Title: Rogue Trader C100 Marines - a small platoon in progress.
Post by: Geckilian on January 03, 2020, 05:00:22 PM
It has certainly been a very, very long while since I've been on these boards. I figured this project would have a good home here.

Recently I painted a Brother Craig, or 'Johnny' as he's sometimes known, and it was great fun. So, I decided to dig through my older stuff and rustle up a small platoon for him to go along with. As it turns out I had just about enough C100 marines to give it a go.  I now have another regular C100, a Techmarine and a Medic in the post. Just need to sort a force weapon, and acquire a communications marine and I'm good to go in terms of bodies, though some spare marine crew too wouldn't go amiss.

I'm thinking of converting up a Contemptor Dreadnought to go with them, plus some little scout vehicles using the new GW ridgerunners as I like the aesthetic.

Cheers guys! I painted the first C100 marine this evening and I'm enjoying how he came out. The bigger lenses mean the green pops more and he fits pretty well on a 32mm base.

Over the weekend I'm aiming to paint 4 more to get the first squad of 5 finished up.

These look great. I really like your basing as well as it still looks appropriate for sci-fi but with more visual interest than just rocky barren ground.
I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks everyone! The comments are really motivating, cheers!

I managed to finish the next 4, so the first squad of 5 are done. That brings me up to 6 total infantry finished, with 14 left to go.

I'm still trying to source a Communications Marine and some of the upper torsos from bike riders to add to the scout vehicle(s). I think I've worked out what I'll make the 'big thing' to add to the army, should be pretty fun.

Glad to hear it!

I finished up the sarge for the second squad, on the right. Chopped his head and arm off to repose them a bit just to at least make it slightly different and only had to use a small amount of green stuff to change the central hose.

Also managed to get reasonably far on these next 4. Mostly metal/armour highlights left plus lenses and foliage to finish them up.

Cheers! I got the next batch finished quicker than anticipated. For the second sarge, on the right, I wanted a bit of variation to lopped off his head and arm for a bit of a pose change, then redid the central hose with a bit of greenstuff so it matched up.

I've had some luck sourcing models to help round out this army, so there's only a few things left to get if all goes well. Up next will probably be yet more infantry for now with the C100 captain among them.

Cheers guys - I certainly agree the sculpts aren't the sharpest, but I do love their charm.

Got a bit more done on the RT marine project - finished up possibly my favourite model of the army so far, a techmarine on quadbike.

The quadbike may not really be RT, but I love how well they go together.

Thanks, always enthusing to have encouragement!

Been soldiering on here and there and got 4 more basic dudes painted and also the (likely) leader of the force itself, the Librarian. I've not painted a power sword in a while, so I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. Does make me want to go buy an airbrush though, would have been quicker.

I also thought it'd be interesting taking pics of the painting process for the troopers during one session.

Splendid work. The quad and techmarine go together wonderfully.  8)

I also really like the way you have reversed the normal Librarian colour scheme, looks much better than the normal blue armour with odd panels in chapter colours.

Cheers everyone! Yeah, I elected not to go full blue for the Librarian as I figured it'd be a bit overwhelming considering the force is generally quite neutral in tone - the occasional spot colour of red or blue already stands out nicely.

I've been busy and managed to complete up the next part of the project, the first scout vehicle -

The plan is to have 4 of these total, as well as another 2 quad bikes to join the first one, though now I need to find more crew and riders. Haven't had much luck on the trading groups yet, but finger's crossed.

All that's left to paint now, from the initial plan, is 3 more Ridgerunners (which arrived this morning), 2 more Wolfquads (which are in the post), a Techmarine and a Medic, both of whom are on the painting block next.

If anyone sees some RT space marine bike riders around, let me know!

It occurs to me, I'm after 4 Ridgerunner wheels in my wanted trading post. If you're going to make yours hover...

I got the next two models done within my self-imposed deadline, as I wanted to get the Medic and Techmarine done before the weekend ended.

With any luck the Communications Marine and 2 quads will arrive soon, as well as the various other models and sundries on their way. I plan to space out the vehicles in between what's left, as painting the buggy was a bit of a chore.

Thanks Lost Egg!

I've continued to be busy and make progress on the project. I've painted up a second buggy, though I'm still waiting on the crewman to arrive in the post. Communications Officer Orinoco also arrived this morning, so I painted him up too - now the command squad is complete.

Certainly getting there! Most of what's next I'm waiting on to arrive, but I do need to look for the techmarine bike rider as well as all the other techmarines on foot as I do like the models.

Cheers everyone!

Managed to finish my third buggy (though I don't own a crewman for it yet) and added hazard markings to help differentiate them, since someone did mention they were a bit samey. Also painted up a crewman for the second with the lovely scanner.

Ideally I'll find the pointing bike rider torso to go with this third one.

With luck the quads should arrive soon, though understandably postage from Australia to the UK isn't the fastest! I already have one quad rider ready to be adjusted to fit, the medic - still need to acquire the techmarine with bolt pistol rider for the last quad.

After those there's just 1 buggy to go, so I'm getting there which is pretty exciting.

I can't quite believe the speed and quality of your painting...I'm working on a platoon of marines and after just over a month I have 1.7 marines finished :D

Lovely use of the hazard stripes and the old crewmen take me back.

Speed is one of the few things going for my painting, heh. Cheers, I'm pretty happy with how the hazards came out especially.

This feels like an Oldhammer mini since it's also Bob Naismith, but it's from the Cobalt-1 line of models. Got this guy a very long time ago and found him whilst digging out the minis for my RT marine project. As such he's now painted up as an Adeptus Mechanicus-esque person. He'll get a couple of robots in the same scheme and be an ally for my marines.

You are so doing a wonderful job on all of these oldies! 8)

Seeing you speed through an entire army like this is rekindling my appetite for finishing my own RT era SM army.

I too have a maniple of Robots to join my marines, but sadly still unpainted. I was going to use them as Terminators, but then; I was working towards using 5th ed 40K rules at the time, so by now, I might field them as something else instead (like, actual robots) ::)

Do you have the original robots, or will you be using suitable other miniatures?
Title: Re: Rogue Trader C100 Marines - a small platoon in progress.
Post by: Geckilian on January 17, 2020, 01:47:44 PM
Thanks all! Hincmar, the buggies are Achillies Ridgerunners from Games Workshop - part of the Genestealer Cultist line. Same with the quadbike, it's a Wolfquad, part of the Atalan Jackals bikers box.

I sadly don't have original robots Daeothar, the plan is to pair some newer Kastelans with him and use him as a Datasmith(?) to lead them. If all goes well, the eventual role of Terminators is going to be filled with something else for me.

It'd be good to see more RT marines painted in general, they're charming, if quite janky, sculpts!
Title: Re: Rogue Trader C100 Marines - a small platoon in progress.
Post by: Geckilian on January 19, 2020, 01:06:34 AM
I'm finally free from painting Ridgerunners, as the 4th is now done. Still need crew, but soon hopefully.

Now I just need to wait for the 2 quadbikes to arrive and obtain the mounted Techpriest as well as two more suitable crew and the base army project is done!

To expand I'll be painting up, at some point, 2 robots, up to 5 more C100's (of which I own 3), and if I can get hold of any, the other 5 techmarines on foot. SHould all that be managed, then I'll consider the flyer and maybe other ways to expand. Essentially though, just 2 quad bikes away from 'done'.

The grav tank will always be a classic. It was quite tempting to make one for the army after some suggestions of it.

I've recently been painting some fantasy chaotic warband members and a Blood Bowl team whilst waiting for the last bits of this army to arrive, and everything has now with the exception of a rider techmarine with pistol who I still need to source. However as I finished the BB team, it's partially back to these guys and I did at the least get a second quadbike painted today -

The medic rider's waiting for his turn on the painting bench and after him there's just 1 quad (and rider if I can nab one) left to go and this army is essentially 'done', though there are 4 more marines I could add...

Thanks everyone! I certainly like the 32mm bases mainly as it gives more space to frame the model yeah, I doubt it's my basing Ragsta!

I got a bit more done amidst some other projects - the third, last, quad bike is now painted, as well as the medic rider for the second. I've yet to get a techmarine rider with bolt pistol so the third quad is likely to be riderless for a while. Ultimately then I'm about 5 infantry models away from calling the army essentially 'done'.
