The Perry miniatures are excellent AWI, along with the ones they did for Foundry, the best available IMHO.
However, they are AWI, taking in the radical changes of King's Regulations through 1763 on. Therefore there are a lot of other changes since the FIW other than the belly box you'd like (a bit like using WWII Brits and calling them WWI I suppose) but if you don't mind those differences, go ahead.

I'll be boing some British regulars for my range:

but they're not available yet  :'( maybe you could wait, but you sound keen to be on with the project.
So, it depends on your priorities, the Perry AWI are lovely, but not FIW, there are other manufacturers out there making FIW Brits. As a manufacturer, I think it would be wrong mentioning some without mentioning all, and I'd be bound to miss someone out. No doubt some of the guys will be better able to make recommendations.

The belly box was not standard issue anyway. IIRC it held about half (edit for idiocy)the number of cartridges of the normal one and was only used by artillery guards.

Conquest has the greens done for his regulars, so I would wait for either him or the Major to release them (that is what I am doing anyway). In the mean time you can paint up more Indians, settlers, Frenchers, or even some of the great provincials and highlanders from Eureka.  ;)

I believe that the Conquest British and French regulars have been put on indefinate hold due to some casting issues.  At least that was the last I had heard of them.  Perhaps Eric will see this post and give us an update?

Grimm just told me about some nice Seven Years war British Regulars done by Crusader Miniatures.  They look pretty nice and he mentioned that they fit in nicely size wise with Perry and Conquest.  Here is a link:

Old Glory and Redoubt also do British and French regulars.  I own the Old Glory figures and would use these as a last resort...  I would prefer to have some nice regulars done by Galloping Major or Conquest.  Hint hint... ::) lol

I love Crusader miniatures and have a lot of them in my collection. That said, I personally do not think they mesh well stylistically or size-wise with the Perry/Conquest "scale" figures. I'm not saying Grimm is wrong, but anyone with more delicate sensibilities (read: anal-retentive size-ists  ;)) might want to try a sample pack first.

I have about 50 painted Old Glory Brits in my F&I collection. They match better size-wise IMO, but they are older sculpts and many will not like them.

Slightly off topic but I have a bench mounted sander in my workshop. I like my figure's bases as small as possible so I don't have to build up the basing material. I fire up the sander, touch the figure to the belt and a second or so later, a base as thin as I want it. I bought my sander at Harbor Freight tools for $50 and use it for all kinds of other landscaping and building projects as well.

Oh, and lest I forget, buy a pair of safety goggles as well. Let's just say that you'll appreciate having them on when you sand...

Now

How do the Redoubt indians compare?

I know the newer stuff is very chunky, but the first releases of the Indians are really rather nice.
