We have had building work in the house for what seems ages and my wargames room has been used as the builder's store. So this project has not been photographed as it progressed. It is not quite finished (but then none of my projects ever seem to get finished). The majority of the figures are Warlord games plastics and a few metal. Many are conversions with a few from other ranges and even the odd fantasy figure. The Celtic opposition are under way now.
The right wing - the dismounted cavalry figures are at the rear alongside some Foundry Legionaries.

very impressive collection !

Roman armies always look good deployed en masse on a tabletop.

And then you'll need some more auxiliaries. Then some more missile troops. Then some more artillery. Then you'll need some more legionaries. Then comes the allies. Then the camp. If you have a camp. you might as well have a fort, then... Then you'll have to expand out to some naval troops. Of course they will need ships. Then ...

Brilliant work on such a large scale project. Looks great!
... and Wymers has a good point there....

And, of course, I'll need the opposition - Oh look there are several boxes of figures on the work table. I wonder what they are?
Goodness me - Celtic and Ancient Briton infantry, cavalry and chariots.

Oh, now that’s a shiny collection! What system do you play with them? I ask because I like the rather unorthodox basing.

Unorthodox? I'll take that as a compliment!
We play the games using a set of rules that a friend wrote way back in the 1970s for our fantasy/medieval/ancient rules to allow interchange of figures between settings (there a few fantasy figures lurking in the photos as characters). Base sizes are not specified because we use figures of all sorts of sizes from "true 25mm" to "heroic". There are even a few 20mm figures in some games as small size humanoids. We also occasionally use OGAM and Broken Legions.
Virtually all our newer foot figures are on 20mm round MDF bases while older ones will be seen on 15mm x 20mm rectangular card bases (or larger/smaller as the figure dictates).

Been a while since I did much with my Romans. Now added 2 of these home made carroballistae from odd bits and some mdf bases.

A most impressive spread. Nice work and thanks for sharing!

Magnificent!

That's wonderful...I saw you have Titus Pullo with the bullock cart rescuing Eirene!

Wow, very nice display!

Thanks for the kind words.
Though I do have Pullo and Vorenus but (as Republicans) they are not with this legion. They are destined to command my marines! My Legio VI Victrix is modelled for service after Claudius' invasion.

Fantastic effort 24 figs per cohort and a 1st century double cohort, reminds me of my WAB days
Cheers

:-* Wow ! Wish I could see it in higher res....looks superb....great work

Thanks for the kind words. You may be disappointed as my painting looks better from a distance and en masse.
If you PM me your email address I'll send some higher resolution pictures.

Nice job!

They look great. So many of us started wargaming with Romans and the dream of one day having a complete legion :)
Aren’t all those individual bases a pain to move though? It must slow the games down? Have you thought of investing in some sabot movement trays?

Thanks. I have lots of the plastic rectangular bases from various other sets. The figures are blue-tacked to these for big games.
We don't mind the pace of games being a bit slow, though, as the social aspect, banter, word play, grandad jokes etc slow it anyway!
