I am going to take the BSC 2020 as an opportunity to add another structure to my Kodsticklerburg project. Most likely a partially destoyed and burnt gatehouse or smithy.
-
Looking forward to see what you do :)

Had a quick look at your blog - excellent work.
Either a gatehouse or smithy would look great
:)

good idea

Finally got a bit of a start on this. The building is inspired by such fortified manor house as the famous Stokesay Castle:
... and Bars Court:
I worked out a floor plan and did a sketch of what I wanted the basic structure to look like; a side view of the top floor, followed by the floor plan for the bottom floor and then a side view of the bottom floor:
And even got one of the long walls cut out with an arch:

Here is a GW Warrior Priest to give an idea of scale:
My initial reaction is the wall and subsequently the arch is too high. I may knock a couple of centimetres off and possibly make the entrance square so it looks less like a castle wall and more like a building with a large entrance.

Nice! :)
-
A promising start :)
The second photo is of Ightham Mote in Kent and it’s a treasure trove for fortified manor houses 8)
-
A great start - I’m even jealous of your sketching ability
:D

I can't remember where it came up as "Bar's Court" but I thought maybe it was the specific building and Ightham Mote was the complex. :?

In fits and starts I got a little more done. A couple of times I pulled stuff apart and put it back together again. ::)

I did a bit of experimenting, parttially on purpose and partially by accidenty. The dab is Polyblend Sanded Ceramic Tile Caulk (bone colour, for those that are curious). I actually meant to get the sanded grout which comes in an identical tube but I left my readers in the truck. The issue m,ay come up when I attempt to paint it as the caulk contains silicone.
I am waiting on more styrodur to finish the other long wall and the local store is out of 1/4"sq bass wood.
I also have to cast up some flagstone sections like I used on my last Kodsticklerburg building to go around the outside of the building.
While I'm awaiting supplies I will start on the roof, or rather, what is left of it and make some interior walls and some bracing.
-
Too good! I usually make my roof tiles from hundreds of bits of card...
-
Looking Good :-* :-* :-*
-
Amazing rate of progress ! Looks really good already
-
very nice!
-
Looking very good! What do you use to fill the gaps in the wooden construction in the upper flor?

Thank you guys.

Polyblend Sanded Ceramic Tile Caulk (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-Building-Products-Polyblend-115-Platinum-10-5-oz-Sanded-Ceramic-Tile-Caulk-PC11510S/204984846)- in Bone, layered onto some 3mm MDF. It may have been a mistake; it takes forever to set up; contains silicone so may not be paintable.
We shall see...

Good progress on the build - as far as the caulk is concerned, I’d suggest a quick test piece (ie separate from your actual build) so you can try some paint on it....less painful if you test it now rather than wait until your build is finished
;)

That is the plan. :D
-
Good news! The test patch worked out fine. :)
In other news... I added some narrow windows/arrow slots to the bottom floor:
I Also did most of the wood flooring on the second floor and added the end walls:
I also made one of the shooting walkways:
I managed to get the exterior flag stones all laid out as well.
I don't expect to get much done over the next week as I will be preparing for an ECW game on Sunday. :D
-
Looks excellent - the window slots are a really nice addition
-
Gosh...
-
Simply wonderful! 8)
What did you use for the wattle in between your daub? Some sort of plaster gauze?
It looks to be quite a big building, with plenty of playable options. Come to think of it; some skirmish games come to mind which could be played on/around this piece alone!
-
It's just a side note but ... your sketch is :-*! Quite the artist!
-
That looks excellent, lovely work! :-*

It is drywall repair mesh (link (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/a-richard-6-inch-x-20-ft-drywall-repair-patch-mesh/1000752658)), which I trimmed to make it a look a bit more like wattle. Yes, it is a bit large; the base is about 25cm by 40cm. Too big really- not sure what I was thinking... ::)
-
Smashing ( lol),and great idea with the repair kit 8)
-
Looks awesome, well done.

I'm starting to get a bit nervous about getting this thing painted on time :-I but the bulk of the bottom floor is done- I just have to add a few easy details and add finer debris, which will go quickly.
Not entirely thrilled with the archway; it's is too wide for it's height and the stone facing is too big. It looks a bit like playmobile ::):
I am very happy with the stone staircase at the rear though. The door way I have is a little large but given this is for Mordheim, acceptable:
I have only a couple of small wall sections to finish off on the second floor, most it will be missing:
This end hasn't changed much since last update but I added a little more wood debris and fallen stone:
Over the week I expect to get the upper floor finished, a start on the roof (most of it will be missing too so shouldn't be too time consuming) and have it ready for primer by this time next week. two weeks to paint it shouldn't be problem...right?
-
Looks fantastic :-* :-* :-*
-
It's looking great.
-
Looks Great :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Be careful with spray primer around all that foam :D
-
Looks great. The doorway actually appears to be wide enough for a wagon - that's not a bad idea.
-
It’s looking really good 8)

Quite a bit of work went into it this past week. The roof is completed; doll house cedar shakes, split into halves and thirds- very tedious work o_o. The dormer was an after thought and it shows in the carpentry ::):
I added a small loft. There should be more of it but then there would have been even more issues using it as a playing piece:
The thing is kind of a beast; I'd include a figure for scale but it is a bit embarrassing. I guess it's not really fantasy though unless it has massive over sized features though :D:
Tomorrow I have to:
- - add small rubble and rock to the lower floor
- - add daub to the walls that don't have it
- - add a few more details
Ready for primer Tuesday, 12 days to paint. :o
Edit: actually, 11 days to paint I guess as the closing time is midnight, Mar 9th, GMT not local time...
-
That is beautiful work :-*
-
Damn that roof looks like fiddly work...well done sir.
-
Just caught up with this thread. I'll be following it with great interest! Cheers!
