Recently moved house and I am now fortunate to have a room dedicated to wargaming.
As we are gradually working through the house decorating each room, the wargaming room is next in line. So I am looking for ideas for the decor? I was just thinking light blue walls as a “sky” backdrop for photos of games but other thoughts would be welcome.

Sounds great! just to be clear, I presume this is a room for gaming rather than painting/modelling? Either way lighting is important (although this may be beyond the scope of "decorating"). A vaguely sky colour for the walls sound like a good plan. Display cabinets with the armies on parade might set the tone as well as being handy for deployment. Bookshelf for rule sets could also look good and be convenient.
Art probably depends on your wargaming genres of choice: ancient greek pots featuring battling hoplites and/or a print of the box art from the first plastic space marine box set?
Maybe medals won by relatives (or you!) or other memorabilia? If you have a French Eagle captured by an ancestor during the Napoleonic wars I suggest it goes in this room, for example.
If you are considering furniture I think it is useful to have some areas away from the gaming table to put stuff (books and soldiers but also cups of tea!).
Not sure any of that helps if you are just trying to choose a shade of wall paint, but good luck!

I’ve opted for a few military pics (mostly mid C17th) suitably framed plus some appropriate sketches from the Illustrated London News found on eBay (Sudan and North West Frontier) which I also. had framed. Have left space for a campaign map if needed.

I should say I have a few military pictures and maps as well as bookcases full of books (some of which I have actually read!) rules and box files full of figures that won’t fit in the display cabinet which the previous owners left behind that has proved handy. One wall is all fitted cupboards which I can assure you is not full of wargaming clutter.
I expect I will go for a light colour to maximise the light as I do my painting in there as well.

I don’t think the budget or my DIY skills will stretch to that Keith. But nice idea.

Looks okay. The wife has talked me into one wall having a Laura Ashley wallpaper o_o Not so warlike but maybe giving an eighteenth century flavour where the majority of my wargaming interests reside :)

I quite like it. As long as the rest of your walls are white-ish and your lighting is good, photography shouldn't be a problem, especially if you are using a tripod.

I do too. But I suspect the light is slightly affected by it. Oh well, I can take some half decent photos if I fiddle about. And I'll probably make a sky backdrop at some stage...

A sky back drop that is light in colour, lots of white fluffy clouds is a good idea. I take all my pictures in my daughter's room which is a dark blue; I use a piece of un-primed drywall board with some light grey clouds painted on it as a back drop and my pictures turn out fine. Some times I lighten them up a bit in editing but most of the time not.

Btw the cupboards at the back have no hidden away wargaming clutter.
