Nicely done, should be a match for that rebel scum :)

Very nice.

-
They look great, very nicely done
-
Not intending to be a "button counter", because they look great, but I am not sure that would be the proper flag for them. Since one of the reasons for the rebellion was the dissolution of the 1824 Mexican Constitution by Santa Anna, they may not have been fighting under that flag. BUT....maybe they didn't get the memo from El Presidente!

Looking great 8)

Stunning work.
I have memories playing with Airfix French Napoleonics against Cowboys as a child after watching the original 1960 Alamo movie to try and recreate the battle.
Your miniatures here, may well, make me want to revisit this potential period...

I did that too! Made a makeshift Alamo out of cardboard boxes and every bit of stockade fence and old west buildings I had. Timpo amd Atlantic Texans against French Napoleonic Airfix Mexicans!
Happy days! :)

I think many of us are trying desperately, with the likes of what we do here on LAF, to rekindle our childhoods. Happy days indeed.

These are amazing! I particularly liked the close ups, which will help me improve my own highlighting techniques.
Are you using a specific subset of Sharp Practice for the period, or just DIY?
-
Great to see coverage of what seems a very overlooked conflict imo.
I am rather befuddled why thats the case, lots written about, especially the seige and assault of the alamo which happened twice, first the Texians attacking and Mexicans defending, then in true wargame style switched it round.
Lovers of AWI, you've ragged band of revolutionarys with a kind of uniform but mostly Sunday Best wearing outfit and some help by a foriegn power from across the border.
Napoleonics, the Grand Army of the Napoleon of the West.
And very overlooked, even scope for some Naval Wargaming with the Lone Star Navy V Mexican Fleet.
More than one grand epic film and series covering it, for inspiration to keep a project from flagging.
But if I could ask for some help to check a few things.
I've picked up Texicana (Volume 1), and when the Mexicans sent a force to recover the Gonzales cannon they were comprised of Dragoons, but there seems little description of the unfiorm of the Dragoons, or is Dragoons simply another way of saying Light Cavalry?
Also, has anyone wargammed the Naval conflicts and is there a good ruleset for the Brig and Frigate sized actions with Steam Power, which is I belive notable in its own right as a the singular conflict in which a Fleet under Sail defeated (at least in part) a Steam Powered Navy.
Thanks.

Thé Mexican regular cavalry are often described as dragoon’s, but in reality comprised light cavalry armed with Lance and or carbine. They did most of their fighting on horseback and were skilled lancers. Probably some of Santa Anna’s better troops. Their uniform is red tunic with green facings and a dragoon style helmet with horsehair comb which probably leads to the confusion. There were no heavy cavalry present in the 1836 campaign.
The only other mounted troops in the Mexican army were the Presidial garrisons, These were mostly used as scouting cavalry (as was the regular cavalry) and were dressed in blue tunic and wide brimmed, black Spanish style hats. These were also Lance and carbine armed.
The Texas revolution is in my opinion a very overlooked conflict, The Alamo overshadows just about every engagement in the war (which is brief to say the least) and I don’t think many people look beyond that. It is ideally suited to war gaming with the relatively small numbers involved in just about every battle. There is the siege of San Antonio, Colonel Fannin forming a square at Coleto Creek, Houston’s victory at San Jacinto and many smaller engagements that are perfect for large skirmish games...

Yes indeed, the Texas Revolution is among the most appealing periods for large scale skirmish actions, and the characterful Boot Hill miniatures capture the period brilliantly. 8)
Cheers,

I had a look, & I agree they are 'jolly nice', but I have a hankering
for earlier Indians. I mean before they started getting firearms,
when they were lance, shield & bow cavalry.

From my memory and without digging the figures out there are only a handful with repeating rifles or revolvers. I am not sure if Warlord Games has the entire range, but most were open handed and you could add anything you wanted from the selection of hand weapons and shields provided. (I use mine for 1830s games and there are plenty to choose from with bows and lances.)
Here they are in action:

Very nice minis! I especially like the Mexicans in summer uniform. Where did you get the two-starred Coahuila y Tejas flag?

Played a large Texan War of Independence game a little while back against my Geoff Bond and with Jeff Davies acting as GM.

Lots of musket and cannon ball fire from both sides, began to take its toll on several units. For some reason, Geoff's elite infantry got caught up near the bordello for several turns

To block the Mexican advance, the Texans formed up in close order, pouring round after round into the advancing horde.

Right good lookin' game there, Boyo! Well done!
I have a question, though. Wheredja get that monastery? My wargame buds and I are putting together a scenario/game based on The US Marines attacking the Bashir's palace in The Wind and the Lion, and that monastery might work for the palace...

Superb looking game, deeply envious :-*

New Orleans Greys. The Greys were a military volunteer unit of two militia companies that totaled about 120, formed in the city of that name for service in the Texas War of Independence. Their name came from its soldiers' grey military fatigues.
