Wanted to do a Roman army for donks. Saw peeps getting stunning results with Victrix plastics and, despite an awful lot of reservations, thought I'd give them a go after being given a couple of cavalry sprues.
Not going mad with these, bish bosh simple PJs to get them on the table.
Still not convinced by plastics - prep and assembly time is ridiculous compared to well cast metals and sneeze and they'll go flying.
So, here's the first of a few or a lot (or a one off if I lose the will to live sticking them together and bin them).....

Well I reckon that looks ace.. and it would be a shame if he ended up being all alone - obviously needs the rest of his friends along...
-
I really hope you keep going with the plastics as this first one is a real beauty :)
-
It is beautifully painted. 8)
I do get the impression that he's shouting "I'm gonna fall orf me 'orse!" as he barrels along, mind...

Very nice!

No roman fights alone... :D
-

EIR = Excellence in Romans ;-)
Beautifully done!

Quit your whinging and get on with the rest of them. ;)
Any plans for rules yet or is that too far advanced for you.

I can see it now, a 10 man cavalry patrol escorting one wagon, & then
they get ambushed (as they cross a stream?)...
Please do it & post the pictures.
-
Looks fantastic.. of course, no Roman was ever comfortable on a horse. :)
Look forward to seeing the rest.

Top job! No reservations there.

Cavalry was almost all Auxiliary, so odds are this guy wouldn't have been from Rome proper, but rather one of the provinces and from a culture that held horsemanship rather higher than the italic peoples did.
also between the four horned saddle and the gripping pressure of the knees, falling off would not be terribly common. sadly miniatures companies can't model the leg posture right and keep the minis easy to assemble, and they usually skimp on the saddle detail..

: :-* lovely work, look forward to seeing more...agree re the time for prep with plastics but IMHO the results are well worth the effort...magnets in the base = sneeze proof ;)

I have sometimes wondered if casting the horse and bottom half of the rider as a single piece and the top half of the rider as separate would work?
Nice painting as always Jon and metal washers for the base will solve your sneezing problem. Better than Lemsip :)
