Title: Royal and Urban Gunpowder Weapons in Late Medieval England...
Post by: Condottiere on January 18, 2020, 03:28:17 AM
Dan Spencer's Royal and Urban Gunpowder Weapons in Late Medieval England (https://boydellandbrewer.com/royal-and-urban-gunpowder-weapons-in-late-medieval-england-hb.html) came out late last year, though not sure why it's priced at $90, when the similar sized The Artillery of the Dukes of Burgundy, 1363-1477 (https://boydellandbrewer.com/the-artillery-of-the-dukes-of-burgundy-1363-1477-hb.html), is only $50.  :? I have the latter and was looking for reviews of the former, when I stumbled on the author's thesis, The Development of Gunpowder Weapons in Late Medieval England (https://eprints.soton.ac.uk/398051/1/Final%2520version%2520of%2520thesis%2520%2528library%2520copy%2529.pdf), which might to be the "rough" version of the published book - the table of contents is almost identical.

Good find, thanks.
I may buy it anyway at some stage - I just like the convenience of a book. And I feel a little guilty about not paying for all that research!
The Dukes of Burgundy book is actually longer than Spencer's - I guess the publisher reckons DeVries and Smith's names will sell more copies than Spencer's. Or maybe they don't need the cash as much!
Whatever the reason it looks like an interesting read.
Thanks again.
