Thanks doc, I didn't have anything in the leadpile that screamed american so I had to make up for it somehow. Though looking at all the other great american themed entries, I kinda feel like I cheated by shoe horning an american theme into my zombies :D

I think it's okay. In some ways painting something as American is even better than starting with American figures, given it's a painting competition :)
Besides, what could be more American than zombies? They might be a worldwide, all-pervasive pop-cultural phenomenon, but zombiedom surely owes its ascendancy to superstar popularity to all those U.S. 'zombies in the shopping mall' movies of the 80's and 90's...
