Title: Agis painted HATE (and AoS) minis - Grashrak’s Despoilers
Post by: Agis on October 13, 2019, 11:16:32 AM
Agis painted HATE minis

Based on the "Chronicles of HATE" graphic novel by acclaimed artist Adrian Smith, HATE is a board game of brutal combat and conquest in a desolate world of savage warriors. Created by the same design team who brought you the Zombicide series, under the supervision of Eric Lang, HATE combines the gruesome artwork of Adrian Smith with exquisitely sculpted miniatures to immerse you in a universe of cruel survival by any means.”

I really like the very unique comic so I had to support the KS. Having to many other projects I just started now to paint some minis. Above is the main “hero” Worm and a Sarassa warrior plus some trees of the KS.

Worm
In HATEs background, Mother Earth is defiled and is bound beneath the ground; humanity falls from any grace it may have had. Men enslave other men, and a brutal Tyrant rules over many. Mother Earth's spirit engages Worm, the protagonist, who is tasked to free her or bring back her power somehow. The comic follows Worm, a creature “bred for meat,” who stops at nothing to free the Earth Mother by gaining help from unlikely allies and sorcery.

The Tribe of Sarassa
"Not all that grew still lived. The spreading rot bore many abominations, among them the Garric, those parodies of life. They consumed, grew, and survived, yet did not die, save by the blade or fire. They alone captured their stock still living and drank their souls. Insatiable. Mindless. Horrific. Undying horrors in a dying world.
This cursed tribe are not really alive, so bringing them down is nigh impossible. By branch and root, the members of the Tribe of Sarrassa utilize the little of nature that still resists in the Wastes to surprise their opponents with terrible surprise attacks. While undead, the Garrics are a doomed people, so their opponent's best hope is to just outlast them in the battlefield."

Fantastic painting as always. Thanks for sharing.
I'm surprised you started with Wurm rather than some of the big guys! (I just started in on one of mine yesterday)
The Sarrassa guy is very well executed, but I feel the model came out too bright and green. He almost looks like a good guy forest spirit type guy. Again, the execution is great and better than I can do, but the end result feels a little off stylistically. I feel he could benefit from some more dark browns and grays, but that may just be me projecting how I hope to paint mine.
Thanks for sharing, I can't wait to see more!

Perfect, goal reached, I am planning to use the Sarassa plant zombie also in a Sylvaneth army as an evil tree spirit, so your observation is spot on and makes me very happy.

Well that is too funny! He indeed looks like he could fit right into a Sylvaneth army. I'm looking forward to seeing more. I forgot to mention that the trees also turned out great.

I planned right from the start to also include the HATE minis in other projects.
Eventually some HATE minis will join forces with Warhammer. IMO the Sarassa would work fine as Spite revenants in a Sylvaneth army. To give you an idea see the pic above.

And the first two Beastgrave minis:

After hearing a lot of good things about Warhammer Underworlds I decided to give Beastgrave a try.
1st game is still open, but the minis ARE good.

As mentioned above, from the HATE KS.

Really lovely work here, I got the Sarassa warband to blend in somehow with my Forest kin types, I don't really play games so it's all about the collecting and the ideas in my head rather than any need to fit with any game system lol.

The above mini is from the Dreadfane box - Brodus Blightbane. After listening to some of the AoS Gotrek novels I decided that I finally want to paint a Stormcast Eternal.
I am still not totally at ease with the mini design, the shoulder pads remind me too much of 80s Warzone minis.

Anyway, I chose a darker look to also use him as a stand-in for Trachos the companion of Gortrek.
Inspired by the great work here: Blasphemia's Dark Age of Sigmar (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=116425.0)

Great work as usual mate. Not only are you technically proficient but your color palette really suits my personal taste. In fact, you have a way of getting me to like figures that I originally did not like the sculpt of.

Thanks, and that is exactly what happened to me when watching Blasphemia's Dark Age of Sigmar thtead!

I always thought since I first saw Age of Sigmar designs that GW was trying to emulate Target Games' Chronopia.

Darn, painting the 1st Stormcast was fun.
I also discovered this indredible good Blog: http://gardensofhecate.blogspot.com/
The more I read it, the more I got interested in the AoS setting with a darker twist.

Anyway, since I also wanted a more suitable companion for Gotrek, I bought the Lord-Ordinator Vorrus Starstrike mini.
Trachos is a Lord-Ordinator of the Celestial Vindicators left broken and traumatized after several perils in Shyish. So the Vorrus mini should do it.
Considering his background I painted him a bit more gaunt and haunted. Hopefully it worked.

Title: Re: Agis painted HATE (and AoS) minis - IRONSOUL’S CONDEMNORS
Post by: Agis on June 28, 2020, 10:44:53 AM

Gwynne Ironsoul is a formidable agent of the Sacrosanct Chambers. Ironsoul and her companions – Tavian of Sarnassus and the redoubtable Brodus Blightbane – are Sequitors of the Hammers of Sigmar, first and most storied of the God-King Sigmar’s Stormhosts.
These specialists channel the magical tempest of Azyr through their weapons. They are trained to battle the ethereal and the daemonic, but after straying within the bounds of the Dreadfane, even they may have found their match. They long sought a way to shatter its mechanisms and free themselves from its cruel grasp, and believed their quest successful when they finally set foot in the blood-soaked caverns of Ghur. Alas, Beastgrave would soon prove to be just another trap…

Gwynne Ironsoul right out of the Dreadfane box. I am really starting to like the aesthetics of Age of Sigmar, I dislike it for years, but these minis starting to grow on me. Maybe my more muted colour scheme is also helping...

And Tavian of Sarnassus from the Dreadfane box. Same colours, slightly battle damaged. I still did not like the HUGE shoulder pads, but the rest becomes more and more likeable.

Wurmspat - Brought to Beastgrave by a vast wyrmaggot, The Wurmspat are a warband of Nurgle Rotbringers who seek to reverse the Katophrane Curse, seeing it as anathema to Nurgle’s endless cycle of death and rebirth.
Unfortunately for Beastgrave’s other inhabitants, they’re going about their holy work by spreading as much filth as possible…
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/Wurmspat_Sepsimus_1.jpg)

Sepsimus, Plaguesworn trades Ghulgoch’s reliability for some always-welcome range, making him a decent threat that’s great for picking off enemy fighters that dare to flee from Nurgle’s love.
The mini is a small conversion, I used the head and left arm of two HATE Tribe of Sarrassa minis as shown below.
The idea is a Nurgle warrior who spend too much time in the Beastgrave and gets overgrown by plants.

I always thought since I first saw Age of Sigmar designs that GW was trying to emulate Target Games' Chronopia.

That was also my impression, but then Chronopia was Warzone turned into a Heavy Metal Fantasy. ;)

@Agis: Those Hate minis really fit in very well with modern GW stuff. Great conversions!

A Gryph Hound Staue from the Warcry Ravaged Lands box.
I liked the Sphinx like model right from the start! :)

And below is the Nurgelish cat familiar of Fecula. I found the little fella too “cute” to have it simply as a base accessory on Feculas base!

The Wurmspat is finished!

My first Nurgle minis. I despised Nurgle minis for over 20 years - and still it was great fun to convert and paint these!

The background of the Wurmspat is really funny IMO. Fecula was far away from the Beastgrave but was plagued by vision of a place where entropy was undone!
Heresy in the eyes of every faithful Nurgle worshipper.
Accidentally she summoned a wyrmmaggot that swallowed her and two body guards whole.
The creature burrowed onward to the Beastgrave and spat the three Nurgle warriors out.

The idea behind the conversion is that Feculas little warband gets influenced by the Beastgrave after some time. That the all too powerful life magic takes root in them and started grow plants.
All in all a very nice, small and rewarding project.
I am now looking forward to my 1st Underworld game!

Ghulgoch the Butcher is big, tough and very choppy – just as you’d expect a Putrid Blightking to be!

I replaced her head with a base accesory from the Dryad kit.

More Underworld goodness...

Thundrik’s Profiteers - Bjorgen Thundrik and his crew of skyfarers were not the first among the Kharadron Overlords to search for Shadespire. The whispered rumours of the Katophranes’ treasures had reached many sky-ports, but those expeditions that were sent either returned empty-handed or did not return at all. With a hardy crew and a magnificent skyvessel at his command, Thundrik set out to achieve what all others had failed to do.

After reading the Drekki Flynt novel - The Arkanauts Oath I suddenly started to like Duardin...  :)
