I picked up a basic set of Chinese PLA lunar troops at Salute a couple or more years ago, picked up the US starter set last year, and finally begun doing some assembly.
Here is my PLA force with support vehicle. Base coat is the usual Halfords grey primer then a contrast paint wash over them, add details and call it done.
Vehicle weapons are magnetised for gameplay.

The first completed model from the US lunar marines.

Can I ask why you have based them in pairs
I was thinking of basing mine on single washers

Yes, interesting. It begs the question, what rules will you be using? I think someone else mentioned moongrunt in a similar post. Is this the beginning of a wave of moongrunt? I haven’t painted the few bits I have yet, apart from GZG’s pre moongrunt pressure suited crew. Maybe that is a project for later this year. I will watch how you get on. Nice work on the Chinese.
-
Cheers both. I did the 2p bases as I picked up AK47 at the same time and was going to use something like it for rules.
As is usual for my local club, if it doesn't come complete in a box no-one else will casually buy in so I have to provide both sides, rules and scenery if I want a game. :-[
-
They look very nice. I feel a little bit retro, when I see them in these times of 40K. Interesting project
-
Nice :)
The contrast paints work well for the scale.
-
Chasing that feverish dream of a completed army (HAH!) I've already re-based the Chinese PLA Space Force.

The current Opfor, US Lunar Marines with the easiest paint job ever. Spray white, contrast Apothecary White and paint the visors gold and a dash of colour to the shoulder pads.

and their ride, scout buggy and the beginnings of a support weapon section

All the vehicle weapons are magnetised and can be played with.
-
Nice, the vehicles are top notch :-*
-
This is very cool. I must pick up my moongrunt project - using Contrast is a good shout.
-
I like what you have done with the spare rocket pack mount and the US figures also look good, despite the simple scheme. As a result I have broken out a couple of packs of Chinese and painted them up myself. I am in the process of painting them too. No vehicles yet. I will remedy that at Salute.
-
Cheers all!
Salute will be my go-to this year as well, more Chinese vehicles and another 6 wheeler for the US.
I've also looked at the civilians they offer for Stargrunt to make an independant faction. Just need to browse the vehicle section (again) for ideas! :D
-
Looking good your figures are looking great
I have bought the British and to be honest I am not that impressed by them maybe better when I get some paint on them? The vehicle are nice though
-
Both forces look very good. My one quibble is that the PLA vehicle's yellow color scheme looks a little bright for a military vehicle (more civilian utility), though very well painted and "weathered" (funny adjective to use where there is no weather !).
-
Looking really great, I like your colors very much they work well together and the color for your windows gives them that "Not to far in our Future" look.
-
Cheers all!

I’ve done a few of those, armed and unarmed. I borrowed the scenery from my youngest sons school project a couple of years ago:
-
Nice!! :D
-
Nice work.
-
Lovely work all round
-
That's a great little set up.
-
At the risk of hijacking the thread, I have just finished some Chinese GZG figures. No more to hand until after Salute. I might try and build some craters for some game scenery. Big craters...but I will start my own thread for all that!:

Nice moon scenery, I'm still umm-ing ang ahh-ing over how to approach my moon terrain and what finish to go with.

The latest mats are so good, but I just can’t get around a need for 3D craters. My photo only shows a mini (pizza base) board for one of the children’s school project. I doubt I would do something like this for a full game, but some BIG (and small) craters on a grey cloth with some grey sand scatter...maybe?
-
Amera do a good variety of craters and they're quite cheap, plus light to carry about.
Don't bother with the single set they advertise as moon craters -- that's the disappointing one (very low relief). All the other blast craters, impact craters, cliffs, crags, islands and so on are great. Coat them in fine sand, airbrush them to give harsh shadows, perfect.
For moon-base buildings, I went with Alternative Armies. They have a nice range of modular corridor-and-tower 15mm bits.

Oh yes. I have the Alternative Armies modular buildings. They are brilliant for this. I will have to have another look at Amera, but I am thinking about some building at least one truly “massive” crater 90cm wide (well, massive on a 4x6 or 6x8 table) out of insulation foam, and some more in the 30-60 range, but that’s for the summer. I will still need more mini craters though.
-
What first was a minor bit of flag waving soon devolved into armed incursions and open conflict. The 227th Lunar Marines defend their launch vehicle from the rockets of the PDRC 2nd Lunar Force.
Now with a couple of boards finished, just 25 x 25cm dense foam.

I'm keeping this slowly rolling forwards!

board looking good, I need to dig my moon boards out of the loft
Vehicle looking good, like the yellow :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Lovely ideas in this thread.
-
Very nice.
-
Cheers all. :D
@Colin, the yellow was the easiest thing to do, undercoat white then splash Nazdreg Yellow contrast paint over it, done. Contrast is really good for this scale.

Next up, from the background for Moongrunt, the Chinese PLA are the invasion force so I wanted to think about what kind of craft would be used to get Chinese forces to the moon.
Stage 1:
Take the current PLA rover, stick it on some upturned 1/48 russian tank track covers.
Stage 2:
I want to use triangular shapes rather than the US approach of 4 legs. Also started to figure out the placement of the landing engines.
Stage 3:
Got a cargo, got engines, need fuel tanks, bigguns.
Stage 4:
Putting some kind of frame together with landing legs and the US ship in the distance.
Further stages as I make them up.
-
Looking good where did you get the two engines?

Looking good where did you get the two engines?
Cheers. 3d printed them on my Ender 3. The files are free from thingiverse.
-
Ingenious!
-
I'm liking where this is heading.
-
Now working out where things are going and starting to add some bulk.
The main fuel tanks are placed but not fixed yet.

The personnel exit from the habitation sphere.

A closer view of the vehicle area, personnel ladder and engines.(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/45/4157-140420220738-456291552.jpeg)
Soon I will block off the horizontal tubes and start adding pipes and other details to the body.
-
Lovely :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I TAKE IT THE LADDER IS 3D PRINTED

Nope, just a HO scale ladder and cage. Couple of pounds from Gaugemaster.
-
Now that's pretty cool!
-
I think it's about done.

With better weather, paint will be applied and I can see what else may be needed.
Watch this space!
-
Don't you mean "Waaaaaaaatch thisssss Spaaaaaacce" ;D
Looks good :)
-
nice :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Cannot wait for better weather where you are.
-
It was a sunny day, so I have managed to lay down three undercoats.
Here is a setup of some finished boards, the US and PLA, and the PLA lander with vehicle cargo.

The PLA primary moon lander.

Realistic lander, or how to glue your balls together!
Another white coat is needed, then hopefully my PLA flag transfers will be delivered and some livery can be applied.
-
Great! Hope to see it live
-
Fantastic setting! :-* 8) :-*

GREAT SET UP :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
