Surprised there is so little chat about plastic soldier company not only releasing their own 15mm plastic ancients, but also having bought the rights to the corvus belli range to also redo in plastic....
Seems an awesome time for an ancient gaming renaissance....
-
I hadn't even heard about this. Thanks Tallyho
-
I thought the same thing when Warlorad Games took over Cutting Edge Miniatures.
-
Im holding my breath for Corvus Belli Romans and Cartaginians in Ultracast.
-
Redoing Corvus Belli in plastic? That sounds interesting and quite promising. Thanks for the find!
-
If I have read correctly they are also going to produce Xyston figures in plastic ;D

So they say, and after Corvus Belli.
As I have read, Ultracast it is made from the same moulds for metal figures, and the resulting plastic is hard but not totally hard. According to them, this is done on purpose so spears bend instead of snap.
15mm ancient plastics is my dream came true, but I'll wait until a customer gives a proper review about their quality.

There's have been pictures of the Goths on Facebook and the look pretty good.
I'm assuming PSC are using this https://www.siocast.com/
Looks very interesting I would have loved to invest for my figures bu the £30k+ price tag was a bit out of my league..
So provided PSC do,a half decent job of the mould making these should be pretty awesome.
Xyston announced they will still be casting the figures in metal so got their options covered

It's 35 GBP per box with 128 miniatures, expensive when compared with any WWII box. For example, their Earluy War German infantry 15mm box contains 138 miniatures and it is 22.95 GBP: https://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/product/15mm-early-war-german-infantry-1939-42-2/ (https://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/product/15mm-early-war-german-infantry-1939-42-2/)

I've searched the internet for information about this new Ultracast stuff, but all I've found is see through resin. Where did you find out about it?

I am guessing that has more to do with production runs costs with the WWII subject probably having a much higher sales ratio compared to the ancients in 15's .... at least initially :-)

You can also get a whole platoon's worth of WW2 figures (with integral support weapons) on a couple of sprues, and as WW2 players are I suspect generally always buying infantry in platoons/companies so you can crank them out as box sets with 120+ figures and everyone will be happy* with the mix in the box.
Generally Ancients is much more a unit-by-unit purchase so whilst an 'army in a box' might work for someone getting a new army it would need to be keenly enough priced to allow for some wastage in order to work for someone tinkering with their army list, or morphing some of their existing figures and buying a handful more to turn an existing army into a different one.
If you look at the 28mm plastic ancients, the 'irregular' armies of Vikings and Gauls the like are sold in as big a pack size as 48's, but lots of the others are set up in 24's (or lower) or specific troop types - GB's Romans and maybe some of the Fireforge models are the only ones I can think of with different troop types (spears & bowmem) cast on the same sprue.
Add in how unit sizes can differ quite dramatically by ruleset as well and it will be interesting to see how PSC choose how to set up sprues and cast and package some of these plastics together compared to their WW2 ranges. Hopefully they set up the sprues for single-type figures so they can sell in smaller batches, as it would be great to see CB figures back on the tabletop
(* Yes, there will always be someone... thats wargamers, I know...)

If I remember correctly, I read about it in their Facebook page: =68.ARDom4VHJ4Nls_DyUD2i-VVeBqZca-w3WV8IuOuJ9fhuN9z1FgJYxnTdDq5y0bKA1s-kTDNRLx8UwCsR3vdF-Ok3o3iIp9nET-5WvoC5Pgs3Hmo96m6b6de365PoBIREzz0J75eFtPD3npQSeEeXrAOX6Q07g6g8YMZ_FcHo1mfHdcHTo0hnZnA0NeyfoNlx8HQnNU1LlVh8ttHGEWTJ2suq5cjEt0DM2vHqeAusDQqDBUr_vyp0qptS88A4jmCIq7Btkie2E2XJ_JGv8lOlmfnk356LHKqwzOMoDix46ObTRnkEJR4elBR4Z8wHpxjxokpcxDHjE9gefdUJ_8J4DER0u-vWuyzTog]https://www.facebook.com/ThePlasticSoldierCompany/?__tn__=kC-R&eid=ARCn3Tu3TeUx7TzMNY2eKH8v-RIpHg6On903Rk76dFjRwTi-8z5b4LovpiP6GliXQNk0G4TrCDV5_53a&hc_ref=ARRDKUV5b9GZTWNI7LmYK1P7UiW6QDpxFWirWNUuXTbCW39SSJ4EiqOSO7j9i6x-KTI&fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARDom4VHJ4Nls_DyUD2i-VVeBqZca-w3WV8IuOuJ9fhuN9z1FgJYxnTdDq5y0bKA1s-kTDNRLx8UwCsR3vdF-Ok3o3iIp9nET-5WvoC5Pgs3Hmo96m6b6de365PoBIREzz0J75eFtPD3npQSeEeXrAOX6Q07g6g8YMZ_FcHo1mfHdcHTo0hnZnA0NeyfoNlx8HQnNU1LlVh8ttHGEWTJ2suq5cjEt0DM2vHqeAusDQqDBUr_vyp0qptS88A4jmCIq7Btkie2E2XJ_JGv8lOlmfnk356LHKqwzOMoDix46ObTRnkEJR4elBR4Z8wHpxjxokpcxDHjE9gefdUJ_8J4DER0u-vWuyzTog (https://www.facebook.com/ThePlasticSoldierCompany/?__tn__=kC-R&eid=ARCn3Tu3TeUx7TzMNY2eKH8v-RIpHg6On903Rk76dFjRwTi-8z5b4LovpiP6GliXQNk0G4TrCDV5_53a&hc_ref=ARRDKUV5b9GZTWNI7LmYK1P7UiW6QDpxFWirWNUuXTbCW39SSJ4EiqOSO7j9i6x-KTI&fref=nf&__xts__[0)

Their boxes will be released for Morten and Gloriam, with one, two or three boxes needed for small, medium or big armies for that ruleset. Depending on wich army, you can get an Art of War army with just one of those boxes.
Me and a friend are planning to order one box of Romans and one box of Cartaginian each, so we'll both have two DBA armies and small ADLG armies as well, and a big army when we meet and put our armies together.

A rather poor picture of somebof the plastic Goths
-
yep, basically the Lurkio figures redone in plastic, and they look jolly nice.
-
They are the Lurkio figures, with some new sculpts mixed in from the same sculptor (Late Romans). This is what they said on the FB page. Make sense considering Lurkio is now under the same chap who wrote Mortem et Gloriam.
-
Its resin tho.. right? Not plastic. So regular spincast production, vs injection mold process.
-
No definitely not spin cast if you watch the promo video from the machine makers - uses a product called thermos plastic!
-
Semi rigid plastic apparently.

Might Lurkio Han Chinese be among PSC's future releases ...?
-
I look forward to these, all of them, it will be nice to see ancients well molded in a decent plastic.....waiting with baited breath.................
