Title: First..spend no money (it's an apocalypse you know)
Post by: Chimpfoot on April 01, 2020, 07:11:42 PM
Sooo...paraphrasing the Hippocratic oath so it's more in line with the 'wargamers who can't go to work oath' thought I would see what I could make with just the things I already own. I know..weird.
But any who my beautiful wife seems to have run out of jobs for my lockdowned ass to do so finally got around to doing a bit.

Bit of scenery, all made from scraps and bits lying around, toy car painted and wrecked and two salty looking dudes ready for the wasteland zone. Richards with fowling piece (solid slugs only please) and Barnes with 50.cal smg (need to take them mutants down in one shot if poss).

More to follow
Cheers all

Cheers. Can't claim the idea only the work.

Lost Barnes to the mutant scrum hiding in the camp wasted most of their chums and squeaked three salvage markers before turn limit closed the doors.

Try another one tomorrow with a few tweaks.

Keep safe cheers all

RickW : Cheers . So much free time when in lockdown.

CookAndrewB :
Really couldn't think of what to do with them, funny in between type models didn't really sit well anywhere till I had a brainwave rusted them down and turned em into scatter terrain! Find a use for everything!

Aliensurfer :
Ruleset is one I'm working on, lot more time to fiddle with it at the moment, post apocalyptic solo skirmish/exploration type affair.

Just stripping down all the ideas to something simple and sturdy.
Way to go yet but nothing comes from no work.

Cheers all

Good morning.

Quick update
New recruit and gribblies

Two new 'highly detailed scale model representations of futuristic vehicles' OR more 'apocalyptic toy cars' according to my dear wife  :)

And finally Whistler head or Jason Vorhees recreational skull ski mask?

Cheers for now

I like what you're doing here, very much so. Great cohesive painting and well thought out scenics.

Personally I prefer the bare bearded head.

May I ask where the minis you've shown so far are from? I don't recogonise any except the copllestone sculptcs in the test game.

The latest addition, the female operator, is fantastic.

Keem them coming.

Thanks guys encouragement goes a long way .

Hubbabubba: you're right test team are all copplestone range. The zombies are 'the infected' from pig iron productions.

The other operatives are made from anvil industries 'regiments infantry' range. Too many choices to post (check out their website) all resin parts and full kits plus shed loads of optional extra goodies. Just like to say that their products are some of the best I've used and I don't think I've ever waited longer than 48 hours from ordering to arrival. Great company ethic.

The other monsters are from 'deep madness'. Not a game I've played but was able to pick up a bunch of the miniatures from an ebay seller.
Really scratch my lovecraft itch.

Hope this helps
Cheers for now :)

Hello all

Managed two more play tests before the brain started to over load with corrections, rewrites and new ideas.

Behind the mining camp our heroes (now wearing their anvil industries personas) move into the storage yard looking for any portable items.

Mutants start spawning and game one turned into a bloodbath, three dead and 2 salvage markers stowed.

Second game much quieter on the spawning rolls, 1 injured and 4 salvage markers lifted.

Thoughts:
1) exploding 12's on attack and wounding rolls are not needed, letting off a few rounds from a pistol can feel like an artillery barrage with a few lucky rolls.
2) Armour saves needing looking at they are all or nothing especially with the above, rolling seven dice consecutively or all together is too much for a solo game.
3) should salvage markers be auto pickup seeing as some characters will only get one action on a number of turns.
4) introduce some form of random spawning perhaps within the activation roll. Maximum actions equals more monsters?
5) 1 free melee attack if model is moved into base2base contact? Some models just stood there holding hands as they had run out of actions.

So plenty to think on and do...couple of shots from the action.

Cheers all

Title: Re: First..spend no money (Sector 12 playtesting)
Post by: Chimpfoot on April 20, 2020, 08:33:35 PM
Squeaked in another Sector12 playtest.

With the few tweaks play was far more fluid, still when you roll no armour when visiting the quartermaster on your way in then you're gonna struggle. Hand2hand is unforgiving in t-shirts but shouldn't be?

Heavy hitters took the brunt of the mutants and paid for it, but Hitch proved his worth as the lowly Greenwing, sweeping up the salvage markers and was rewarded with a smg for his trouble. Only he made it off the board alive, New after mission recovery rolls brought the rest of the crew back at the cost of a medical kit but good rolls yielded 2 bullet proof vests. So more firepower, a few advancement rolls and the up armour should stiffen the team for the next mission.
Gonna stick with them through playtesting (if they survive) so they will need a name.
Ladies and gentlemen...the Muleskinners.
Onward to adventure!

Few shots for on the game
Cheers all

More tweaks and more play tests. So bit of a longer one.

Two very different games again. One to warm up then one serious game.
First game yielded 2 salvage markers from the first search then three more before the team escaped. Spiders arrived in the compound in
nice manageable chunks and steady progress was made.

2nd game very different. Much harder. Got stuck on the wrong side of the fence for eight turns due to some truly dire salvage roles and two random spawnings both within 3 inches. Every marker was rolled as 1 or 2 spiders, no salvage and the spiders forever ceasing the initiative.

When the Muleskinners finally made it to the compound they'd lost Whistler apparently a chain link fence is not an adequate spit guard when facing inter dimensional spiders.
The last two markers yielded two more spiders and the first salvage of the game horrah!

After everything they went through they simply had to SEARCH in a effort to gain something from the mission.
Guess what...three more spiders but two more salvage markers.
The extra smg and some grace saving wounding rolls cleared the board apart from one spider which they managed to outrun...I mean retreat from.

Downtime saw Whistler sitting out the next mission, rolling 'i think it's busted' on the survival table and the team having no med kit to treat her with. Scored a bit of ammo and some snares so we won't be going hungry next time.
A few improvement rolls all round and that's a wrap.
So
1)don't roll a 1 on random spawning they literally drop out of the tree onto your head
2)bullet proof vests rock. Really helped Barnes in his three turn death match in the middle of the table
3) need to make decisions about spawning
4) shooting needs tweaking again. Might be too deadly will have to have a think

Apart from that good show all round getting used to my own rules game moves quickly but it's not a stroll in the park
Lots to think about for next time
Leave you with some eye candy

Cheers all

Another day and finally another playtest.
Spent the last few days writing and refining. New set up rules, toned down the shooting, New armour rules etc so nice to actually play the damn thing :)

Used a scenario I originally wrote for frostgrave it ported over nicely with just changes to the stats.

Village of the Damned...tentacles.

So leaving Whistler to recover our three remaining heroes push on into the compound looking for shopping opportunities.
As they break through the trees they find no science facility in evidence only an old crumbling village deserted and covered in a heavy unusual scent. Sector 12 is full of such isolated pockets of reality settling back into this world after the apocalypse. It's seems stable enough and they move in to check it out.

Four salvage markers generated in set up so hopefully it would be enough. Searching is now dangerous as it can attract attention. Barnes revealed the first as salvage and was about to move in when a huge tentacle burst from the ground. Yeearrgh!

Things went okay for three turns or so, managed to avoid hand to hand with the now three tentacles, shooting them pinned them in place keeping them active and so unable to spontaneously relocate.

Things didn't stay that way...Richard's smg picked up a flutter and jammed twice, Barnes grabbed two salvage markers and wasted another tentacle while Hitch went toe to toe with one that relocated right in front of him. Barnes blasted it in two with a broad side from his shotgun and Richards decided a search was in order. Wrong.  Rolling max actions equals random spawning and suddenly there were four more tentacles to deal with.
One then relocated right in the middle of their group, everyone took damage, two jams, a round of combat and Hitch was down. Enough was enough Barnes and Richards, both their weapons still jammed beat a fighting retreat off the table and ended the game with the tentacles owning the table.

Rules are holding up well, fluid and challenging, didn't see anything this time that needed changing so roll on the next play test.

Leave you with some shots from the game

Cheers all
