Title: RACM32's 3D printing adventures
Post by: racm32 on March 22, 2020, 03:52:10 AM
In Dec 2018 I began my journey in 3d Printing to aid in my wargaming hobby. Now I dont have any CAD skills or time to invest in learning. Actually a lack of time is one of the big reasons I have turned to 3D printing for generating terrain over more traditional methods. Printing allows me to make terrain while I am busy at work (active duty military) or spending time with family (wife, two boys under age of 6, and a dog) and dedicate hobby time to painting. Now over the last year and a half I have amassed quite the collection of printed terrain items so I thought I'd start this running thread to share and keep track of them all. Many have already made it into different sub-threads on this forum and I'll continue posting where relevant. But this will also have everything along with lessons learned, painting and modeling techniques I have picked up, and general discussion about 3D printing and our hobby.

First I'll start with one of my most recently finished peaces of terrain. I found this Warhammer inspired statue on Thingivers (where I get most my stuff) and though it would go great in so many different fantasy and sci-fy games I play. It did need to be printed with some supports which have often given me issues in the past (mainly with removing them cleanly). Fortunitly all the the supports on the upper areas came away cleanly and I am quite happy with the quality of print.
For painting I decided to make it almost all stone with a few weathered bronze bits. Weathering bronze is something new I have started trying. On this print I chose to have the tarnished bronze stain the statue in a few places where running water has taken it. Linke to the files can be found after photos.

I finished these two buildings earlier this year. I must confess the first one is not my favorite paint job. I think have the red brick and the red tile roof is too much red, might try repainting the roof to be slate and see if I like it better.

The second one on the other hand I am quite happy with all around, with the exception of its size. Its a bit small to use the inside but otherwise looks fine on the table.

I recently finished painting, from my 3D printed backlog, this amazing set of raised terrain by terrain4print. If left un glued you have a huge number of options for how you lay it out. I also finished up a test set up ruins and a summoning circle. The ruined walls are also very customizable. All 3 from Thingivers.

Link for summoning circle: Couldn't find/remember where I got it from.

Loads of photos of it all in different arrangements and close up on my blog: https://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.com/2020/03/fantasy-terrain.html (https://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.com/2020/03/fantasy-terrain.html)

Some may have seen this coastal fort I printed from Laser Dream Works.
