Title: Rise of Skywalker trailer three
Post by: OSHIROmodels on October 22, 2019, 03:04:16 AM
Is here  :D

 https://youtu.be/Y4wYvmYeoLo (https://youtu.be/Y4wYvmYeoLo)

Lots of ships!  :D

Oh, and keep all the political/Disney bashing bollocks out of it. This is just for the trailer and gaming inspiration.

Ha! You're not the boss of me, Jim!

But actually, I don't have anything to say along those lines. Oh well...

Two comments.

- Was that Palpatine's voice?
- They should have come up with a better hashtag than "Star War Suk"

I think it was palpatine. It looks like him near the end of the trailer. I kind of wish I hadn't seen it to be honest as it seems to give away a lot of plot points.

I saw it once, first thing I did when I woke up this morning, while I was still half asleep, liked what I saw but I've already forgotten most of it  ;)
Think I'm good untill I see the actual movie though.

I think it looks great, can't wait to see it, the scenes of the rebel fleet looks spectacular ;D

Regarding plot points and giveaways, they are very good at cutting scenes for trailers to suggest events may take one turn, but they often go in a completely different direction...

Roll on the 19th Dec :)

Did I spot the Ghost from Rebels in the Resistance fleet?

Yup, there’s also a Clone Wars droid behind C3P0 on the right.

I'll confess I was left cold by it; I don't think it looks anywhere near as intriguing as The Mandalorian (now that was a trailer ...).

To be fair, Palatine has been in all of the trailers so far.

But also there is Luke's voice.

I'm excited by it.

The Mandalorian is to be a TV series, so it'll be on some Disney Star Wars channel I guess.

Yeah, it's not exactly a surprise.  I'm honestly baffled by the amount of fan hate/shock/horror at the idea, when Palpatine coming back for the finale of the main story is probably the most faithful thing we've seen out of the franchise since Lucas bailed.  This series is a pulp-style space opera serial at heart.  Having the apparently-dead Big Bad Mastermind reappear for a final defeat is tradition.  Also, his death is pretty much a checklist of Evil Overlord (Un)Certain Death tropes.  Died by falling a long way when betrayed by a henchman, followed by an explosion (two, if you count the DSII going up later), mostly off-camera, and with no body found afterward.  The guy couldn't have been more obviously Not Dead by genre rules if he'd been shown climbing out of a smoking crater at the bottom of the shaft waving a little Wile E. Coyote sign saying "I'm Not Dead Yet!" while cackling maniacally.

Yeah, it's the big draw for their new streaming service - so locked behind a subscription paywall.  So it's either skip it, pirate it, or pay the Mouse.  I'm not doing the latter, personally.

I’ve had a nerdy closer look at the ‘resistance fleet’ and there’s quite a few ships there that don’t make sense. The Ghost is there of course which is technically fine but the Profundity is there (Admiral Radius’ ship). There’s a couple of Neb-b’s (although they have a different configuration to each other), a U-wing, an Mandalorian ship from Rebels. There’s Solo’s freighter from TFA plus other, almost recognisable ships.

I’m wondering if it’s a mothballed fleet the same as the Star Destroyers and only a few of them manage to get crew on them for the final fight?

The only thing that I’m not sure of are the ‘horses’...

by all means, please enlighten me!

We are on movie #3 of a trilogy and I still have no idea what this story is supposed to be about and, so far as I can tell, whoever made this trailer has no interest in letting me know (possibly because they're worried I would not buy tickets if I actually found out).

Are we sure those SDs are from a mothballed fleet?

I mean, that would make a lot of sense given Mon Mothma's insistence on demilitarization (nothing of which is explained at all in either of the two films so far in this trilogy) but I am wondering if you're saying "same as the Star Destroyers" because somebody at Lucasfilm or some novel or comic or whatever has spelled out that this is indeed what is going on.

I'm still underwhelmed.  There is no sense of getting back to it's roots either in plot or in style.  Last Jedi and Force Awakens are poor films at best, and this seems to be more of the same.

I have little stomach for the millennial Jedi films.

I thought it was a Star Destroyer on a planet, rising from the water? Still, horses aren't weird enough to ride in Star Wars  lol

This will be the first Star Wars I haven't seen in a theater (and will only see it afterward if someone happens to be renting it while I'm visiting).  I'm just tired of Disney's garbage.

I'll still go see it at the cinema, my dad until he's become to unwell to go always took me/went with me to see them, now I take my ex's son (I see him as my son) and carry on the tradition. The film like the previous ones will probably be not brilliant, but certainly entertaining enough and still add some more ideas to gaming in the Star Wars setting. I'd love some of those rebel cavalry for Legion!  ;D  (plus its rare time spent with my son now he's a working 25yr old)

Its a minor political footnote to explain how the republic can be sucker punched by the New Order, effectively a plot device for the badguys to actually be a threat. I suspect in the books they'd explain it.

They may have ripped an idea from the now defunct Heir to the Empire stories. In them there was a lost fleet of Dreadnaughts(not Star Destroyers) that had AI to control the ships. They got lost on one of their test voyages never to be found.....until, that is, Grand Admiral Thrawn gets his hands on them.

I don't understand this at all.

It seems to me that the FO sucker punched the Republic in Episode 7 by destroying the Republic fleet and the various Republic capital worlds (apparently they had a rotating capital system) with the Starkiller Base. Of course, none of this was actually explained in the film itself but based on comics and/or novels, it seems that Mon Mothma insisted that the triumphant New Republic as well as the defeated Galactic Empire disarm in the wake of the Galactic Civil War. So the Republic fleet we saw get annihilated in The Force Awakens was effectively the Republic's entire military. And Starkiller Base also annihilated the political infrastructure of the Republic at the same time. So, effectively, the Republic ceased to exist as a state during Episode 7.

So what does anything about Episode 9 have to do with sucker punching the currently defunct Republic?

It would be nice if these damn movies actually explained anything rather than "inviting" the audience to buy a plethora of poorly conceived and executed novels and comics, among other products.

Is any of the explanation necessary to enjoy lasers, starships and aliens? I don't think I'm a simpleton, but these are just movies, right? They are fun, stuff happens that makes you smile now and again, you have a few moments to say "that was cool when the thing happened..." to your wife/kids/buddies. Am I missing something?   ;)

But the most important question is still ... who are Rey's parents?  I refuse to believe the one off 'they were nobody' line.

Not unless you tried to follow the plot or understand the setting. Generally, people who actually like sci fi movies don't argue that they're just dumb, meaningless special effects reels. Except with these new Star Wars movies, I guess?

Personally, I'm not ready to concede that sci fi movies should just be video game cut scenes.

But the most important question is still ... who are Rey's parents?  I refuse to believe the one off 'they were nobody' line.
I doubt Kylo Ren would have any information about Rey's parents if they were in fact nameless junkies. His insistence to her that there were nobodies probably has more to do with him suggesting that they are not important to her identity than being a literal reveal that as a matter of absolute fact that her parentage will never matter to the story.

Generally, people who actually like sci fi movies don't argue that they're just dumb, meaningless special effects reels.

Nah, man. I'm just in it to sit and be happy for a bit. There are enough real things in life that demand my anxiety and angst. An $8 movie can be something that I enjoy for what it is.

Want to know how far my willingness to smell the roses and accept movies for what they are will go? I liked all the Transformer movies!  lol Dude, the 8 year old me that imagined all those giant transforming robot battles while playing with an Optimus Prime (missing an arm) in my bedroom (not a euphemism) LOVED that stuff! Nothing dumb about it. Transformer toys were never meant to be high art, and the movie played out about like my kid brain. Plot? Who cares. Lasers? PEW PEW! Optimus missing an arm?!!? EXACTLY LIKE MINE!!!  :o

Star Wars could only be made better if all of the actors were forced to only articulate their bodies at the shoulder and hip as they moved around. You know, and add lasers and a plot my 8 year old brain can enjoy and I'm going to have a good time. Horses on a Star Destroyer? I can get behind that. When all you have is a Playskool horse and a Luke Skywalker with his retractable lightsaber broken off so it looks like he is holding a flashlight, you just make it work as a kid. It's fun, you roll with it. Movies don't need to be more than that. Have fun, push the "I believe" button, gaze in wonder as real life takes a back seat for a bit.

I don't begrudge you your happiness.

But surely you would not enjoy the bright lights and loud noises any less if there were in addition some coherent exposition, plot, and story.
