Title: Ill Met by Moonlight close-ups
Post by: Plynkes on July 06, 2009, 04:14:25 PM
I seem to remember that somebody, I have a feeling it was Argsilverson, asked if I'd post some close-ups from this entry from the LPL once the match was over:

Well, I'm more than happy to oblige, but I sometimes think getting in too close is not a good idea with my often-sloppy painting style. They're meant to be observed at a slight distance, like impressionist paintings.  :)

But anyway, here we go:

Oberon, trying to look as menacing and 'street' as one possibly can while bearing the title 'King of the Fairies.'

Titania demonstrating the Elizabethan/Jacobean version of Talk to the Hand while appearing on Ye Jeremie Kyle Showe at the Globe theatre.
(Annoyingly, the camera has bleached out the highlights and shadows on the faces of the little teeny fairy handmaidens there. They are much more noticeable to the naked eye.  :-[)

Nudie nymphs and Indian Prince (I'm not sure if Indian Princes were in the habit of going about in their swimming trunks like that, but it was the only figure I had who looked like an obviously Indian child. I'm assuming the three of them have just come back from the beach). That lipstick looks a bit messy in extreme closeup. Told you!  :)

Rear view. Puts one in mind of Shakespeare's sonnet No. 155. How does it go again?

So, ladies! (Yeah!) Ladies! (Yeah)
If you wanna roll in my Mercedes (Yeah!)
Then turn around! Stick it out!
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back!

Mischievous-looking pixies, who also seem to have forgotten to get dressed today.

Some fairies. Let's call them Peaseblossom, Cobweb and Mustardseed.

Cheers. Hope that'll do. Must say again, this was my favourite entry to paint. Maybe it was just the change from my normal drab historicals, but I really had a blast painting this entry. But for some reason it was a nightmare to photograph. No matter what I did the light bleached out all the details. In the end the pictures were taken in a pretty much completely dark room (all curtains drawn and no lights) on an exposure of about thirty seconds. It was the only way I could get half-decent shots.  ???

Absolutely stunning, Plynkes.  :-* Bit of a departure from your usual stuff, which I think makes it all the more effective.

But... which one is supposed to be Dirk Bogarde...?  ???

Well done, Plynkes...

I'm sure you've already said somewhere, and I've missed it, but which manufacturer? They look to crisp to be Foundry.

All Foundry except the Indian lad, who is from Eureka.  :)

Jollybob, I was wondering if anybody would reference that. Ten points, that man. I love the old classic B&W British war films.  The answer of course is that any of them could be him: Behind the matinée idol façade I hear he was a huge fairy.  ;)

Thanks for the close ups.
Again is marvellous!
Thanks for the eye candy pictures.

Now what?
Will you add audience or film crew and those small baby centaurslike in Fantasia's pastoral theme!
