Just having a bit of fun with some medieval retinues that will be (and have been) used in our FFoL games :)
Any mounted figures also will have a dismounted version.
First up is Sir Royce Cookee (pronounce it how you will :D) and his band of indifferent men.

And then we have Sir Royce Puddean (pronounce it how you will :D). Only the dismounted version so far but I’ve nearly finished the mounted one and have some men at arms ready to prime.

Figures are a mix of Crusader and old GW Bretonians. More to follow as and when :)
-
Such character!
-
Nicely done, that heraldry looks very crisp and bright.
-
Cracking stuff, loving the Heraldry 8) 8)
-
Great painting work, sir.
-
The Old Bretonians do go really well with the Crusader minis. Lovely choices and painting. :-*
-
Looking good! :-*
-
Many thanks gents :)
-
Lovely job
I’ve been spending too much to watching GoT as whenever I now see a red/blue paint scheme I think it would look great with a white fish added :D
-
Nice work. Love the shields.
-
Nice work James :-* :-* :-*
Great choice of miniatures with the (mainly) Crusader retinue.
They paint up a treat. I think Crusader can sometimes be overlooked (the Mark Sims sculpts)- not the WoR/HYW)
-
Nice one, really enjoyed the Battle Report with Malamute & Cpt. Blood.
Sir Royce-got-his-butt-kicked, wasn't he? lol
Great pj's, really like the colours and brushwork :-)
-
Cheers again fellas :)

Sir Royce Cookee certainly had his cookie crumbled lol

Excellent band of squires and a real nobleman ofcourse! Nice choice of colours and great freehand heraldry!
-
Nice brushwork
Cheers
Matt

I like them all but Sir Royce Puddean really is superb. The colours and heraldry work extremely well together.

Wow. Beautiful work!
-
Nice painting big chap! 8)
-
Many thanks gents, greatly appreciated :)
Hoping to get the mounted version of Puddean finished this evening :)
-
Lovely job, astonishing free hand on heraldry!
Ars longa, vita brevis!
-
Very good work, sir.
The hand painted heraldry is really nice.
-
Looking good :D

FFS... Are all your knights going to be called after rice dishes? lol
That’s going to get terribly confusing ::)
-

Of course not! Why, he's working on Sir Sebastian de Semolina now.

Very nice brushwork

Many thanks gents, greatly appreciated :)
Hoping to get the mounted version of Puddean finished this evening :)
Where is he then? It’s the 20th now... ???

Quite excellent work! :-*
You guys must be hanging out with Richard a lot lately... ;)
-
Looks great, can’t to see him up against a Sir Roger. Who will the dice Gods favour?
-
Thanks chaps :)
Who will the dice Gods favour?
Not Richard lol
-
It’s never me with the Dice Gods ::) ;) lol
I think he looks more like a Sticky Toffee Pudden than a Royce Pudden. One of the Iceland Stickytoffee-puddens.
;)

Is it possible to ask you for these buildings?
This and the following ones are a commission for Nick but drop me a pm :)
-
Cracking job on the roof :-* :-* :-*
-
The first half of this building commission are stuck with Nick and I never got photos done (and won't be for a long while), but the second half is done now. I'm working on a church at the moment and there will be a manor house at some point.

lovely little church...these builds are just getting better and better :o

Amazing work!
If you don't mind me asking, how do you paint your stonework? The interior flooring looks absolutely amazing!
-
Lovely build, such a versatile piece. :-*
-
Looking very good, indeed, Jim!
-
Very much like the offset tower
-
Thank you kindly chaps :)
If you don't mind me asking, how do you paint your stonework? The interior flooring looks absolutely amazing!
Rattle cans, inks, drybrushing and practise :)
-
Beautiful work, the floor really finishes it off
:)
-
Exceptional build 👍
Engraved acrylic walls?
-
Floor is the bit I like the best :-* :-* :-*
-
Cheers fellas :)
Engraved acrylic walls?
Nope, styrene sheet clad over 5mm lasered walls. Nice and solid :)
-
I havent seen this one yet.
Great church. :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Cracking work mate. The floor really is impressive.
-
Is the stonework on that church from texture sheets? Lovely building. :-*
-
Nice lineups on the corners of the stonework👍
As you build so many fantastic buildings do you work from your own plans?
If you do then some of use would consider purchasing PDF’s 🙏🏻
-
Thanks again :)
Is the stonework on that church from texture sheets?
Styrene ones, yes.

Yes and no. They’re not in any fit state to be released I’m afraid.

Recently finished off a Swiss church and rather enjoyed doing it :)

Gorgeous.
Love the shrine full of skullz ;)
Think it would do for a simple church in quite a few settings actually, as well as Swiss.
-
That’s a very nice piece :-*
-
Aw, now that is lovely.
-
Absolutely stunning, great thread that I may need to borrow some ideas from😁

The roof is great and the bell tower is stunning :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Windows are neat

A lovely piece, beautifully painted.

All round awesomeness, but the bell tower is especially :-*
-
Very nice mate :-* My works HQ is in Switzerland ;)
-
Thanks again everyone :)
-
Lovely
-
Another awesome build 👍
-
That is very nicely done. :-*
Is that based on a commercial MDF kit or is it entirely scratch built?
-
Thanks everyone :)
Is that based on a commercial MDF kit or is it entirely scratch built?
Complete scratchbuild. To be honest, I’m not keen on tarting up mdf kits as the ones I’ve done have been more trouble than their worth.
-
You should offer the church windows in your webshop, so that we can all try to make one :-)

I'd by 'em! 8)

Possibly. If you’re after something reasonably quickly, drop me a pm :)
-
The exquisite details on your models is always amazing.
I always wondered how they choose the skulls. Obviously they can't all be from saints. Were they locals being honored? Or just old graves of random people that were disturbed for some reason?
-
Thanks :)
Rich patrons I would imagine ???

Just found this thread and there is some great stuff in it!

Stroke of genius, Jim. Stroke of genius... lol

Funny :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Stroke of genius, Jim. Stroke of genius... lol
Exactly that. Wasn't there a demand for shrubbery at Monty Python's...? :D
-
Brilliant lol
-
Thanks all, glad it provided a chuckle :)
The idea was a joint effort because of some dubious antics that kept occurring in the woods lol
-
A new entrant in the medieval hedges debate ;)
Love it lol

Looks ready to move into...those canes in the veg patch are a lovely touch
8)
-
A gorgeous build, Jim.
-
That is really something! I will have to take it all in and use some of that for my Germans. I guess cabbage and wattle fence is omnipresent through history.
-
Wonderful stuff James :-* :-* :-*
-
Many thanks chaps :)
-
Delightful :-*
-
Beautiful work!
-
The beehives are excellent, do you sell those through your shop?
The bean poles are also a nice touch as well.
-
Very nicely done!

Lovely details :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Thanks again :)

Those are wonderful buildings, and the attention to detail in the garden is truly inspiring
-
Stunning as usual!
-
Thanks again gents :)

Got a few more medieval builds finished off for a client.
The church is based on the one Silent Invader made for his WotR collection and the house are based on ones I’ve done before.

Agree with all the above comments, this is stunningly good.
Incredibly effective use of colour, the model actually appears to be in natural daylight.
Thanks for sharing
Ry

Beautiful work!

Great jobs! Love 'em! :-*
-
Beautiful! I like the rounded apse on the old church and the texture of the daub on the town house.
-
Lovely work. The church is my favourite.
-
Cheers again :)
-
As ever, love your work fella!
-
That church is fabulous
Cheers
Matt
-
Very nice, really like that church.
Steve
-
Nice work James! I would like to what your client's table looks like with a number of these houses laid out.
-
Considering the high quality of his work it must be an impressive table.
-
Awesome work as always. I think I appreciate the small touches the most, like the ivy starting to climb up the wall on the church. Subtle, and ties it together very nicely
-
Great work, the thatching is superb.
-
Thanks all :)
-
Superb work.
Inspirational, makes me want to start another building ;)
-
True beauties.
-
Cheers :)
Here are some 18mm Tudor builds built on commission. The first two are based on actual houses and the latter two are fairly generic.

18mm is a strange scale?
-
aka Heroic 15mm ;)
Lovely buildings and beautifully grounded.
-
Superb

They are 18mm? :o They're so much nicer than the blocky stuff you sometimes see at that scale
-

Agreed,
They are superb :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
Yes, the buildings are being used for 18mm from Eureka (ECW) and from Khurasan (Tudor).
-
Awesome work :-*
-
It's an oft over used expression but those really are little works of art James :-* :-* :-*
-
Beauties.
Why don’t I have those in 28mm?
-
WOW! :-*
Some cracking stuff in this thread James.
-
Blimey James, I think you’re getting the hang of this building lark lol lol lol
Just amazing 8) 8) 8)

Cheers again fellas :)
Why don’t I have those in 28mm?
You have my № :D
-
Well, what was already said. Great buildings. :-*
-
Delightful.

Thanks :)
Here's another German style church based on an earlier one but with a separate graveyard and wall so the two elements can be used separately.
The spire and tree are removable, mainly for transportation purposes (this one went to Australia).

Most impressive and skillful model making again! The tree is great as well - is it a bought one or scratchbuilt?
-
That’s jolly nice :-*
-
Gorgeous! Well done sir!
-
Thanks chaps :)
The tree is great as well - is it a bought one or scratchbuilt?
It’s a bought one but was a custom job (along with around 30 others) from Tree Tech.
-
Wunderbar!
-
That's a better! I like the way it's set up with the churchyard being wholly a part of the piece.
-
Very nice. I know it’s described as German-style but surely wouldn’t Aldo look out of place in England?
-
Great one. :-* :-*
-
Cheers fellas :)
I know it’s described as German-style but surely wouldn’t Aldo look out of place in England?
Not really no. The main shape and form are all wrong really.
-
Lovely piece with a clever combination of church and yard. I quite like how you increased usability with the extra wall.
-
Very nice work.
-
Wow that's nice work!
-
Thanks again :)
-
Oh wow. That's absolutely gorgeous! It looks like something you might just run into in the countryside which is amazing.
