Hi all,

since the other thread did (probably inevitably) veer off the basic concept of providing hobby-related information and ventured into the current-affairs/politics realm which is essentially off-limits based on the forum rules, I decided to lock it and open this thread to collect actual information on the state of various hobby events in the coming weeks and months.

This thread may contain the following:

Please do only post verifiable information, ideally with links to show organisers' websites or other information outlets. Any other postings, such as discussing the whats, ifs, and what-were-politicians-thinkings, will be removed, period.

EDIT: Changed the topic title to add clarity.

From the other thread, on the issue of the May Partizan show, courtesy of member levied troop:

I’ve just had an email from Richard and Laurence organising Partizan which struck me as the best thought through communication on the virus I’ve seen so far. To quote the options they see:

1. The crisis passes well before the show and we can continue as planned. Given the current scientific and  medical advice and the way the epidemic is developing this seems to be the least likely scenario. It is of course the one we would prefer but we have to be realistic and say there is not much chance of this being the situation by mid-May.

2. The situation worsens considerably and the Government, under advice from the experts decide to ban gatherings over a certain size or advise against large meetings like Partizan. This is what has happened in France and some other affected countries so we have to consider this a realistic option.

3.The situation continues to worsen but slowly so there is no recommendation to avoid large gatherings. Under these circumstances I would expect that many people would still choose not to attend. We have to be honest and admit that our demographic – primarily middle aged and older men is one of those that the experts say is mostly likely to be hit badly by the virus and I would certainly not ask anyone to put themselves at risk for the sake of a wargames show. Under these circumstances we would be faced with hosting a show  where we would see a very much lower attendance which would then put traders in a difficult position financially. We would also be asking those putting the games on to put themselves at possible risk which we would not be willing to do.

Partizan are going to consider the position and make a decision on April 2nd. If it is the worst case, they feel they can survive the financial hit and still run the 2nd show later in the year.

UPDATE 2020-03-25: The May Partizan show has been officially cancelled; the October event is still on the books, pending circumstances and further developments.

Hi all
sadly i have to inform you that due to the Covid19 crisis and the related measures taken by italian government we have to cancell the Hellana games 2020 convention that had to be on 15th of March.
We are considering if we should just postpone the event or cancell it at all, atm it's pretty hard to say.
I'll keep you updated.

From their FB page...

Since the very first AdeptiCon, held eighteen years ago, we’ve made it clear that the highest priority, in any consideration, would always be the attendees. Over the years, we have done our best to be loyal to this principle. With our incredible staff, volunteers, organizers, and instructors, AdeptiCon has been proud to host our annual hobby celebration with a continued emphasis on creating an amazing experience for our attendees. It is with that priority in mind that we have decided, after many hours of internal conversation and consultation with the venue, hotels, and various local authorities, that the health and well-being of our attendees and the public must come first. While we continued planning and did everything in our power to see AdeptiCon run as normal, we are now following both government guidance and our own judgement concerning the COVID-19 virus in cancelling the 2020 convention scheduled for March 25th-29th.

We understand that this will impact all of you. It also impacts our exhibitors, staff, the venue, and the local community. It is not a decision we have made lightly; it is a decision based entirely on keeping people safe and healthy. It goes without saying that no one is more heartbroken about this situation than the AdeptiCon team. We look forward to seeing all of you every year, sharing our love of the hobby and revisiting friendships cultivated over years of the convention.

The AdeptiCon staff is already vigorously working on details around issuing requests for credits/refunds, the handling of prepaid merchandise, badge upgrades and other related items.  We will provide to our attendees and exhibitors final plans to address the unprecedented circumstances that the COVID-19 virus has thrust upon us by April 15th or sooner. Your patience is appreciated during this time as we finalize the necessary details and logistics.

It is important to understand that the AdeptiCon team remains committed to this event. With your help, we will be able to return to providing you with the greatest tabletop gaming event experience around. We are very determined to see AdeptiCon return, thrive, and run long into the future. And we will remain focused, as always, on our most important priority, the attendees.

Sincerely,

AdeptiCon Staff

Salute has been 'postponed' until next year. Email copied from SLW .

Quote
SALUTE HAS BEEN POSTPONED

It is with deep regret that we must announce that Salute 2020, due to be hosted by the South London Warlords wargames club, at London Excel on Saturday 18th April 2020, is being postponed.
Due to the ongoing, unprecedented crisis with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Club committee has taken this decision following the recent change in Government advice and with the likely ongoing uncertainty in mind.   We understand that this will impact all of you and therefore, as you can imagine, this difficult decision has not been taken lightly or easily: we have balanced all the great things about Salute with the health risks to traders, gamers and attendees.
Salute will now take place on Saturday 17th April 2021.

Your booking will be transferred and be valid for this new date on the same terms. The Salute team are already working on details of how we work through the coming year with you to be ready for 2021.  Your patience is appreciated during this time as we finalise the necessary details and logistics.
Please understand that the South London Warlords remain committed to hosting Salute. We have hosted the show for over 45 years. With the support of our traders and attendees Salute has become the biggest one-day independent wargames show in Europe and an important event within the wargames calendar. The South London Warlords wish to see this continue.
Sincerely

The South London Warlords

UK Games Expo Postponed to August 2020

https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/content/news/uk-games-expo-postponed-august-2020/?fbclid=IwAR2KsvaCRKIvK5xyDEwPNe1JtrpnqObhm1j19EWLK0an4kFP1hT6t8zho3A

In view of the current Covid-19 virus pandemic, the directors of UK Games Expo have decided to postpone the 2020 UK Games Expo until Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd August. However because of other shows, the halls will not be 1,2 and 3 but will be halls 9,10,11 and 12. You may insert whatever expletive feels appropriate at this point ________. We did!

This decision has been made after considering national advice and government directives with regard to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, the expected closure of large venues and the probable duration of the infection. This decision has been made following consultation with sponsors, show partners and our venues.

We consider that a postponement at this stage maximises the chances to both protect the health and well-being of all our attendees and hold a successful show in 2020 so that participant exhibitors sustain the least disruption and financial difficulty.

We understand that this decision will impact everyone in different ways and will have a financial impact on some. We can only apologise for this and assure you that we are working with all our providers and hotels to help with these costs.

ALL VISITORS AND EXHIBITORS WHO CANNOT ATTEND THE NEW DATES FOR ANY REASON WILL RECEIVE A FULL REFUND OF TICKETS AND STAND FEES.

Both of us and the rest of the team would personally like to thank those individuals who have offered advice and support in recent days and the wider community whose engagement and enthusiasm mean so much to us.

As a special note we are aware that the new dates for the show will coincide with the dates for Tabletop Scotland. The choice of available dates for all the contracted services we need to run the show were very limited and in fact this date was the only viable option. We have spoken to Duncan and Dave from Tabletop Scotland and apologised to them. They were amazingly gracious and we are working with them to ensure they suffer no financial loss and that their revised plans for Tabletop Scotland later in 2020 meet with success.

We have created postponement documentation to help with any questions. Please make sure you read the section of the postponement documentation that is relevant to you as it will give you the best answer. The sections are: General Questions, Visitor, Exhibitor, Volunteer, Tournament Organiser, Live Event Act or Workshop/Seminar Host.

Sincerely,
Richard and Tony
UKGE Directors.

Diceni in Norwich UK this May cancelled.

"Hello everyone,
You may have seen the initial announcement on Facebook, but here it is again either way.
** Diceni 2020 Official Cancellation notice **
Sad news, but probably expected. The Forum has cancelled all public events till early June and so Diceni 2020 will be cancelled along with many others.
We can only support the Forum’s position on this decision given the circumstances with Covid-19 in the UK.
We are looking at dates for 2021, we hope to be able to announce this soon. Even sooner we are looking at running a mini-Diceni later in the year in partnership with the Library @ the Forum, again we’ll be announcing details in the future once things are clearer.
All traders will receive their fees back in full, and to our demo teams, many thanks for your support we hope you’ll be able to come and show us what you had planned at a future event.
** end **
We'll be working through returning your funds as soon as possible.
In terms of what happens in the future, we are targeting the 2nd May 2021 for the next full Diceni - waiting confirming from the Forum (they have a lot to work through right now as you might expect).  If you would simply like your application to roll over, let me know and I'll register you immediately.  We'll be returning your funds either way.
In terms of a mini-Diceni, we are looking at a November date to co-incide with International Games Week, in con-junction with the Library.  This will be a gaming only event (no retail) but let me know if you would be interested in participating.
Thank you for your support this year, I hope we'll all be able to bounce back after these events and look forward to future opportunities.
Cheers,
Neil"

Just to confirm what you probably guessed, Partizan have pre-empted their approach in the second post and definitely cancelled.  In effect the whole show is transferred from May to the proposed date in October (although obviously this depends on circumstances).
Stay safe.

CRISIS has been cancelled....

"We have waited as long as possible, but we have had to make the decision to cancel Crisis 2020. With a possible second and third wave on their way and the closing of the borders and a lot more uncertainties, we no longer could defend spending a lot of money to prepare for a show, that might not happen. Believe me when I say, this is with great regret. as it would have been the next big show, after Salute being cancelled and I know everybody was hoping that things would be back to normal by november. It may/may not be the case. A show like Crisis is something that needs to be prepared by us, but also by those who wish to attend or trade. Hotels may not be open yet, will there be enough space , will we be able to travel etc. We are thinking about you, the loyal (or maybe new) friend who likes to come to Crisis from all over Europe if not the world. We don't want to be responsible of any of you catching anything that could get you ill or worse. The same is of course true for our dedicated clubmembers who work their behinds off to get this show working. We also have to think about them. We try again next Year on november 6th 2021. Keep safe.  Johan President of the Tin Soldiers of Antwerp"

That's right! Now we can hang out with fans around the globe and - even better - it'll be free to attend. We'll be trying to recreate the feel of an Open Day as much as possible and currently the plans involve:

    live streams of games
    the infamous Ronnie Q&A
Needy Cat Games' seminar on Games Design 101
    live sculpting session
    special website offers

Plus we'll be unveiling plenty of new models, like this work in progress Asterian Spectra...

UK Games Expo August Cancelled.

Watch the Interview with the Directors and On Table Top here:

https://www.beastsofwar.com/events/uk-games-expo-2020-cancelled/

Read the cancellation documentation here:

https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/documents/59/UKGE_2020_August_Cancellation_GwHF4T4.pdf

UK Games Expo 2020 was originally planned for May 2020. In March we announced that due to the Corona Pandemic we were postponing until August 2020.Since making that announcement we have been monitoring the situation with regard to the current Covid-19 virus pandemic.

After long deliberation and with great reluctance, the directors of UK Games Expo have decided to cancel the 2020 UK Games Expo. This decision has been made after considering national advice and government directives with regard to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, the expected closure of large venues and the probable duration of the infection. We reached our conclusions following consultation with sponsors, show partners and our venues.

We consider that a cancellation at this stage maximises the chances to both protect the health and well-being of all our attendees but also the financial viability of our exhibitors and the UK Games Expo itself and gives the best opportunity for attendees to recover any secondary costs. This allows us the best opportunity to hold a successful show in 2021.

We understand that this decision will impact everyone in different ways and will have a financial impact on some. We can only apologise for this and assure you that we are working with all our providers and hotels to help with these costs.

ALL VISITORS AND EXHIBITORS ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE A FULL REFUND OF TICKETS AND STAND FEES.

YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO ROLL FORWARD YOUR ENTRY TICKET AND STAND FEES TO 2021.

(FOR FURTHER DETAILS SEE CANCELLATION DOCUMENT BELOW).

Both of us and the rest of the team would personally like to thank those individuals who have offered advice and support in recent weeks and the wider community for your continuing support.

We are all very disappointed and saddened that we cannot bring you UKGE this year.
We would again like to thank the organisers of Tabletop Scotland who selflessly made their dates available in August 2020 for UKGE. We hope that their revised plans for Tabletop Scotland later in 2020 as well as future events meet with success.

Please make sure you read the section of the cancellation documentation that is relevant to you as it will give you the best answer to your question. The sections are: General Questions, Visitor, Exhibitor, Volunteer, Tournament Organiser, Live Event Act or Workshop/Seminar Host.

Sincerely,

Richard and Tony

Dear All,

It is with great sadness I have to announce that Colours 2020 will not be happening due to the restrictions placed upon us because of the Covid 19 or Coronavirus. We have tried to hold on as long as we could in the hope that by September things would have normalised, but we have reached the point where we needed to make a decision to either proceed or not. Obviously, we have to make the safety of our attendees, our traders and our club members our highest priority. Like so many events before us, this means that we find ourselves in a position where we cannot in good conscience proceed. At the time of writing this it is intended that Colours will return in September 2021 but we will communicate that at the appropriate time.

We have today contacted everyone on our traders, gamers and other exhibitors list with this sad news, but we will, once again, be running a #PartizanintheCloud event on the day! More on that soon!

After having cancelled the May Partizan we have spent the early summer watching the news and trying to work out whether or not we are going to be in a position to run The Other Partizan in its new October slot.

We had hoped that there might have been a sufficient return to 'normality' for us to go ahead with the show without restrictions but it is clear that, even if a vaccine is as advanced as we are hearing over the last few days, there is no way that it will be ready and distributed by October. A return to normality in any meaningful way by the time of the October show is just not realistic and it seems there will be no large scale indoor events going ahead for some while yet.

We have also considered whether it would be possible to run the show in a socially distanced, safe manner which would allow us to go ahead but with various measures and restrictions in place. We have considered ticketed time slots and various other measures but in the end they would amount to limiting the numbers of people who could attend with a serious knock on effect for the traders. We also know that many of those who put on games do not yet feel sufficiently safe that they would be happy attending an indoor event with many hundreds of people present - and that is if we were even allowed to go ahead, something that is not the case at present.

So as we did with the May show we have decided to make a decision early to allow people, particularly those who make a living out of the show circuit, to plan accordingly.

We are therefore announcing that The Other Partizan 2020 is cancelled. All being well our next show will be Partizan 2021 which will be held at Newark Showground on May 23rd 2021.

We also need to deal with the refund of traders fees for those who paid prior to the May show. When we offered to return the fees from the May show no one chose to take us up on the refund and all monies were transferred to payment for October. We do not feel that it is right to hold on to the money any longer now that the October show is cancelled and so will be arranging to return all monies as soon as possible. Since we still have a horribly archaic bank account, we will be doing this by posting you cheques and these should be with you within the next couple of weeks. Please note that a fair few traders had still not paid by the time of the May cancellation so obviously not everyone will be getting money back.

We will be planning on holding another Partizan in the Cloud on 11th October - the last one was far more of a success than we had expected so we are keen to repeat it and improve on it. We hope we will have your support in this and we will contact you separately in a few days to see if you have ideas to make this another great virtual event!

Thanks for your ongoing support with the shows and I hope we will see you all again next May.

Best wishes

Warfare 2020 Postponement

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the postponement of Warfare 2020 to 20201 due to the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 regulations.  We have held on for as long as possible in the hope that the situation for events of this size would normalise, however we now need to make a decision in order to give everyone time to plan their activities in November.

We are moving on to making sure Warfare 2021 will be a success. Warfare 2021 will be on the weekend of November 27th and 28th.  We will have the same Ascot Racecourse venue as was planned for this year and we are committed to making the most of the venue that will combine all the good things we have had in the past along with all of the new things we had planned for this year.

Thank you for your support of Warfare 2020. If you have already been kind enough to send us a deposit or pay for a tournament ticket for 2020 we will roll over your deposit and ticket to 2021. If you feel unable to commit to joining us next year, we will naturally return your deposit or refund your ticket.

Thanks to everyone who has either helped with the planning for this year or who has provided encouragement over the last few months.  Looking forward to a massive Warfare in 2021.

Tournament and Trade organisers will be in contact personally but if you have any queries please mail warclub@wargamesreading.co.uk
Title: Targe - Kirriemuir 2020
Post by: Shahbahraz on August 10, 2020, 08:18:10 AM
Belated advice for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Quote
Unfortunately, I have to announce that after lengthy discussion the Organising Committee has decided that we have no option but to cancel Targe 2020.

The pros and cons of this discussion were essentially; on the one hand, that we might well be the only wargames show in Scotland this year, and that it is a fantastic event. The other hand, was that we are still unclear what additional requirements if any, would be imposed by the school, our insurer, or Government.

Planning for Targe takes months and so we need to give certainty to traders and games organisers well in advance. There is also no guarantee that we won’t be experiencing a second spike of infections, and potentially again back in a strict lockdown.

The factor uppermost in all our minds, is that traders, volunteers and participants would be in reasonably close proximity for extended periods, and given the demographics of much of the hobby; not only attendees, but traders, we would be devastated if someone became sick, or potentially suffered even more serious consequences from attending.  While there are some precautions that could be taken, these would not guarantee the safety of our friends, our hobby colleagues and ourselves. Socially distancing at a wargames show is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do, requiring physical precautions, as well as volunteers to police what some might see as arbitrary measures, and can only mitigate, not eliminate the risk.

Accordingly, we reached the conclusion that the show could not go ahead.

Thanks for the updates. Shame about Warfare, although completely understandable under the circumstances. I was really looking forward to seeing the show in its new venue at Ascot (and away from the Godawful Rivermead Leisure Centre in Reading). Ah well, fast forward to 2021 I guess!

After careful consideration and discussions with our venue and other show organisers, we've reached the sad decision to cancel Battleground 2020.  The current Covid situation causes a whole host of problems for holding large events in crowded venues and the added factors are just too much currently:

- Face masks would have to be compulsory and we would have to refuse entry to anyone that didn't come with one.  Some folks might have health issues which permit them to not wear masks, which we would need to confirm at the door.

- We would need to implement a one-way system through the hall which would need to be policed by our staff.

- We would have to stagger the entry into the hall with some kind of ticketing system to keep the numbers in the hall to around 100-150 maximum.  The ticketing itself is a bit tricky but we might also have people complaining if they have to queue outside until the hall empties out sufficiently.

- We would need PPE and sanitation stations all over the hall, which is an added cost to deal with.

- We would need to hire the hall for an extra half-day to allow the traders a bigger window for unloading and packing away.  This incur more extra costs.

- The venue would have to perform a deep-clean before and after the event to make sure that they've covered their side.

All of that extra hassle and costs would mean that we'd be losing money on the event, whilst also asking the traders to take a gamble on something that might not be viable for them in terms of visitor numbers and sales.

With everything considered, the sensible option is to cancel this year's event and wait for this Corona situation to calm down.  Hopefully by the beginning of 2021 things will be under control and we might have a vaccine.

We'll update everyone as to the date for 2021 as soon as we can.  Currently the Warfare show in Ascot have moved their event into our usual slot, but we're waiting to hear back from them about whether that's a permanent change.

Its all a shame, but not unexpected, thanks again for the info bursts Dags, much appreciated reminders.

Although could say that out of all of it they should have introduced at least one way system in the old venue regardless years ago  lol

Roll on 2021, maybe I will have some money to put on something then.

Post by: beren on August 18, 2020, 08:39:30 PM
The 27th September event can go ahead - however we can only let 18-20 members of the public into the hall as only 30 at this moment in time are allowed in the hall at anyone time.

Buyers will be let into the hall in 15 minute intervals and can join the queue again if they haven't spent out already or wish to come in to browse / shop again. Seems like the only way to fairly let folks have a fair look around.

Will open up earlier and close later if necessary.

And of course follow strict guidelines.

The sellers will be asked to have multiple tables of goodies for sale so there is still loads of stuff on offer.

I am looking at trying to sort this still and will get back to you all if it is fully up and running.

Any feedback gratefully received.

Thank

Sad to say we have had to pull the show for 2021. The continued situation and uncertainty around Covid 19, we don't know how we could get 2000 visitors, exhibitors and members safely in a covid secure manner in to the Knavesmire stand. The rules are in flux and we could have got the show organised to face a local lockdown or change in the rules with no notice.
Too big a risk to ourselves, our visitors and the reputation of the show.

BOYL 2020 is cancelled.

We are sorry to announce that we have decided to cancel the October rescheduled date for Bring Out Your Lead due to the ongoing risks of Coronavirus.   This is a community event and our aim is for the whole community to be able to enjoy it risk free.   This isn’t achievable given the current Coronavirus situation.

BOYL 2021 dates have been set for Friday 30th and Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1 August.

Sad to hear about the next Tactica being cancelled but I also was expecting this to happen.

The Tactica is a, for German standards, very well attended Convention and at times quite crowded. It is also very relaxed, so I could not see it truly work and keep the same spirit with all securities measures in place.

All the best to the organizers and let´s all hope for a grand return of the Tactica in the year 2022!

Hello Bayou Wars nation!  We have met with the venue management and after reviewing the restriction we would have to operate under, it has been decided that Bayou wars 2020 will be cancelled.
The decision was tough to make but the occupancy we would have to restrict the con to made it impossible to hold the Convention to the standards we strive for.
We will be looking to do a Bayou Wars themed game day sometime soon so look out for an announcement.
At this point we will be directing our efforts to planning Bayou Wars 2021.  Hope to see you guys there... Keep pushing lead.

CRUSADE 2021 UPDATE
Fellow gamers,

After careful consideration and discussion with our venue, it is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of Crusade 2021. There is simply too much uncertainty associated with the current Coronavirus situation and there seems little prospect of large indoor gatherings/events taking place in the foreseeable future.

We’re really grateful for all your continuing support during these difficult times and look forward to welcoming you back in 2022 where, provisionally, Crusade 22 will take place on Saturday 29th January (i.e. our regular last Saturday in January slot).

For those individuals/businesses that were good enough to provide us with advance payment/deposits, we will be in touch separately to establish your preferences where we are happy to provide a refund in full or rollover payment toward the next show.

Take care folks and enjoy your gaming whenever/where ever you can (subject to staying safe and following appropriate guidelines).

Thank you.

AdeptiCon 2021 Update

We hope that everyone is well in these unprecedented and uncertain times. It has been a challenging year for all of us. It is with a heavy heart that we must announce officially what many of you have already come to realize, that it will be impossible to hold AdeptiCon in March of 2021. The continued ongoing effects of the pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the State of Illinois mean we are unable to effectively plan and organize the logistical efforts involved with running the convention. As you may be aware, by late November AdeptiCon has already typically opened hotel blocks and launched registration and staff and attendees alike have started making plans to see old friends and begin new hobby projects.

Like Americans across the country, we are optimistic that brighter days are coming, but the fluidity of the situation does not allow for the firm commitments required to see AdeptiCon realized in the way we’ve all come to expect. We do not make this decision lightly and there is no group more disappointed than the AdeptiCon staff, but current restrictions along with our continued first priority, the health and well-being of our attendees and staff, makes cancellation the only option. We believe it is the responsible one.

To that end, we have notified and consulted with our venue and myriad partners to negotiate the necessary arrangements to cancel AdeptiCon 2021, while simultaneously securing the future of the convention for years to come.

We understand that this was not the announcement anyone wanted to hear and certainly not one we are happy about making. However, this decision allows us to focus fully on the future of AdeptiCon. Instead of being confined and limited by the uncertainty of current circumstances, we can focus on planning the best possible AdeptiCon 2022. It also allows us to continue the development of the Ancient Order of AdeptiCon perks and the launch of an AdeptiCon webstore that would make AdeptiCon merchandise available year round.

Once again, we appreciate your understanding, patience, and the unprecedented loyalty of our attendees. If you had chosen, previously, to roll your registration forward, rest assured that it will move to 2022/2023 without any issues. This has been a challenging time for the nation and while AdeptiCon thanks everyone involved in making the convention the best event in the world, from attendees to volunteers to exhibitors, we would especially like to acknowledge those of you serving your communities in the medical and first-responder fields. Your tireless work allows us to see the light at the end of the tunnel and gives us confidence that not only will AdeptiCon be back, stronger than ever, but that our country will too.

Update: December 2020

Hammerhead 2021 has been moved to Saturday 31st July.

The extremely welcome news that there will be a mass immunisation program for CV-19 rolled out over the next weeks and months, has at last created the certain belief that the wargame shows will be able to resume once again.

It has been obvious for a while with the current progress of the pandemic, that the March 6th date for Hammerhead is too early for the show to function in a normal way and follow the necessary guidelines to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone in attendance. So many people have put so much time and effort in creating the fantastic range of participation games for the Hammerhead shows, that rather than simply cancelling the show, we wanted to move it to a future date when ‘normality’ has returned. It is our sincere belief that by the end of July next year a mass vaccination program will have delivered the safe environment necessary for Hammerhead 2021 to go ahead, hopefully without the current compulsory social distancing, facemasks etc.

The date of Hammerhead 2021 is Saturday 31st July.

Both venues have been booked and we will be contacting traders and game presenters in due course. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the tremendous help, encouragement and support we have received over the last seven years that Sally has been organising Hammerhead. Now that we have a new date for the show, we will work hard to make this ‘Summer Hammerhead’ a true celebration of our hobby!

PARTIZAN ANNOUNCEMENT!

We have been clear from the beginning of the pandemic that we will only run the show when we believe it is safe to do so. As such we are today announcing that our May event will again be a virtual ‘Partizan in the Cloud’, rather than physical event. Our hope is that we will be able to run the October event as a physical show, and we will begin planning that, but we will review that decision during the summer.

Partizan in the Cloud Mk3 – Sunday 23rd May 2021 – online
Partizan on the Ground – Sunday 10th October 2021 – subject to review – Newark Showground

Our rationale for this is that things remain very uncertain with the current coronavirus pandemic, and despite the hope offered by the vaccine rollout, the time when it will be safe to hold large indoor events remains very uncertain. Much will depend on the pace and extent of the U.K. vaccination programme and on the effect this has on the spread and severity of illness. There are clearly uncertainties at present about these factors.

Under the current Tier restrictions we would need Nottinghamshire to be back to Tier 1 alert conditions to allow us to use the hall anywhere near normal conditions, and it is difficult to predict when this will be possible.

We will, therefore, run a third Partizan in the Cloud event on May 23rd, and plan for a return to a normal physical event on 10th October, but keep that under review as conditions change. As promised, for the next physical Partizan event, whether this October or in 2022, we will first be re-inviting those traders, games and societies who were originally booked in for last May’s cancelled event. We will then extend invitations to other traders and gamers if we have spaces. We will also ask for preview videos blogs etc for the May event to get us all into a high state of anticipation for when we can meet again safely.

We are happy to also confirm the dates for next year, when we should be back to a much more normal state!

Partizan 2022 – Sunday May 22nd 2022 – Newark Showground
The Other Partizan – Sunday October 9th 2022 – Newark Showground

Stay safe!

Laurence, Richard, Steve and the Partizan crew.

to David

Hello,

Firstly, I hope that you, your families and your colleagues are keeping safe. These are difficult times and our best wishes go out to you all.

Having just finalised our negotiations with London Excel, we are now able to update you on the plans for Salute.

In light of current Government guidelines, and looking at the next few months, although we can see light at the end of the tunnel, with the vaccines currently being distributed, it is highly doubtful that Salute, or any exhibition for that matter, would be permitted to go ahead, as planned, on 10th April 2020.

Therefore, we have been vigorously exploring our options and wanted to give as much notice as possible. We also did not wish to make a further short delay to the date, that we may have had to push back further if the pandemic situation had not improved. We have therefore decided to postpone Salute until; Saturday, 13th November 2021.

It is strongly hoped that postponing Salute until then will give us the best possible chance of running a successful show. We hope that by November, not only will the exhibition machine be up and working again, but also the public will have the confidence to attend exhibitions in large numbers once again.

As before, all bookings and payments already made will carry over until this date. You will still get exactly what you booked originally. The South London Warlords will burden all the extra costs associated with this postponement. Sadly, as outlined on your original booking forms, the South London Warlords will be unable to offer any refunds should you wish to cancel your booking.

We are very much aware that Salute has a large impact on the wargaming show calendar. Therefore, we wish also to outline our intentions for future shows, so that we will cause as little disruption as possible to other show dates and will get Salute back to its home month of April. We are intending, at this time, (subject to confirmation with Excel), to have a short turnaround after the November 2021 date, and hold another Salute in mid 2022, (possibly June but tbc), then it will be our intention to return to April for 2023.

Please understand that these decisions have not been taken lightly. Forefront of our thoughts are the health and wellbeing of all those who will attend Salute. Also we wish to host the show when the public will have the confidence and wish to attend shows and spend their money with exhibitors.

Further details in regard to the usual getting to the venue and wristbands, etc. will be sent out in due course.

SELWG update (with a change of venue):

“With the seemingly positive announcements in recent days around COVID vaccinations and unlocking, I wanted to drop you all a quick email to let you know that the SELWG committee will be making a decision by the end of March as to whether to proceed with planning our annual show this year or not.  We very much hope that the timetable set out by the Prime Minister a few weeks ago is maintained, and that we will be able to proceed, but want to wait a little longer before putting the wheels in motion.

We have already secured a booking for our show - to run at Lee Valley Sports Centre  (61 Meridian Way, Edmonton, London, N9 0AR) on 17th October 2021. Please do pencil us in to your diaries!!!

Whilst this year will take us out of South East London, and the usual home of both our show and club, it does mean we no longer have to deal with Crystal Palace Sports Centre, which SELWG members, traders, gaming clubs and punters alike agree is well past its best!”

Here’s hoping 🤞

CRISIS 2021 UPDATE
It is with great regret that we have to announce that Crisis 2021 will not be happening. The pandemic situation without clear view on what will be possible in November and under which conditions such as, how many are allowed through the door, will there be a possibility to organise the kind of shows we had in the past where, let's face it, social distancing is not happening at all. Not knowing if any travelling will be able. Will catering be possible ? The simple calcullation between cost and worst case scenario revenue, make it unwise to organise a Crisis in 2021. On top of that the Brexit situation with more than 50% of the traders that are usually attending no longer able to do so without huge customs problems doesn't make it any easier either. Let's hope that 2022 is a better year on November 5th (I know Guy Fawkes night). And who knows a change in UK politics.
Keep safe

Colours 2021 cancelled

Dear wargamer,

It is with great reluctance that the club  has decided that it cannot run Colours 2021.

We have tried to hold on as long as we could in the hope that things would have normalised, but we have reached the point where we needed to make a decision to either proceed or not. Obviously, we have to make the safety of our attendees, our traders and our club members our highest priority. Government policy on large events is still shaping so we have no idea that a 1500 person attendance would be possible. We also have the challenge that we've not met as a club in over a year, and need to ensure we have sufficient members to roster the show.

For specific questions on trade bookings please contact our trade rep. who's details you should have. In short you will have the choice to a refund or can carry over your booking to 2022. We have made a booking for the Race Course in 2022 and really want to put on a show for you.

The Salute show appears to be on for 2022...

Quote
The South London Warlords are pleased to announce that the 50th Salute Wargames show, will be held at the London Excel Exhibition Centre on Saturday 9th April 2022! The reason for this date is due to the fact that the South London Warlords are conscious of holding Salute in any other month, rather than it’s usual April date, will impact on the normal show calendar for 2022, and could impact on the running of other club shows. This will obviously mean that there will be 2 Salute shows within a 6 month period, which will put pressure on the Salute timelines, but it was felt that this would be a better option than holding a possible mid-year show in 2022.

*********

BRANDING - Due to the delays caused, the 13th November show is still branded as ‘Salute 2020’. In order to avoid such an occurrence in the future, it was decided by The South London Warlords to change the show name to the number of shows that have been hosted rather than the year that it is due to be hosted on. As this will be the 50th Salute (assuming November 2021 goes ahead). The branding will change to ‘Salute 50’. This will then continue in this format for future shows.

There's more in the email but it's just initial details for traders.

BRITCON cancelled....

Quote
May 2021:

Unfortunately, and despite our best efforts it now appears that we will not be able to stage an edition of Britcon this year.

Even with all of the positive news in recent weeks, and steady progress along the roadmap to lifting of the current restrictions "Covid uncertainty" has still eaten greatly into our normal planning and promotional cycle for Britcon such that by the time we are likely to have an official green light in mid June, the timeline will then be woefully short until early August.

Even more importantly our venue at Manchester Uni may not be in a position to confirm our booking even by mid June, with the venue management team who handle our booking all having either been temporarily redeployed to support testing of the student population or in some cases furloughed or made redundant.

Taken together this means that even with the best will in the world we do not see how we can stage an event of the size and quality we would wish to deliver this year.

For 2022, with the Manchester venue still on track to be demolished in the Spring/Summer we have been looking at a number of other similar venues around the country to stage a residential weekend-long gaming event and trade show.

As a result of this process we're now pleased to report that we now have a shortlist of two suitable venues for Britcon 2022, both of which are in Nottingham and both of which are holding dates for us on our normal "2nd weekend in August" dateline. Once Covid restrictions allow (hopefully in June) we will be making site visits to both and signing a contact with one of them as soon as possible so we can start the process of planning for a much more normal Britcon in a new venue in 2022.

For the rest of the calendar, the latest status is as follows:

Bookings are open for the BHGS Teams Competition @ the London GT over the weekend of 25/26th September, where we will be staging competitions for DBM, DBMM, To the Strongest, L'Art de la Guerre and Field of Glory under the BHGS banner.

Updated details for all of these events are now on the BHGS website and we already have almost 100 players signed up at what looks to be a keenly anticipated set of competitions this September - and we very much hope you too will be able to join us in London to start rolling some dice again!

We are hoping to hear back soon from our regular venue for Roll Call to confirm some dates for Spring 2022, and will publish these dates and competition detailsas soon as possible.

We hope to see you at the LGT in September, and in both Cranfield and also in Nottingham next year.

The BHGS Britcon Team

No big surprise, given Glasgow is still in lockdown, but the Glasgow Games Gathering at the end of June has been cancelled again this year - facebook link (https://www.facebook.com/events/bellahouston-sports-centre/glasgow-games-gathering-2021/732258297686103/)

Hopefully next year  :)

IMPORTANT Hammerhead Show Update 15th June 2021

“It is with great frustration that we have little choice but to announce that Hammerhead 2021 can no longer go ahead on the 31st July in response to the government’s decision to extend Covid restrictions for another 4 weeks and possibly even longer.

Since Hammerhead 2020, no traders or game presenters have attended a wargame show for what will be 16 months, and therefore need a minimum of 6 weeks to organise transport, accommodation, their trade stand or participation game, manufacture, and order stock etc. For this reason, the decision must be made now and not in 4 weeks’ time.

Over the last few weeks, the increasing spread of the Covid Delta variant has piled uncertainty upon more uncertainty for event organisers across the country. Unfortunately, working crystal balls are in very short supply at the moment, so nobody really knows what will happen next.  We had a vision of Hammerhead being the last wargame show before the first Covid lock-down and the first show to re-commence after the pandemic – leaving go of this vision is not easy after so much preparation.

A massive thank you to all the traders, game presenters and everyone who has offered so much encouragement and support for Hammerhead. We will organise a full refund for all the traders and give them the first option for trade space at the next Hammerhead scheduled for 5th March 2022 when hopefully ‘normality’ will have returned to all our lives.”

Claymore 2021, a wargames show due to be held in Edinburgh on August 7th, is now officially cancelled.

It's a shame but the big Covid relaxation that's been announced by the Scottish Government is just a few days too late for us.

Was just about to post that  lol

November this year was just a one off and there’s not really enough time to sort a show out for this coming April.

Apologies if posted elsewhere: Here in the US, HMGS announced that Cold Wars (April 1-3) was cancelled (Ocean City Maryland). Historicon is still on for the summer so far (July 2022, Valley Forge PA).

The Falkirk Carronade show normally takes place in early May. However, it has been postponed, probably until September.
