Restarting my SAGA factions. This first will be King Diwrnach and his Bloodshields from Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles. First up is Diwrnach himself, to help set the tone of the faction. Although he is identified as an Irish invader to Wales, Im setting it up using the Scot faction board. Cornwell talks a lot about spears and formations.

Thanks Mates! I have a group already cleaned and armed with javelins, with some basic color on them. I plan to repaint their clothes in black and very dark brown or grey. Keep the faction in those colors. Like with this model, ill use greenstuff to make skin covers, for other shields ill wash them in Tamayia Clear Red with large sections of black added. Im thinking more elite models will have more skin covers.

It was nothing more than a very thin layer of greenstuff, a small screwdriver head to make the stitches and then cutting up the parts. For the face and hand, i used plastic zombie parts and really shaved them down to give a more boneless look. Does that help?
EDIT:
This was my first try. The zombie bits were not sanded low enough so I popped them off and sanded them more. Then I used about half this amount of GS. Tried to make it smother before I cut in stitches and lines.

I have been playing the Scots board, too, lately. I'm using it for the Pictish armies of the Viking age. They are VERY tough. The strength of your army is definitely your Warriors armed with "long spears"...though it obviously doesn't matter. And don't discount the potential of the "Reach" battle board ability. I like to envision it as the formation moving forward, jabbing with their spears, then moving back.

Thanks for the tips! The board looks good, and really fits more to the description of fighting style that Cornwell gave in his books. Spears.

So.... mistakes were made. First, I based him on a 5cm base instead of a 6cm base which for Warlords is better for SAGA. Second, when I went to remove the figure.... the freakin horse broke at the ankles in a such a way that I did not trust pinning. Luckily I have a few spare horses and one I think fits even better. From the description in the books Diwrnach was not rash, but instead a patient opponent. The first horse was running, while this one is standing in a manner that I could see such a careful and patient commander leading his band from. So mixed blessing?
