.
I'm just getting back into 15mm, thinking of using Star Grunt II for the ruleset.

That is a great build very nice work!

Impressice scratch-building, Zrune. I want to see some paint now!

Those are very nice. :-*

Great looking builds
:)

Thanks all, glad you like them.
Cook where I come from we say that tools are half the work, so chose them well.Apart from that what I suggest is to use card spacers between the parts, the thicker the card the better the pressure & texture indentation. Rem not all card is created equal. Some is good others no.
Brummie you mean something like this?

Those really come together when painted. Nice. :-*
-
Those are very nice indeed, they have that "Renegade Legion" look to them very nicely done.
-
Thanks you,
Come to think of it , yes, they do look like renegade legion vehicles but wider.
I like wider vehicles because they look better size wise next to 15/18mm minis.
I have the Renegade legion box & I think there are vehicle plans in the rule books.
Worth taking a look ... and build more.
Will keep you posted.

Looking forward to them, again great work. I have always liked Renegade Legion but I could never find anything in 15mm range that would look right. :?
Now I have an idea and which way to go, Thanks.

These are 2 resin Grav vehicles ( minus their turrets) which I bought from LordNth in 2013 , here they are for comparison.
Excellent models if a bit narrow for 15mm but they would be great for 10mm.
Together with these I got a Highlander ( suitable for 15mm)& a Bushwhacker mechs ( suitable for 10mm) .
If you can find any of his mecha ( I can't find any at the present ) & I don't know whether he still makes them , get them as they are super.
Will build & post eventually.

Okay those look really good, I can see what you mean as to being too narrow, it does give me some ideas as how one could make them wider.
-
Sawing them in half length wisr would be one way , like I did with the plastic scimitar & saladin but I would be accused of heresy ;). :D
It would take more time, being resin but do able.
Then doing pvc & card spacers .

Well the ones you have constructed really fit the bill for me and your construction method for them is great.
