Title: Adventures in GNW
Post by: abu iskander on September 02, 2019, 07:02:35 PM
Started work in earnest on a GNW project. Had originally thought to do this 18mm, but have had a change in my thinking since working in 6mm on SYW for several months now.  So, as if I need another project, I'm embarking on something similar for this period.

With this diagram as my guide, I've planned a somewhat scaled down template for my Swedish BNs.

Two formations to choose from -- I've settled on the deeper line for the sake of table space. The colored blocks represent strips or fraction thereof of Baccus figures, for budgeting/planning purposes.

While progress is being made on the infantry, I couldn't resist painting a stand (SQN) off the Saxon/Polish Winged Hussars -- some of my favorite troops ever to take the field.  In large part, the relative ease of representing them in the large formations in 6mm on the tabletop drove my decision to do the project in this scale.

More to follow!

Looks great! I cannot wait to see more of your inspirational 6mm figures. What program do you use to plan out your bases?

Thanks guys.

LS - I used Keynote, basically the Apple version of PowerPoint, for making slide preentations. Just happens to be the software on my laptop.  You could use a bunch of different things like Visio I'm as well. Hope that's helpful -- happy planning and painting.

Away from the painting desk for awhile, so needed to get back into the groove. Did some test figures for GNW Saxons.  I may even like painting these more than the Baccus SYW. Intending to stay focused on Fred and the boys, but will continue to work on these and the Swedes when the mood strikes me.

Thanks gentlemen, shooting for completing a basic build, using With Talon and Claw as a reference, of both the Saxon/Poles and Swedes by Christmas.

FwdMarch -- thanks for the compliment.  I'm quite taken by some of your map tables. Very cool stuff. I never imagined I'd enjoy 6mm, not to mention even considering 2mm, but your renderings are compelling. I see myself subscribing to your library in the future.

Second of twelve stands of Swedish foot for the Talon and Claw list I'm using as my basis for the build.

My 6mm efforts have not been completely unproductive whilst I've been plugging away at the SP2 guys. Total Battle Miniatures small Russian village below. A real pleasure to paint.
