Title: Victrix Germanic Warriors
Post by: Suetonius Paullinus on September 12, 2019, 10:07:51 PM
New from Victrix.
Here the first two of the tribe. I love the looted Roman armour/ helmets.

Yes, agreed. They capture a very specific 'wouldn't want to be Varus' sort of feel.

Beautiful.  So much so that I have just gone straight to the Victrix website and ordered a pack!

Nice painting on nice figs.  I don't suppose you could show them side by side with some of their Gauls you painted?

Good for Batavian revolt?

Surprised by the inclusion of looted Roman equipment, thought that would be a great kitbashing opportunity, but not something to include in the actual set (especially given limited timeframes for the armour in question, while the rest of the Germanics are arguably quite flexible given relatively scarce information).

Anywho, great painting as always!

Certainly made me interested in grabbing a set once I get some other things finished (too many figures in those Victrix boxes!). Could combine well with the plastic Celtic cavalry too. Looks like a nice array of head options, shouldn't be difficult to build a bunch without using those topknot-ponytails sculptors seem to love, but an actual warrior probably would not...

Yes, agreed. They capture a very specific 'wouldn't want to be Varus' sort of feel.

It's the wrong armour for the Teutoburger Wald. Varus would be turning in his grave, if he had one.

Just to clarify..out of the 60 odd figures 4 have looted Roman EIR armour.
And also very few top knots.
I might have given the wrong impression here by starting with the command sprue with the special parts. I’ll get some rank and file Germans in as soon as I can!
They are very nicely compatible with the Gauls and Romans so there’s a fair bit of room for conversions. I’m actually gonna use some parts for my Vikings  8)

Cheers

Now that's a nice hairstyle.  ;)
Glad to see he's wearing trousers too, from the sprue pics I thought it was just a bit of fur; this is much better.

Could these heads be put on say, the GB dark age warriors to make somewhat correct early Franks?

Does anyone know if Victrix plans on releasing a box of Germanic cavalry?  I thought I saw this somewhere but can't find anything online.

Thanks!

To quote Varus immediately pre-suicide: Mea culpa. I have now found that, contrary to my belief, the lorica segmentata was indeed worn by some legionaries at this time. Note to self: keep up to date with research, or at least not assume information gleaned years  or decades ago is still valid.
