Title: Oathmark Armies (updated 13 June 2020)
Post by: killshot on April 02, 2020, 04:40:09 PM
Started in the Oathmark Goblin Wolf Riders I ordered a while ago.  First up are the three characters, two “heroes” and a shaman.  I’m working through the boxes set now and it’s probably my favorite so far!

Looking good. The colour scheme is more like what we would expect from a real wolf.  Nice.

Best not to ask how they got to be so well fed... (or where the captives went).

Nice painting  :-*
I think the wolves have been crossed with Pit Bulls :)

Thanks everyone!  They are beefy wolves but I figured they have been bred to be larger so they can carry man-sized goblins into battle.

Final 10 Wolf Riders from the box.  I really like this kits and saved the left over heads and weapons for when I work on more Goblin infantry.

Looking good.  I see you didn't go for the wolf tails for the helmets.  I found these hard to attach.  Did you have the same problem?
Just how big is the wolf at the back?   He looks to be about 50% bigger.  He might make a decent Carcharoth for the Silmarillion.
I still cant find a wolf hound big enough for Huan.

Post by: killshot on April 09, 2020, 10:38:07 PM
I didn’t even try to attach the wolf tails.  I have plans for them in a completely different genre but I’ll keep that in mind about the difficulty in attaching them.

The wolf is pretty massive, I put the model on a 50mm round base.  The rock makes it larger but the wolf itself is definitely larger than those in the box.

We had a pretty serious storm come through on Easter Sunday and I’ve been without power since then.  I was able to complete these Reaper Ogres for Oathmark.

I do like these. Especially the Goblin warg cavalry - I think you have convinced me to get some. They do look well fed and or muscular. The rock on your commanders base was a good addition. As for the ogres, well it is always good to see ogres like what you did with the far right Reaper mini.

Thank you, I really do like the wolves and will probably get another box once I see the Oathmark rules!

The goblin commander was a special resin miniature release from Northstar and had the rock sculpted for the miniature.  I wish I could take credit!

Elves led by the mage Tyrael Adrya protect their waystone.  The mage is from Reaper Miniatures and came as a freebie when I ordered the ogres and the waystone is an old GW metal blister.  I need a couple more for Oathmark.

Very nice.  The red and gold go well together.  Its funny how often elves are painted wearing blue or white, but these red elves certainly look the part.

I agree, my first introduction to elves were High Elves back in 4th edition Warhammer and that definitely shaped my idea of the Elven color schemes for a long time.

Completed a pack of Elven Characters, no names as of yet.

A box of Human warriors with metal character models:

First are the Wolftail Warriors led by Derfel Cadarn. One of my favorite literary characters of all time.  I know the shields are off and he had a different banner but I plan on my dwarfs to have a mostly black and white color scheme. My planned background for my Oathmark kingdoms is that the elves and dwarves are the main armies with goblins and humans acting mainly as mercenaries - very similar to the late Roman armies.

I am not 100% sold on the paint scheme and actually painted the models twice but decided to stick with this for the time being.  The majority of the heads are from Fireforge and the wolf tails are actually from the goblin wolf rider box.

Another unit of men inspired by the Warlord Trilogy is a group of Human Spearmen lead by Owain.  The heads are mostly from the Frostgrave barbarians.

Thanks everyone!  I wasn’t sure about the blue figures and they seem to be a hit.  Guess I’ll definitely stick with that color scheme.

Now, just need to get my hands on the Oathmark rules.  My package is in postal limbo.

Elf Light Infantry Archers. I had originally planned to do these in a complementary color scheme to my other elves but decided on green.

I hope I’m not intruding on your thread, but I’ve added to the Oathmark army I bought of you a while ago. So it is mostly your painting and it will be used for Oathmark.
I’ve added another set of human infantry to make more bow and spear, plus Fireforge knights.
A mate of mine copied your style of painting and I tried to copy the basing technique.
Not as good, but not far off.
It’s now quite a large army!

I’d say go for it!  These plastic kits are getting better with every new release.

More Elves:  the armored Spearmen are from the elf infantry box and they have heads and shields from the light infantry box.  I ordered some of the new Elven banners from Flags of War to finish the units.  I’m waiting to finish the shields once I have the banners in hand too.

This is all amazing.

If I understand the game correctly, a unit box comes with 30 models and a unit has 5 models in the front, so you can do three units of 5x2 out of one box? If so, it looks like all of this is only one box of each unit type? That's a good gaming value.

How long does it take you to paint 30 models? Man, these look great...
