Post by: NickNascati on December 14, 2019, 12:09:03 AM
All,
Getting deeper into the planning stages.  What are my options for inexpensive ($15.00 or less) Stone Age Mammals for 28mm?

For really cheep'n'cheerful, try googling 'ice age toys' and see what turns up on Amazon. In the sets at this link, figures are advertised as '1.5 to 2 inches', so some would prolly work for 28mm. Or look for Toob Toys or similar at Hobby Lobby:

Yeah, looks like I'll have to go shopping with a figure in my pocket.

I did some serious searching a few years back, and was only able to find mammoths, buffalo and zebras in the “cheap” category... Everything else I found (antelope, cave bears, giant sloth) was undersized or oversized for 28mm. I ended up spending the cash to get metal figs not made anywhere in toy market (megalocerus, woolly rhino, etc).

I have a post in the pulp section which covers alot of details on the figures.

Safari Ltd does a great adult mammoth.

Stock figure in upper left. I customized the others by repositioning the heads and trunks.

Great work on the toy conversions and repaints! And on the tailor-made castings too, of course. But I have a soft spot for toy conversions.

Yeah, looks like I'll have to go shopping with a figure in my pocket.

Is that a mammoth in your pocket, or do you just really enjoy wargaming?

Safari is always running 10-15% off sales. Sign up for their newsletter and get 10% off next order IIRC. And free shipping within the USA - usually at about a $50-60 cutoff, today, as part of their 12 days of Christmas, the cutoff is $35 plus.

Eureka make a range of aurochs, which date to your period.
