After painting a force of Hungarians for Bolt Action I was supposed to start painting my Baron's War pledge. I had the first models primed and blue tacked on bottle caps for painting. Then came my Anno Domini All In pledge.
I was so inspired by the models so I had to paint a couple. And so now I'm working with two factions of the game.
Initially I was blaming my self for not taking the metal pledge, but albeit being a little soft to my tastes, the plastic models have very nice details and take paint really well. So overall I'm really happy with the stuff I got.
Enough talk here is the first two of the Ottoman faction I painted.
First Hatmi the bodyguard:

Then Bajuk Ahmed Aga the band leader

The bases have only paint and tufts on them. I was thinking of clear bases, but the original seems to work surprisingly well with just paint.
Last a buddy shot of the two. This time Hatmi has some gloss varnish applied to his skin, to make him look more sweaty. I think I might have overdone that. Poor light placement in the picture makes him shine even more.

Once again, I can't wait to paint more!
That's always a good sign.

Very, very, cool.

Nice job!
I'm about 9 guys into a collection of about 40. I love these guys.
-
These are great. I've struggled to work out what the item is that is stuck through Hatmi's flesh - the artwork shows a key (if I recall correctly) but I think it's something different on the model ... but I don't know what!
-
Thanks for the comments. The thing going through Hatmi's skin looked like a chain. I painted it as such.
Cheers

I saw it as a chain, as well.
Strange. I don't get these guys with things shoved through their skin.

Here's another one: Mr.Deli.

Only three janissaries left to paint the it's time for Spaniards.

Lovely miniatures, great paint job! Really like that evil Ibrahim :o
-
With the painting of these three Janissaries the Ottoman faction is now ready to hit the tabletop (or the gameboard in the case of AD1666).

And a group shot of the whole lot.

That was a fun little side project. I still need to paint another faction to play the game. So next up are the Spaniards. I'm hoping to get started with them this weekend.

Lovely painting on some very nice sculpts. :-* :-* Are they 28mm?
-
Thanks. They indeed are 28mm.
-
The faction looks brilliant! I really look forward to seeing what you do with the Spanish.

It occurred to me, while watching Monk re-runs, that your shiny guy looks odd because he is glossy almost everywhere. He should be matte, like the other minis, everywhere except in a the places that get sweaty such as forehead, maybe chest (maybe not). Perhaps some armpit discoloration, too.
Just my thoughts.
Great job on these minis!
-
Great work!
-
The Spanish. They are almost as fun to paint as the Ottomans.

Simply brilliant.
-
Great job!
I especially like the guy with the dagger behind the hat and your tercio-musketeers. They turned out better than mine.
Any tips for getting in there and layering those tiny, hard to reach faces? I'm having a very hard time with them.
-
Beautiful!
-
Thank you all for your kind comments.
@ErikB: No tips as such for painting faces. I use Vallejo medium flesh tone followed with Army Painter soft tone wash. Then I just add layers of thinned medium flesh tone with basic flesh tone increasingly added to the mix. Some times I add a bit of red in one of the layers. The faces are the part I like to paint the most so I like to put some extra effort to it.
Here are latest additions to the Spanish faction.
Sancho Pancha

I am still very impressed by your clean painting style and the hands and faces, especially.
I don't like painting those much, I'm more into the clothing and trying to tease out highlights and shadows on it. I guess I should slow down and learn to master skin colors.
-
With me it is the other way round. Mostly painting everything else is job that must be done before I can paint the face.
I usually paint the skin bits last.
Thanks for your compliments. And you are absolutely right about Hatmi. He shines too much. I think I need to apply a coat of antishine on him and then just ad a little of gloss varnish to the forehead.
-
Lovely painting. I'm in the excruciating part of the process where I'm still waiting for my delivery. I feel that I am dead last on KS delivery every time!
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the plastics as I went all in on the plastics. I really love those bright colors on the janissaries.
Very nice painting. Thanks for sharing!
-
Your work on these is really excellent. I've just got started on them myself (painting one of the thugs from the core box last night). I'll remember this thread so I can use some of your colours, I think! :-)
-
Lovely looking figures ;D
-
Thanks gents!
Here are the last two of the Spanish faction

Now it's time for a couple of games of AD 1666 before painting some more of these. I think my Baron's war miniatures will start to revolt if more figures cut the painting cue. ;D
-
lovely job.
look fantastic all together in that group pic.
-
Superb painting my friend. I can't wait to get hold of the game my self. I didn't join the Kickstarter so I have to wait for the game I store. Should be two more weeks according to Wargamer.
I see you have a Spanish faction. How many different factions are there?
Cheers
Erik

I'm counting 8 + the Cardinal's men from the Kickstarter.
The Musketeers, The Polish Crown, The Order of the Broken Cross, Veterans of the Tercios (Spaniards), Envoys of the High Porte (Ottomans), Bohun's rebels, The Witchhunters and The Viennese mafia (They come in the same supplement)
I got the all in pledge. :D
-
Now I want to go learn Spanish.
-
Top notch. Excited to get my parcel from the KS.

We played a two game mini campaign with my son. I was playing the Spanish and my son the Ottoman faction.
First both factions were trying to recover a ring from a cave by searching corpse piles. The bad thing was that the cave was a home to a terrible monster, so both teams had to act quick and silently.
(http://i.imgur.com/lOsD11z.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/lOsD11z)
El Capitan got lucky and found the ring from the second corpse pile. Then it was a race to get of board before the Ottomans would close in. The first game ended with a marginal Spanish victory. El Capitan managed to escape, but had to leave the rest of the team behind to the mercy of the monster and the Ottomans. Which ever is worse.
(http://i.imgur.com/IUr6rFO.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/IUr6rFO)
The second game was an ambush. The Spanish were trying to send the ring to their masters by a carrier pigeon. The Ottomans had planned an ambush to get the ring.
(http://i.imgur.com/Kqpm6vx.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/Kqpm6vx)
Again it was a close call. The Spanish managed to send the ring, but were almost slaughtered to a man. Only Sancho Pancha was clever enough to survive. His attempts to beg for mercy succeeded stunningly well. Then the cunning little man surprised and clubbed down while laying prone the only opponent that saw trough his pleads of mercy and escaped to the alleys just before the city guards came to arrest the rest of the Ottomans.
(http://i.imgur.com/mPwIAMF.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/mPwIAMF)
Both games were fun. They could have gone either way. The conclusions came on the last rounds. There was a little of rulebook reading during the game, but much less in the second game. There were lot's of cool duels and surprises on both sides. Can't wait to play more.
-
Thanks! Good to hear it plays well. Hopefully my set will soon arrive.
For those of you who have received your KS, did you receive a shipping notice in advance or did it just arrive unannounced, a lovely surprise, in the post?

How complex did you find the rules? I often have so little time to game that crunchier games become a chore since I've forgotten so much since I last played.
I prefer elegant simple games that reward clever play without penalizing those who haven't memorized the rulebook too heavily.
-
Gorgeous minis and your and high quality paint job!
I'll be following this thread! Cheers!

There are quite a lot of little rules for abilities on the models, but none of them, in my opinion, is game breaking. In the first game we forgot a few of those, but in second game, albeit changing force compositions (so there were different little rules), things went more smoothly. I think that the core mechanics are quite nice, simple and still innovative. And all the small rules for the faction are printed on the backside of the faction sheet. So one can refer to them quite easily. A table contents would have been a nice addition to the rulebook and the player aid sheet could have been better.
-
Wonderful shots of the table. The games look like fun, varied scenarios. I just got notice my shipment comes in next tuesday. (3/17)
Looking forward to 'all in' fun.
-
Excellent write up of your games.
Am waiting for my game to arrive.
Your figures look great.

Excellent write up and wonderfully painted figures. Hoping to receive my All-In Kickstarter package in April.
