I am not sure if this was the place to post this but I seen an advert on the BBC for a new series based on the golden compass, looked quite good "His Dark Materials"
HBO with James McAvoy among other familiar faces
-
Let’s hope it’s better than the film :?
-
The Beeb have some decent stuff coming, War of the Worlds, a new Dracula production and this. :)
-
I saw a gif of the battle on the beach from the new WotW and it looked rather bloody good.

Sunday 17 November at 2100, right after HDM.
Three parts.
-
I've seen the new WotW and I have to say after a promising start it went down hill very fast. While it's set in the correct period it is very much 'inspired by' rather than a faithful adaptation of the book.
-
Just watched the 2nd part of HDM (the first part left me seriously underwhelmed) and, IMO, its not improving . . . .
-
Just seen second HDM and thought it was pretty good. Still early days though.
-
Watched both episodes of HDM and enjoying it so far. :)
I've not read the books so have no point of reference but I saw the film when it came out a few years ago, but can't remember much about it apart from the giant polar bear and the cowboy. ::)
-
I thought the film was okay but it made sense to me because I had read the books. I thought it didn’t explain clearly the ideas of parallel worlds and daemons so without knowing the books it may not have made sense to some.
-
HDM to me was like watching a Harry potter film, didn’t enjoy it, as for WOTW it’s got some nice effects but it really dragged its ass along in the first episode!!!

Definitely think WOTW shows more promise than HDM, which still isn't doing anything much for me despite persevering with it.

I'll start watching HDM soon but I rather enjoyed WotW and am looking forward to the next episode :)

War of the worlds... Boring, boring, BORING!
Should have been named 'Living in sin in Edwardian Britain' as that was what
most of the screen time was wasted on. Interesting to some no doubt, but not
a War of the Worlds.
Irritating things? To list a few:-
Stopping a galloping horse VERY easily, calming it down in a few seconds,
mounting it then heading back towards whatever terrified it.
Setting off for safety (on the now calm horse) but stopping to try & pick up the
dog, having abandoned their maid with a less emotional, 'leave her she's dead'
Stick in a weird flash forward some years to a desolate Britain.
The main character spent most of his screen time impersonating a startled fish
out of water.
For this they used up one third of the series.
-
I've watched two episodes of HDM and that's rather enjoyable as well :)

Another lost opportunity.
Dull and without merit except for the reverse Dynamo bit last week.
His Dark Materials on the other hand is excellent so far. Not sure if this series will include the body of The Subtle Knife or whether that will be in the next series.

Amen.
Never read the HDM books but I'm thoroughly enjoying it (and I freely confess to having a thing about Ruth Wilson)
WotW was dull as ditch water.

I thought the first two episodes of WotW were fine, this last one though missed the mark by quite a bit.
Will catch up with HDM later in the week but have enjoyed what I've seen so far.

You're not the only one, there's something about Ruth...! :-*
And HDM is excellent, I haven't read the books either and am thoroughly enjoying it. The bizarre thing is I saw the film they did a few years back and can't remember any of it apart from the Polar bear!
