Title: Digits Sci Fi ...kit bashed APCs and Hab Tents
Post by: Digits on December 05, 2019, 06:34:47 PM
Some know me from Ammobunker where for a number of years I spent a lot of time converting 40k armies, mostly guard themed including Skeleton Guard, and my beloved Drogans.  Much as I loved it, these day’s I don’t get to play so the interest has waned.....for now.....

However, I will get an opportunity to meet new gaming folk next week playing a smaller scale sci fi game (I do t know the rules so should be fun) and I have been asked to provide a team.  I could did in my 40k collection but that’s probably not the done thing.....so I find myself needing to paint some figures!

So, I will use this spot to pop up pictures to motivate myself to .....paint!

Pics soon....

Digits,
I think has.beens idea is to use Galactic Hero rules for the game next week.
They are good fun rules from the Fist full of lead stable.
Looking forward to the game.

Me too.  Yes they are rules I’ve not come across so looking forward to it.

Also enjoying painting me “heroes”!  ;)

Hey Easy, how are you doing fella?

Love that pic!

Nice looking troops, liquid tanks (one cracked and something's escaped - no doubt what the troops are hunting now), neat tower, and great looking floor grating.

Any hints on who makes the latter floor tiles?

Looking forward to seeing you and your heroes next week.
Galactic Heroes is a nice & simple system. People seem to
pick it up very quickly, and more importantly, have fun.

That’s what it’s ALL about fella!

Mako, the picture was from our “Best participation game” table at Gamesday a few years ago now, with kill teams roaming a crashed Necron ship.  The tiles in the foreground are Hirst Arts mould cast in dental powder.

Red.....the colour of the Inquisition.......not the most subtle colour to dodge bullets in.

Meet “Da Loights - Planetary Auditors”

Maybe not the combat team you’d expect to be engaged with the scum and villainy of the universe, but when Planetary Overlords feel they’ve been stiffed by their ungrateful underlings, avoiding their taxes and tithes, then these are the fellows they call in to investigate.

From left to right “Ferret”, “Countdown”, “PG”, “Tiny” and “Numbers”

And from behind, nice tight glutes.

“Ferret” - so called because nothing misses his steely gaze, he can spot financial irregularities at 100 metricals.........and besides, he looks like one.  He is first aid trained.

“Countdown” - when the team are in downtime, there is nothing they like to do better than watch antique vid plates of Old Earth quiz shows.  The boys all agree she is hotter than Vorderman or Riley! Locker room scuttlebutt has it her father was an Android - she has a brain with the computing power of a small battle cruiser!

“PG” - the boss, so called as he is never seen without a cuppa in his hand (of course, he’s a lead miniature, he will ALWAYS have a cuppa in his hand!  No nonsense type, his word is final.....he’s seen it all, done it all, carries the scars and is paying alimony to at least four ex wives, including a two headed Mlduvian beauty he left when he realised he had to deal with twice the angst!

”Tiny” - Most believe that he’s named ironically being a tall brute of a man....fact is, the others have seen him in the shower......he really needs to stop pumping the steroids!  Still, great guy to have in a fist fight.....he’s as tough as old grunthar scrotum!

“Numbers” - Quietly spoken, this guy is a killer.  Many a tax dodger has pulled a gun on him, only for him to have drawn with lightning reflex and fired with unerring
accuracy, planting las shots squarely between their eyes / antennae / feelers ....
The name refers to the number of kills he is amassing, each entered meticulously into his data slate.  One day, he intends to publish his autobiography, detailing his life as an accountant and he wants to be able to recount every altercation.  When The boss is topside or attending another divorce settlement hearing, this chap steps up, effectively no 2.

There is no long range capability within the group, they are however all handy with their snub nosed las pistols.  Don’t underestimate them.

Peter, I may need you to re work their skill set accordingly.....ta fella.

Ha! My crew consider themselves Free Traders. That is, free from petifoggery and bureaucratic rules and regulations. Why worry about Taxes! What the Accountants never know about can't hurt them....

Remember....on these worlds, nothing is as certain as death and taxes!

If you don’t want to pay up.....the other awaits you.

Must get some of that stuff one day.

Very disappointing!  I ordered a little fighting robot “Walter Warbot” from Diehard Miniatures for this weekends game as a fall back figure.  He has arrived...without his head!

The accountants are on their own.....

Robots don't need heads!

Hmmmm....looks bolloxed without it mate!  :(

Anyway, looking forward to meeting the chaps on Sunday.  If I have to spend the day dodging long range fire in order to get close enough to use my pistols, have at it!

Yes...Saturn Five especially?  Tbh, if I could find my bitsbox, I’ve lots of heads, including mechanicus ones....but I can’t because it’s at the bottom of my garage!

Well the accountants obviously ordered the robot with 10% off!

I too am looking forward to Sunday. I have done your new stats,
but for all that it will mean to you (without the rules) I might as well
wait to explain it on Sunday.

I’m sure the guys will be posting a thread with pics from th3 game but really enjoyed playing and meeting all, thanks!

The accountants never came close to fulfilling any objectives but did end up in vicious little firefight and acquitted themselves reasonably.

Oh, and as discussed, here’s a link to some of my 40k stuff of old.

Cheers, I made two and often wish I’d done a cast of those....would have been quite easy too.

One vehicle I did invent and cast up numerous times was this one,  the BOAR, painted by Ash here.

Useful as an artillery tractor, especially as GW don’t produce any logistics vehicles.

I mentioned these tents in another thread, and I’ve been asked how they were constructed.

Fairly easy.

Take half a Pringles tube, make a couple of false ends from card.  In my case I wanted it look sci-fi so I added door and filters etc.  Glue over string at regular intervals.   Then simply wrap the whole thing in a good quality tissue ( three ply?) and soak in watered down pva.  It drys overnight and will provide a nice wrinkle effect in the fabric.  Prime and paint.

I’ve added “windows” and rolled up covers for more detail.  Simples....

Like the BOAR almost as much as the A/car.
Maybe I've seen too many episodes of M.A.S.H., but I half
expect one of the tents to have a board outside saying, 'The Swamp'.

I know what you mean.....and I never did get round to making the hospital tent...

Yup, the useful little BOAR is a good platform for anti aircraft, rocket launcher, troop carrier etc too and has been used for them all.   Something satisfying about making your own stuff or rather kitbashing others.

As I said, I’m not inclined to make new moulds....but I will be putting a couple of BOARs on eBay shortly along with a big slug of the camp Talvenus scenery (including tents, hab container units, hesco on etc....)

Ok, following their recent visit to Yb-Gur, Ferret sustained a near fatal injury requiring him to recuperate back on their homeworld of Audit One.

To replace him, PG decided to draft in a little muscle in the form of “ABCus” (named in honor of his favourite comic book robots)  a small yet powerful combat-bot.  Very handy with his oversized fists, his main weapon however being his cyclops eye heavy laser.

I was never a regular or even much of a lurker on Ammobunker but the main draw when I visited to have a look was to keep an eye on your Imperial base expansions and developments.

Simply love the stuff you have done over the years - can't wait to see them develop more here where I can frequent and hit that follow thread option <click>.  :D

Cheers fella.  Glad you enjoyed the ride.  Unfortunately, I’m not doing much new in the way of 40k and if anything, i have actually put some of the base up for sale on eBay right now.

I am concentrating on smaller  or historical game formats now....jungle scenery and Napoleonics and thanks to guys on here, have discovered fistful of lead as a way of scratching multiple periods without breaking the piggy bank!

I will hopefully put a few interesting things up as I go along though....
