Whilst waiting for (the speedy) delivery of the Clash Of Spears Kickstarter impatience still got the better of me and so I grabbed some sprues off eBay and decided to get a head start....I will add to this thread as I complete models.....here are the first....Numidian close order infantry
-
Beautiful job there 👏🏻👏🏻
Pretty much sets the standard for all Numidians that follow I’d say.
Top stuff.
-
Splendid 8)
-
Wow, really impressive unit there.
-
Gorgeous!!! :-*

:-* :-* :-*

Thanks for sight of these, quite inspirational. I have several boxes of Numidian infantry, one of cavalry and the elephants. Can I ask one question about the size. They seem to be quite large and in fairly dynamic poses. Can you tell me approximately the width of base you would need for 4 figures to fit comfortably in .I normally base 5 figures on a 12cm wide base but suspect 5 figures in these dynamic poses may not fit very well.
Thanks,
simon

Stunning painting on those Numidians. :-* :-*
-
OMG... they look amazing !!!
You are still waiting for our shipment ? Are you in Europe ? The last 20 or so pledges got trapped in the UK lockdown.. if so, sorry for that...
This whole thing threw a wrench on our launch... we were hoping to be out in retail by now...
I love the colors that you chose for the tunics and the shields look really amazing...
Eager to see what comes next !!
cheers

Those figures look awesome!

Stunning work! They look great!

Those are fantastic! They put mine to shame.
-
Awesome figures!
How did you do the tunic edging?
-
Beautiful painting! :-*
-
Thank you all very much for the kind words....really made the day shine
......I normally base 5 figures on a 12cm wide base but suspect 5 figures in these dynamic poses may not fit very well....
Mine are based on 25mm discs...5 figures base to base come to 12.5cm so in my opinion without the circular bases would fit comfortably on a 12cm base
How did you do the tunic edging?
Winsor & Newton Series 7 size 0 :).....and gritted teeth lol
......You are still waiting for our shipment ? .....Eager to see what comes next !!
cheers

I think you need to go all the way and do a Numidian force...
-
Thanks guys
I think you need to go all the way and do a Numidian force...
Those two elephants I’m working on will come in handy then ;)
-
Fantastic brushwork! Makes me think about a Carthaginian- Republican Roman thingie for Infamy, Imfamy.

Burning Coal
Mate they are simply wonderfull, well done .. wish they were mine.
Cheers

Very nice brushwork

The first group of figures from what will become my war band of Gauls

Great painting. :-* :-* Love the shields. Freehand or adapted transfers?

Love the shields. Freehand or adapted transfers?
Thanks Hu Rhu....only freehand this time was on the scabbards ;).....shield decals by Little Big Man Studios
-
Impressive! Excellent flesh tones, shading, lively postures and, of course, those shields...
-
Those scabbards are fantastic! Looking forward to seeing some more Gauls.
-
Very nice indeed!
-
I’ve got these naked guys on my work bench, but your skin tone is much better than mine.
Well to be fair your whole paint job is much better than mine!
Lovely stuff.
I’ve opted to hand paint my shields, not quite as complex as the transfers though!
But I’ve also added tattoos and put the lime in the hair, making it go a bit white.
Keep up the awesome work.
-
They look great.

very very nice. I love. again and again...

Discovered this thread a bit late - absolutely fantastic! :-*
-
Fantastic work!
-
:-* Great work!

Thankyou guys for all the kind words...greatly appreciated....some armoured Gauls are now underway
-
Burning Coal
Mate well done ..but please stop it ... these figures are too good and mere mortals can never attain this level..!!!
Cheers
-
Been dabbing away at these on and off for a while...had to go back to black at one point then start again on a few of them...finally got to where they are how I’d imagined them, along the way had a great deal of enjoyment painting them. The standard was customised after I read an article about the fairly recent discovery of some decapitated heads that had been preserved by the Gauls. Figures by Victrix and shield transfers by LBMS
-
Absolutely gorgeous. :-* :-* :-*
-
Incredible work! :-* :-* :-*
-
Absolutely stunning :-* :-*
Love the way you painted the cloth, both trousers and cloak - a real blue-print for painting Gauls!
-
Outstanding.
-
Gorgeous work!
-
Those look terrific. Hopefully they are observing adequate social distancing....
-
Spectacular! I particularly like the color palette you have chosen for these. :-*
-
Very nice work :-*
A group of us here in Montreal are working our way towards warbands for CoS with Gauls, Macedonians, Greeks and Romans on the various painting desks.
-
BC
They are quite superb :o :o :o, well done.!!
Cheers
-
Thankyou guys for all the kind words - much appreciated
.....Hopefully they are observing adequate social distancing....
lol ....I tried telling them but they just weren’t having it ! Perhaps the Romans will have better luck
...I particularly like the color palette you have chosen for these.
Thankyou...the palette I was imagining was my reason for going back to black on a few of them after they came out looking a bit too exotic from my first attempt - cheers
-
Joining back in again at last. :)
Working in batches and switching between subjects along the way means I’ve currently got quite a few figures heading towards completion. My Clash of Spears Kickstarter boxes now have very few models left on the sprues ;)
The latest to be added to my small but steadily growing band of Ancients are these Libyan skirmishers that I had great fun painting.
-
It's beautiful! :-*
Can you share how you did the dark skin?

Thanks Tonhel....black primer then base colour - Foundry African Flesh 126C .....after that glazes of Foundry North African Flesh 124 A,B & C ;)
-
These are fantastic! Such amazing colours - metals, skin tones, and the Celtic fabrics.
Really interesting to see the collection develop. I'm looking forward to some armoured veterans joining. I've got a box of Carthaginians sitting unassembled in the loft, so you might be the inspiration I need to move them to the top of the painting pile.
-
Really vivid colours...not just the skin tones, but tunics and the shields :-*
-
those figures are awesome. very nice brushwork too! and great color palette for them.
-
Congrats mate, great job on these, and I say that as a true Carthaginian ( I live in Carthago Nova, Spain).
Saludos!
-
Stunning.
-
Wow. Awesome stuff. Can I ask about the initial Numidians? How do you do their helmets? The shine and subtle brightness transition is fantastic.
-
Thanks for the kind words guys - coming at a time with not much to cheer about they brightened my week
....I'm looking forward to some armoured veterans joining....
Me too lol ....seriously though they’re not that far off from showing up ;)
Congrats mate, great job on these, and I say that as a true Carthaginian ( I live in Carthago Nova, Spain).
Saludos!
Saludos Chema - Carthago Nova is on my list of places I would like to visit ;)
....Can I ask about the initial Numidians? How do you do their helmets? The shine and subtle brightness transition is fantastic.
A simple recipe....black primer (I use Stynylrez or Mig Ammo One Shot)....Vallejo Metal Color Gold as a base for bronze or Vallejo Metal Color Burnt Iron as a base for iron or steel.....then various glazes of Vallejo Game Color Inks to create the patina on the metal....pick out highlights with original Metal Color with a little Metal Chrome added to it....almost takes longer to write it down than do it ;)
-
Thanks mate. I'll be trying the recipe on my next helmet :)
-
Best wishes for the New Year to everyone on here who continue to inspire, educate and entertain me.
These Iberian warriors for my Carthaginian forces bring me to an all time first of 100 figures painted in one year...am already looking forward to adding to them
-
Lovely 8)

They look great! :-* 8) :-*
-
It's beautiful :-* You are such a good painter!
-
Stunning work!
-
Amazing painting, fantastic.
-
Excellent work there.
-
Really nice brushwork and colour combinations on the tunics 👍
I have put a few together for a friend and thought that some of the definition on the infantry figures is not as good as that on the cavalry figures.
-
Hello,
Superb paintjob on these Victrix miniatures !!!

-
Thankyou guys for the kind words...at a time of great uncertainty they mean a lot
....to keep in with the forum rules I reduced the photo file sizes and as a result the photos aren’t as sharp as I would have liked but I’m glad it’s still possible to discern what’s going on. I really enjoyed working on these Victrix figures which were my favourite to date. I’ll make some more at a later date but for now continue to work my way through the Clash Of Spears starter boxes...so...Hannibal’s veterans are next up in the paint queue
-
That's real beautiful work! :-*
Christopher
-
Stunning brushwork. And enviably good basing as well!
